Rome it is. I'll talk to Chrononymous, and we will assign later. I ask that you all begin to brainstorm for each team's respective parts of the project.

hmm a lot of people are leaving, wonder why?

I'm going to guess Time Management, Frustration, and Personal Issues.

Some probably didn't realize the time commitment involved, which has been even more than I thought, but this is my slow time of year, so I'm good. Some are probably frustrated by the mechanics of the game, the reliance on others in the team setting, which I'll admit is frustrating for me, but I like a challenge. Some probably have stuff that came up personally.

When the rules are murky, and the prize is bragging rights on a message board, I think the motivation for doing all of this work has to be that it is fun. The second it is no longer fun, someone will just drop out.

I will also say, one of the fun things for me is getting feedback on your work. Critical feedback. Too often on this forum people post ideas that get either no feedback or purely positive feedback. This contest promises constructive criticism for the work done. That being said, I am really disapointed in the lack of feedback we've been getting from the judges. Some judges have been great, others has spoken barely a word in terms of feedback. If you pour all this hard work into a project and then you get hardly any feedback and someone, seemingly randomly, is voted out, I could see where the motivation to stay would dwindle.

Just my thoughts on the subject, now let's build a Roman Hotel.

Thank you for this feedback. WE as the judges will try to give more feedback, BOTH positive and negative. Personally, i try not to be TOO hard on people for (1) im not a real imagineer so it might not see important, and (2) i feel that if i do give all my opinions you wouldnt want to hear it ALL.. But i personally will try to post more negative feedback as to what you can do better. Thanks again.

On another note, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE no outside interference... THank you! :)

ALLRIGHTY! So we chose ROME as the theme for this grand new luxury DVC Resort.

Before I get the assignments squared away for my Chip N Dale team, I think we need a few more brainstorming posts with everyone from both teams

Here are the two main obstacles that we still have to hurdle:

1. Where the heck are we putting this awesome new complex?

2. How are we distinguishing each portion of the resort?
(what part of the Roman theme goes with the main hotel, and what will go with the DVC addition?)

Also...who gets to design the Spa? :D (would that be the "feature" of the hotel...or would it be part of the "recreation" of the DVC?)

Afterall...you can't do Rome without a Roman Bath!

For location...I know there is a heck of a lot of room left near DAK.
I don't know if there is still any space near Blizzard Beach...but that might not be a bad location either.

I am trying to locate a good map of the whole area.

I like the Blizzard Beach area as well...it gives the resort one close attraction, and gives us the most room, I think.

I agree that the theme should not be too different.

My idea is to do the whole resort as Classical Rome...
but with the hotel portion being based on more ancient architecture (the colluseum, arch of Constantine,)
while the DVC addition would maybe be more medieval Rome (Pantheon dome, piazza Venizia, maybe the Trevi fountain)

The whole think connected by waterways.

There could be a gladiator dinner show serving Italian food (pizza, pasta, cheesecake, etc).

What do you think?
:D

I suggested this kind of thing when I first put forward the Roman idea. Personally I'd love something like this, it's almost like a Roman stunt show. Gladiator fighting (obviously the performers wouldn't actually get killed) and chariot racing in a large amphitheatre. Throw in a couple of lions- pure Disney! :D

But being realistic- that would never happen, just imagine the expense!

As for location could we not squeeze it in to the east of the Magic Kingdom, north of the Contemporary on Bay Lake where an Asian Resort was once planned. It would compliment the existing deluxe Magic Kingdom resorts and a Monorail spur could be included like in the original Asian Resort plan.

I envisaged a classical Ancient Rome hotel and the DVC bit could be themed to Tuscany villas (The Tuscan Villas at Disney's Roman Resort) but I guess these themes are quite different.

Also, concerning the name, are we going with Disney's Roman Resort or something else. Disney's Ancient Rome Resort? Disney's Grand Roman Resort?

Yeah...a Gladiator show would be interesting...but violence and food never did sit well with me (says the girl who worked at Medieval Times)

And would not really be in the Disney spirit.

and yet...I can't help think that a warrior fighting say...an AA hydra or some strange beast wouldn't be just the coolest thing ever.

I was wondering if we could do some sort of virtual gladiator thing?
Maybe a roman themed game room with cutting edge game technology putting YOU in the role of a gladiator.(via computer simulation of something?)

i dunno...just thinking(or typing) out loud

Disney's Grand Roman sounds kinda sweet...

or Disney's Classico Resort?

No, if we were to do it wouldn't be too violent. There's fighting in the Indiana Jones Stunt Show yet it's still family friendly. And chariot racing would be awesome! The idea of AA's as well is great however if this became reality it would be on par with Fantasmic if not better!

Thought i'd through another name out there: Disney's DolceVita Resort (the Sweet Life in Italian)

^^ Disney's Grand Roman works perfectly.

I have some thoughts stirring up on the hotel, especially the lobby.

For the dinner show, it wouldn't necessarily have to be violent. It could work more as a participation/comedy/gladiator show.
