The Foodie "Canadian Themed" Musical of MillerPoppins

So here we are, home already. I don't remember ever being as bummed after a trip as I am with this one and I attibute that to it being so amazingly awesome. I believe this, along with the 2008 trip with my Mom, was at the top of the Disney trip list. I was so afraid that after months of planning, something was going to go wrong. Aside from one minor set back (more on that in a bit), the trip was perfect. So let's get started!

So to recap, this is my 9th trip to this World of ours and my boyfriend's very first. Tim has literally been all over the globe, seeing everything from the pyramids to rainforests to glaciers. When I heard that he had never been to WDW, I insisted that I would be the first to take him. And while he was very excited, he never wanted to see any footage, photos or anything Disney related except for the animated classics before we got there. It made it very difficult for me. However, it paid off greatly in the end. And as much I believe I have converted him, he's not completely on board with blogging on being on "Disney sites". With that being said, his photo will not be posted. You'll have to settle for photos of me and some awesome scenic ones he took.

So our trip started the night before as he scrambled to pack and I had been pretty much ready for a week. After he zipped up his case, we went to our local sushi joint for a quick and non messy dinner. After rolling out, we had minor food coma and crashed. Wake up call came quite early though at 3:30am and we headed out the door. To my knowledge at that point, we were set to go! I was so excited and could barely contain myself as we headed though security and stopped for a quick coffee before heading to our gate. As I was waiting in line, I was digging though my bag and could not find my phone...

To back track, two years ago on the night before the trip, my cell phone was stolen enroute to my parents house. I had to spend two frantic hours trying to cancel service and have a new phone sent to All Star Movies. It was an experience I did not want to repeat. However, here I was on my vacation and it would be the second Disney trip that I had a phone dilenma before I even left. Thankfully, Tim had his so I wasn't as upset. What could I do?

After a quick two and a half hour flight, we were in paradise! We marched right up to the DME, boarded and were off within 10 minutes with one other family on the way to All Star Music. We couldn't help but crack up though that the song from the Canadian Pavilion movie was on in the bus. Tim is from Canada and our dinner that night was in Le Cellier. Thoughout the trip, Canada seemed to be quite prominent through other guests, shirts and themes. After our little video, we were there! Our front desk agent Dianne was extremely gracious and granted every request I had. A king sized bed in the Jazz Inn and it was ready!!! What more could I want??? We headed to our room and as we walked out towards the pool, I started getting emotional. We were finally here..after two years of waiting, months of planning and lots of saving pennies.

We were thrilled with the room, changed into "Florida" clothes and headed to Epcot. We were ready for some Food and Wine Festival goodness and Future World Fun!

We headed to Soarin, got fast passes and decided to grab lunch from Sunshine Seasons. I was a bit apprehensive about the crowds. The place was packed! I ran though my head thinking what could be going on that I wasn't aware of? I had come down during the same time a couple years ago and it was NOT like this. I tried not to let it bother me and looked forward to some yummy Sunshine Seasons goodness. Tim got the Pork Chop and Caramel Apple cake for dessert while I got the Grilled Salmon and Key Lime Tart.

I am loving your trip report and your pictures. I have to say, I teared up a bit at the section where you described your own tears upon entering Magic Kingdom. Let me say how happy I am to hear that your mom is now a "survivor". That is such great news and I wish her continued health. :)

And the pictures your boyfriend took are wonderful. Can't wait to read more of your trip report.

What an amazing TR! You look so happy, it's excellent.. especially the "I GOT MY TSMM FASTPASS TICKETS BOOOORAH" picture.

Adorable!

Thank you so much! I was really psyched to get those TSMM Fast Passes!

Aww thanks so much. Thanks to her whole situation, I've basically become a big emotional wuss. I got emotional a few times that week.

So after we rocked Everest, I noticed we were too late for a Lion King show. But I got the idea to hit up the character area in Camp Minnie Mickey before the crowd let out. So we rolled back through Africa and down towards Camp.

100_3762-1.jpg

Although...I kinda had a "squirrel" moment..

100_3768.jpg

I found all kinds of fun stuff in that store..

100_3765.jpg

To be fair, Tim isn't a huge store browsing fan. He was more excited to see the parks and I don't blame him. But he knows although I don't buy a ton of Disney merchandise, I still love looking and playing with all of it. And he gave me my time to do both!

So we did good racing down to Camp because Mickey had one person in line before us! One! FOR MICKEY! We really lucked out so I recommend this tip to anyone looking to meet the big cheese. Go around lunch time and during a show. We had minimal waits with the rest of the characters as well and managed to finish up just as the crowds were letting out of Lion King.

100_3780.jpg

100_3785.jpg

It was about this time that both of us were itching for some food. We had split a small breakfast sandwich in Africa after the safari but it wasn't much. Plus, we wanted to have a good lunch because dinner was going to be a big one and it wasn't until later. Each day, Tim asked what our options were for a counter service or what the dining plan was for the day. He really came into the trip knowing NOTHING. So I'd lay out what table service we had, if any, and what counter service options there was in each park. He basically picked where we went for counter service each day. Today, as expected, he chose Flame Tree.

This was a first for me eating there as well. During my last trip, my Mom and I dined at Yak & Yeti and really enjoyed it. I wanted to have us eat there, but there was just too many restaurants and not enough time. So we headed to Flame Tree which was not crowded at all. Tim got the ribs, I got the pulled pork sandwich. We split an order of onion rings and each got the key lime parfait that came with our meal.

100_3793-1.jpg

We really enjoyed our meal here. I never realized how the seating areas were set up for here and it was really nice and quaint.

