DVC addition time!
Ok Rangers!
The original idea was to give each of you one area to work on, and I would pull it all together for the final write up and presentation.

But in many ways, I also like how we work with each other...so I am assigning two of you to two related tasks.

POOL AND LOBBY...Stitchcastle and Figmntal

I like the ideas you both have, so I am letting you both tackle these together...this also can include the exterior look of the building, the outside courtyards (great place for that fountain!) and the overall LOOK to the DVC complex.

I would like if we went "Old Rome" here...the medieval style of collumns and gold leafing, and statuary and painted frescos (think Vatican for the style... but without all the religious icons), but if you decide a different direction...that's ok too.

RESTAURANT and RECREATION...Mewhunter and Kermit

I think you both would work great at designing these areas. They should be separate entities...but if you want, you should be able to do crossover with food in the recreation.
One idea I had to include for the restaurant OR recreation(and you don't have to use this!) would be a wine tasting bar with Italian wines...but it's just an idea that I think fits in nice with the vactaion clubbers.

Now...I am iffy about the Gladiator dinner show. BUT if you can sell it as something that still retains the family friendly spirit of Disney then I might be swayed!
I DO like the Galdiator concept (chariot races, heroic monster fighting) but not the man vs man...or vs lion violent aspects of it.
So if you guys want to propose that as the recreation feature...that's cool...but give me alternative ideas as well.

Me? I'll work on the villa layouts. Not terriby exciting...but I have stayed in a couple DVC villas, so I think I can have some fun with it.

Is anyone working on the guest rooms themselves?

Good ideas stitchcastle! I didn't realise that the MiraCosta looked that, well, Roman-y. But we've gone with it now. You're starting to sway me against the idea of a Gladiator dinner show, it reminds me of Medieval Times or Pirates Dinner Adventure. However what about Chariot Racing?? And I think Roman's liked to visit the theatre as well, how about incorporating that.

Does anyone like the sound of Disney's DolceVita Resort? Otherwise we should keep it simple and go for Disney's Roman Resort.

It looks like the Imagineering Rangers have already been assigned tasks. We should do the same for the Brainstormers. Should we create separate topics for each team at this stage?

We need a name sounding as good as Hotel MiraCosta.

I think DVC,and our Deluxe should share the same theme, but with different features, like WL,AKL,and BW. I'm open to any ideas any of you have, but if you don't mind, post them here so the whole team has the opportunity to revise.

If,at the end of the week, you could each poser your final part,we can compile it into one post.

Got it. One last question, what is the whole theme of the resort?

Alright, here's what I have right now for the DVC pool. I kinda like the idea of the Roman bath, but it needs other aspects, like the slide, waterfalls, lighting, etc. Theme will definitely be Neptune (god of water) somehow involving tridents.

I want to hear from the person who's doing the main hotel pool, it's possible we have the same ideas.

I think DVC should represent the baths more than ours...

I,too was thinking Neptune. I'm looking at images right now. Can we talk tomorrow about basic ideas? We can both post them here and make sure they are different.

Stitchcastle...your illustrations for the exterior are freakin' GORGEOUS!

Very nicely done! :sohappy: and exactly the way I envisioned it!

Just a thought...Even though we are doing Old Rome...I think there's room for some Ancient Rome in there too! (maybe with spa or pool or restaurant designs?)

Kermit...I am doing layouts of resort villa rooms and where they are in the resort (the resort DVC map)
BUT...if you want to design some room elements...please feel free to throw some ideas and designs in here!

The Villas are usually two bedroom suites... with whirlpool tub and in room laundry facilities and kitchen. A few have more bedrooms as well.

Keep in mind that there is a lesser known goddess, Salacia, who is the goddess of water. You could use her.

 You can use Neptune. God, I'm such an idiot. I'll just use Neptune's son, TRITON! :hammer:

Wow....

Actually, Triton is the same in both Roman and Greek mythology. Might be misleading...

So I can use Fontus (wells and springs, similar to roman baths? or Volturnus (actual god of water (has a river named after him), while Neptune is god of the sea.)

We should stay true to the current DVC set up and have a mix of Studios, One Bedrooms, Two Bedrooms and Three Bedroom/2-story Grand Villas.

In terms of overall layout in terms of the lake, did you have any ideas? Since the project calls for 2 lobbys and all of the other DVC properties share lobbies, I was thinking there should be a central hub with the resort to the south and the villas to the north along the lake? That would give each section lake views and preferred views (of MK).

Do we want a parking lot on the north and south ends? That way the views to the West are clear w/o lots?

Thanks Tazer! Not being a DVC member myself, I wasn't aware there were so many choices! Wow! I always wondered what those little white picket fenced cottages were behind the Boardwalk...I bet those are the 2 story Grands!

I do like the idea of two lobbies that maybe would share a central courtyard or hub. With the hotel guest rooms on one end, and the villas on the other end.
I also like the idea of the western view being clear, maybe featuring some Roman architecture like the arch of constantine, or something grand and eloquent to look at.

But here is my question...Bay Lake??? Is there honestly enough space there to build something this elaborate?
I love the idea of connecting by monorail...but is it feasible?
I always understood there to be no more room for another sprawling resort in the MK area.

Yeah, without looking, I'm not sure what the normal mix is between the rooms, but I'm sure it's out there somewhere. I've only stayed in a Grand Villa at OKW and there they're on the 2nd/3rd floors.

I like the idea of a central courtyard with some great architecture.

Looking at the map again, I think we might JUST be okay. It looks like the GF would just barely fit in that spot. What does everyone else think?

Looking at the map again...I think it might just work too...IF there are multiple stories in almost all buildings...which of course would fit in wonderfully with the design esthetic.

Collumns that rise two to four stories always look perfectly Roman in scale.

Question is...would the monorail really look ok with the theme, and not be horribly out of place and time? Would a new waterway built into the lake be a better fit?

I really don't know the answer to this one..I can totally see the monorail track near the hotel looking like the archways and aquaduct bridges you see in Rome...but the train itself would look weird.

For the feature I am planning to do a series of Aqueducts that will travel throughout the facility. I plan to have them empty into the pool, and if we do have a monorail station, they would also run along side the monorail at one point.

Is anyone doing a map of the whole resort in relation to the rest of the World. Because I will do that. I think a Monorail station would be a necessity otherwise it would be quite cut off.

Kermit- Disney's Dolce Vita (DolceVita?) Resort, sounds a lot like Hotel MiraCosta.

What is the actual theme of the deluxe hotel (what style of Roman architecture) so I know what to do for the lobby.
