The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

Spring Break this year is very busy. I went on Saturday 3/24 and today and both were busy. Both during blackouts. The crowds felt way more tourist heavy. Here’s an interesting observation I also made- I feel that their were a lot less good looking people during blackouts. Are most of the good looking people at DLR on any given day LA/ OC locals?

I know a few people that after moving to So Cal became depressed over seeing so many good looking people. One's exact comment was " I used to think I was hot until I moved here."

Efteling is still #1 on my want-to-visit park list, but ever since I visited their website all the banner ads on these forums keep showing me Efteling's scary mascot.

So I was working a large political event yesterday, and out of the Blue Tony Baxter came up to me. I happen to know Tony from many events we both attended over the years. (I have a great Knott's Haunt story I am not willing to make public). So after signing the petition being circulated, we talked a bit about Anaheim, and ended up on ARTIC, the over built Train Station we have, He said with the materials they used, in 10 to 20 years, it is going to look like brown stuff you find on San Francisco Streets and LA Subways left by humans.....

So there is a miscellaneous weird thing of the week... Off to the Boysenberry Festival this morning... YUM!

Two opinions:

1. Soarin' is one of the most overrated attractions in the world IMO. Wait in line for hours only to be seated in front of a giant screen to be shown clips of Planet Earth. I've never understood the fascination for this ride, I've ridden it twice and never wanted to wait in line for it ever again, especially for over an hour.

2. Grizzly Run needs some AA. It has beautiful scenery but it is so lifeless, even a couple bears goofing around some of the lift areas would add some nice life to the ride. Dig up some of the Nature's Wonderland bears or something.

What I get from Soarin' is this: Pure exhilaration (on the original). The illusion completely works for me. I feel like I'm flying. Those moments when the glider tilts forward in sync with the sudden feeling of acceleration when you get closer to the mountain peak or water-- I get goosebumps. The combo of image, music and motion makes me tear up. Every time. I freaking love the original Soarin'. The queue, however is about as fun as ToT's Boiler Room, which is the only thing that prevented me from riding it more often. My whole family feels the same way about the original Soarin'. It was a must-do. The new one, not so much.

I would love to see Grizzly rethemed with Humphrey Bear and crew and Ranger Woodlore, with a jazzy instrumental of "Puttin' Papers in the Bag" playing from the moment you leave the top of the lift. Try listening to the House of Mouse remix of "Puttin' Papers in the Bag (The Humphrey Hop)" while watching a Youtube video of Grizzly River Run. It works incredibly well! :D It works so well, it's never gonna happen! :D It will probably end up being rethemed to a yet-to-be-announced live action remake of Brother Bear. There will probably be one AA--- and it will be Phil Collins.

Who's seen video of the new projection show in Tokyo Disneyland's World Bazaar? I'm loving it. It's a short show, and here's a vid of it captured from three different angles, so there's repetition that accounts for the vid's length.

What I love about it is that it's more atmospheric than spectacular, and well-scaled to it's venue. While it uses popular Disney films of course, it uses the wonderfully scenic sequences that supported the emotional surges of those films instead of just shoving characters at you to promote merchandise sales. It's not a Disney infomercial, it's a Disney hug. And yeah, I assume it's designed to make quests feel all warm and fuzzy about their Disney memories while they are just outside the shops that are eagerly awaiting those nostalgia-loosened wallets, but as ads designed as shows go, it's less ... blunt force trauma.

I could see something like this come to DLR's Main Street. They already have the MS projectors installed. But it's the exclusive use of the "atmospheric" material that I appreciate in this case, like the view that Aladdin and Jasmine had from the flying carpet instead of a view of Aladdin and Jasmine on the magic carpet.

This is a more subtle IP inclusion method that could work your emotional buying urges without constant character burn-out.

Sounds like a great way to start the day. Do I dare ask WHY it was wet?
After talking to the driver, it seems I have a 50/50 chance split between a lady carrying flowers and... the other possibility...

I ended up up taking another bus home, taking a shower, changing my clothes and taking my third bus of the day back to work. I've got a very understanding boss.

Why buy a car?

In California, you have a few options...

Steal one under $950 and basically nothing will happen to you if you get caught.

https://www.ocregister.com/2017/12/06/why-stealing-a-car-might-now-be-a-misdemeanor-in-california/

Use the new FAIR app and lease month to month, no time limit.

Or if you have bad credit, buy a car on a payment plan, and a device is attached to the car are will not start/run if you miss your payment.

I am looking forward to going to St. Jude soon for a medical clinical assessment to see if I have recovered enough from my coma to drive again. (The parking lot drives seem to have gone well.) But since the test ($700) is DMV approved, I can get a green light to start the process to drive again.... And I have the car in the driveway...

But having the Federal Access program, riding the bus/train/taxi/shuttle has been cheap, and still plan to use it after I start driving again. And since I bring my own seat, no worries about sitting in urine. But I will keep it in mind when I take my walker on the bus....
