Gotta say I'm not digging the Steam Punk feel, though I do feel there are some cool ideas that could be used. I think we need to remember that the resorts of places to relax, eat, and sleep, the theme parks are where the action is supposed to be.
that is true. A steampunk theme would indeed work better in a theme park setting as opposed to a resort.

I guess my second favorite idea is Japan, just because I think asia is underrepresented in the resorts and hotels around WDW. I also kinda want to stay away from any more european themes just because it's been done everywhere.

imagine this as the main tower to the hotel: http://www.teachenglishinasia.net/files/u1/hiroshima-castle-japan.jpg

That is a very cool building and I'd like to see that much more than the Steakpunk idea. I agree with everything Fractal said, sure it's original but it's not really a relaxing theme, If that makes sense.

I wasn't aware that there were many other hotels based on Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome in Orlando. Is it too late to suggest ideas: Disney's Arabian Resort themed to somewhere in the middle east with great tall spires and round domes so that it has the look of something like a mosque.

Same here. Even though I voted for a Marvel Resort :lookaroun I think we would most be able to work with the Greece or Roman Resort.

Coming up with a solid theme for this is tough...because we have to be careful to do something original...that hasn't been planned by Disney before.

I discovered that Disney already had a lot of these ideas well into the design phase...the Asian as well as Greek were already dreamed up by them.

Does that mean a Japan resort is out? No...but it does make me want to go with something that doesn't already have illustrations for it.

I don't really like the Marvel hotel idea. The reasons are many, but mostly it doesn't translate to upscale luxury accomidations to me. How would this theme be doable? Would there be garish comic book colors and little x-men symbols in the carpet of the lobby?
There's just not a great unifying look to Marvel...it's somethng that would appeal to kids, certainly...and maybe work as a value resort. But I can't see it happening at Disney with Universal being so strongly associated with the characters already.

My thoughts on an Arabian themed hotel...is how much do we really know about the Arab world? There's quite a few things that make me want to stay away from this concept concerning sensitivity to the culture.

Or would we be making something more in the realm of a mythical Agrabah from Aladdin? and then...I worry because I was hoping we would stay away from movie and character tie ins.

My two favorite ideas here are the Roman and the Steampunk.

I do actually think that steampunk (and yes, we could call it something else!) would work in a upscale setting. I do think we could utilize the colors, brass workings and alternate Victorian vision to create something amazing and original, and really beautiful.

But I also get if it's a little TOO out there. Steam does seem to translate to dirt and grime (though it certainly doesn't have to.)

If you were to google "Steampunk" with...well, pretty much any other word after it...(cakes, costumes, home, furnishings) you would find tons of really compelling stuff.

but again...I don't want to choose a theme that doesn't excite people.

Which leads back to Roman...which I believe has astounding potential to be relaxing, upscale beautiful...with touches of whimsy in it as well.

I'm suprised only one South American resort was suggested....

A resort based on ancient South American cultures (Mayan, Incan, Toltec, etc.) would be our best bet so far, and it really hasn't been done before.

The main building can be a combination of all ancient South American cultures, maybe a large temple.

And it gives us an amazing pool opportunity: http://images.biip.no/user/profile/image/50499142026.jpg

um...there's already the Coronado Springs. Temple pool and all....

Coronado Springs is themed to the American Southwest...

I'm talking about the actual continent of South America (like with the Andes, jungles, and Amazon River), which doesn't even have to include Mexico, because it's already represented...

And if we can't use the temple pool, there's a million other ideas I have.

I think it would be too similar to Coranado Springs.

Chrony and WDW, you two should just talk and pick.

There are way too many people on our team, with way too many different opinions. Ultimately, I think one of you two will be facing elimination, as the team leader on he losing team automatically does. So I'm ok with you just making the choice here. We'll all live with it and work hard, or we won't and get eliminated for not being a team player.

Choose, so we can get to work.

Well, I have sent some PMs to WDWvacationer about my choice. Haven't heard back yet.

I would like to get started on this soon as well.

@Fractal514

You guys are one big unit for this project, so there will be no winning team or losing team. With that said, this is still an elimination project, so work hard!

to be fair the original Asian resort that they planned for WDW was Thai inspired.

I think something either Japanese, Arabian or Indian would work well.
