Good to know Mater! Thanks for that!

I think I need to hear from our other team leader...but tonight I think I will probably put up a poll of the best of the different ideas so far, and have everyone vote on what they would like to work on most!

Here's my only concerns with a space theme....
How long before "futuristic" become "dated"?

I know it happened with Tomorrowland, and while it might not happen with a space themed resort...I just worry about that.

also...how do you make the real outdoors feel like you are on another planet?

sure...it IS cool if EVERYTHING is inside the buildings...but think about people who want to relax in the florida sunshine on their vacation...or maybe happen to be claustrophobic.

I am not dissing this as an idea...because it's got such awesome potential...just playing devil's advocate, and thinking about practicality!

and mewhunter...you are on the same wavelength as I am, i think! :)
I am really starting to love the 4 elements idea...thinking in terms of cool resort pools and amazing restaurants.

I know the Chip N Dales are doing the DVC portion of this project...btu I can see where the entire resort flows.

Yeah it's not practical, it would be horribly stuffy unless there are huge air conditioning systems. I'm guessing what Mater is saying is that we can't do Greek AND Roman :(

Yeah I think a poll should be put up. So what are we deciding between:

Marvel Resort
Japanese Resort
Australian Resort
Greek Resort
Roman Resort
Space Resort
Mythical Resort
European Resort
Four Elements Resort

I think that's everything that has been suggested so far. We should make a decision once everyone else logs on.

I think if we go with Greek we should make a rule to NOT use the Hercules movie as a model or reference. Only the "real" myths and the iconic images should be used.

Just my two cents.

Do we have locations that go with each? I'm thinking:

Marvel Resort- Hollywood Studios Area
Japanese Resort- EPCOT Area
Australian- Epcot?
Greek- Magic Kingdom? (I'd see this on the Lagoon or something)
Roman- Downtown Disney?
Space- Epcot
Mythical- Animal Kingdom
European- Epcot
Four Elements (this sounds like Four Seasons )- Animal Kingdom or Epcot

Just my two cents.

Also keep in mind the somewhat "graphic" nature of most myths.

But agreed, no Hercules for theming, but maybe a breakfast with the characters? That would actually be cool.

Also, if Greek or Mythical is selected..... Let's not make it too similar to the Lost Continent in Islands of Adventure. That might be a huge obstacle...

Well I think Asia is the least represented region of all the WDW resorts. So I'm down for the Japanese one, or even a Cambodia or China themed resort. Or something Indian, which I think has tons of potential.

I voted for Steampunk, that's a goldmine right there. We could incorporate design elements from the Nautilus and the Hyperion and give it all a hint of Jules Verne, something WDW has been missing.

The main hotel could be theme to a lovely Victorian Air Ship Port with various Air Ships docked around them. Meanwhile the DVC area could be themed to a Steampunk kind of Marina with some of the Villas being themed to steam powered house boats.

Where are you staying?

PS, if we do the Japan theme, here is the location I would like to use: click here.

I do really like the Steampunk idea...because it's not something they have done before (at least I don't think they have...but I never saw the Paris resorts)

It has amazing design potential...to be both beautiful and upscale as well as fun and unusual.

^ Don't worry there's definitely nothing like this in Paris! I like the Steampunk idea but it's not my favourite, but that's probably just due to the fact that I know hardly anything about it.

If Steampunk is decided, maybe give it a new name?

We could also incorporate the new Epic Mickey Game, which is Steampunk, into the hotel.

no, the epic mickey game sucks. I was hoping for a more formal aesthetic as opposed to the more post-apocalyptic feel of the art for that game.

for research i guess check out either Treasure Planet or the movie Steamboy. A lot of Hayao Miyazaki films also carry that art style. The main component of it all is a victorian design sense accented with a lot of industrial, science fiction elements.

Gotta say I'm not digging the Steam Punk feel, though I do feel there are some cool ideas that could be used. I think we need to remember that the resorts of places to relax, eat, and sleep, the theme parks are where the action is supposed to be.
