It will be done, my Lord.
Not sure if this was shared, but for the old timers on here, or those of us who never got to experience it- There's a VR recreation of Adventure thru inner Space.
It's a small download, and works on a computer without VR as well. Worth a ride through.
Adventure Thru Inner Space
I just took back my Oculus Rift too

Just out of curiosity... why did you return it? I could never part with mine!
I liked it a lot but there were a few reasons. I kept getting nausea (games like Lucky's Tale and Aircar wrecked havoc on my stomach. Other games I could play a good 20 minutes before my eyes got tired). My gaming PC is starting to crap out (I built it when the I7 3770k processor was still new. The newest thing I have on it now is GTX 970's in SLI but they aren't performing as well as they should. Probably an issue with the PSU or something). And lastly, I needed the cash as my phone so happened to die to on me just after I got the Oculus.
Did you ever get sick from it? I had a hard time parting with it too tbh. The T-rex sample video was the freakiest thing i've ever experienced.
Ok, that was pretty freaking cool. Just did a ride-thru w/ my Oculus Rift and felt like I was there.
Ah, yeah I hear ya. I had to invest a decent chunk of $$$ just to get my PC up to spec for it -- just the tiniest bit of lag can cause really bad motion sickness (among many other reasons). Upgraded to a 1070 last year just so I could get a Rift. Thankfully I did it then, because now those suckers are going for way more $$$ due to bit coin mining!!
I definitely get nausea from some of it and can't play for extended periods of time. Like I've had Lone Echo for months now and as much as I want to get into it, the movement system in that just totally gets me every time within a few minutes. It's really hit or miss, but I still am dazzled by the tech so much I deal with it haha -- and that's coming from someone who previously had a DK2. The addition of the touch controllers was such a leap forward, it blows my mind!
Did you ever ride the real thing?
No! I was a WDW'er up until I moved out here in 2000. The closest I got was 'If You Had Wings' at WDW I've watched the older animated recreation for years, looked at countless photos, watched the very little grainy video that exists... Never got a chance to see the real thing though. Based on all the various materials I've seen over the years though, the VR recreation seems pretty accurate although I'll obviously never really know for sure.
I've ridden it too. It was a fun ride but never one of our must dos. We pretty much rode it because it was free and needed a place to rest. The ride would have to be radically different today to hold the interest of the Millennials. People would probably wreck the effects with the lights from their phones. The VR recreation is very accurate. In fact there are details in it that I'd completely forgotten like the moments of pitch blackness after entering the Mighty Microscope. Sorry you never had the chance to experience it. I was able to do both ATIS and If You Had Wings. Lucky me!
Since Inner Space opened before Mansion, I rode the Monsanto adventure many, many times before I finally got to experience Haunted Mansion. My first thought when the Ghost Host started talking was, "Hey, it's the Inner Space guy!" Paul Frees was certainly Mr. Omnimover. As a dark omnimover with chintzy effects and Paul Frees narration, it was too similar to The Haunted Mansion to be kept in operation.

The narrative was easy to follow, but only if the sound system was working well and the people in front and in back of you weren't screaming in mock terror through the whole thing. Really well-paced. I realize, though, that I had a fantastic experience on it as a kid (It just *worked* for me and opened my eyes to science just the way it was intended to--I was the perfect audience) and so as I got older I remained very fond of it, even though the effects seemed less and less convincing as I aged.I didn't think it was a very good ride overall, and the narrative was hard to follow. I bet the average person didn't understand what was supposed to be happening. I commend Disney for trying to elevate the theme park experience with educational scientific content, but sadly that isn't something most people care about when they to to Disneyland.
Gosh, you would think Mr. Haunted Mansion would know that.Since Inner Space opened before Mansion, I rode the Monsanto adventure many, many times before I finally got to experience Haunted Mansion. Inner Space was wonderful. I loved everything about it, and never quite understood why so many guests in later years felt compelled to scream, spit, damage the props and generally act like idiots once on-board. Guests behaving badly certainly isn't a new phenomenon.