After rolling out, we had a serious case of food coma. We found a Pooh character spot, which we had to stop at with Tim being such a fan. It was a nice surprise finding Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger. Afterwards, I figured we'd hit up Dinosaur for some fast passes and were shocked to find they were out for the day.

100_3802.jpg

100_3808.jpg

The wait was an hour so we figured we'd check back later for standby. So we headed to Chester and Hester or Hester and Chesters? I'm not sure but I'm not crazy about this area.

My reasoning is this. I grew up in South Jersey so I was raised around the Boardwalk scene with all the Boardwalk attractions and games. Because I grew up around it, this area doesn't really speak to me because it feels like a dinosaur area of what I have always been around. Spoiled? A bit. Funny part is, I absolutely LOVE the Boardwalk area in Disney. I feel like it's what all the Boardwalks are supposed to be and so aren't anymore.

100_3809.jpg

We did the Primevial Whirl which my best friend is a big fan of. It was ok but it actually stopped mid ride a couple times which hurt considerably since you are packed in pretty tight.

Next, we moved on to Nemo the Musical. I had yet to see this but had some reservations. I was truly interested/concerned how you would turn a film into a musical that was not one to begin with. How would you relate to the songs or get into it? I had horrible visions of "Titanic" the musical on Broadway? But then I remembered hearing that the same folks that wrote the songs for Avenue Q did these....that probably concerns others lol. But I hoped it would be good.

100_3834.jpg

We loved it! And I had the "Big Blue World" stuck in my head for a good hour.

100_3838.jpg

I was really impressed with the whole thing and would definitely see it again next time we go.

Shortly after, we wandered down through the Tree of Life to find out how tough it is to be a bug.

100_3839.jpg

100_3841.jpg

As always, this is a fun one. But the glasses were off to me and it looked fuzzier then normal. We headed up ways to Kali to brave the rapids.

Tim went nuts taking photos in the queue. He was really impressed with all the details.

100_3860.jpg

100_3863.jpg

100_3869.jpg

So yeah, we got drenched. Pretty much the bottom half only but we were the ones who went over the drop backwards.

We came out and raced yet again to find a spot for the parade. I was fighting a nasty headache at this point which I had actually been battling for a good part of the trip. I don't know if it was because I had more sugar then usual or lack of caffeine. But we finally hit up the Tea Company for an iced coffee. It was yummo! We found a spot right off the bridge from Discovery Island and Asia. Tim liked this one, but I don't think he fully enjoyed it due to the space being more confined.

100_3878.jpg

100_3887.jpg

100_3895.jpg

Alright, more tomorrow. I'm wiped! We will finish up Animal Kingdom, our "Date Night" and possibly the start of Day 5.

So after my crazy busy month at work and semi wdwmagic-hiatus, I come back to the boards and find your super fabulous trip report! :sohappy: Where do I start?!

Okay, you know you have a winner when your boyfriend gets fully on board with characters, pin trading lanyards and early morning starts in the parks. I can't be the only one who is dying to see a picture of the two of you together. It's so obvious how much fun you're having that I wish we could see his reactions to it all (but I totally respect the anonymity thing).

I am so impressed with how well you paced yourselves and incorporated some relaxation into the trip, especially knowing how much you probably wanted to show off the parks to Tim. Your trip kinda reminds me of my and Brett's first trip, only I was the one with absolutely no clue of what to expect or what was coming next. I can remember Brett letting me lead the way. And he, too, kept his mouth shut about the attractions (giving nothing away) so I could experience them in full glory. One thing you said earlier on in the report really resonated with me, about how Disney helps us to make our relationships a priority. Well put, I totally agree. And I'm super happy to hear that your mom is now a survivor!

Oh yeah... loved the shout out to Michael Scott at the beginning! I can't wait for more. Especially date night, I LOVE date night!

Aww thanks so much HollyBelle! It's funny that it comes across as us having some relaxation in there because we TOTALLY did not. You'll actually see later in the trip how much we should have factored in some relaxing.

Yeah he totally got on board which was awesome. I thought he'd "like" Disney, but I wasn't expecting the pin trading, character chasing, video taping rides stuff. It was so exciting!

So after Mickey's Jammin Jungle Parade, we bee lined down to The Festival of the Lion King. We got really good during this trip, of plowing through crowds in little to no time and just "barely" making shows. We really accomplished a lot within the first four days and contrary to what HollyBelle pointed out, really did not take it easy. LOL we commandeered these parks!

We made it in within ten minutes of the show starting.

100_3949.jpg

100_3956.jpg

As expected, Tim really enjoyed this one. We came out and thought about trying to hit up Dinosaur again. It was 5pm at this point and there was EMH until 8pm. However, we had our "Date Night" tonight. So we decided to head out and get ready and planned to hit up Dinosaur on another day.

We hopped a bus and headed back to the room. Tonight was our big dinner at the California Grill! For some reason, I had been wanting to try this place ever since I saw it as a kid. There was something really special looking about it and I had never been. So Tim brought khakis and a nice button down shirt. I had a long cotton black dress.

We did get some looks waiting for the bus. LOL Definitely appeared a bit overdressed to be going to MK. But we actually got some overdressed buddies with us on the way there too. And some more Canadians. We had met a LOT on our way through WDW and ended up making a lot of new friends along the way.

Tim got his first Monorail ride to the Contemporary, which he thought was pretty cool and I thought was awesome! We had minor troubles finding the actual check in spot for Cali, but were directed by some cast members. TO be honest, there was some lighting issues going on by the elevators that initially surprised me. They were flickering so badly, it reminded Tim of one of those motel signs you see in the movies that looks real shady. But we got escorted right over to the elevator and taken up. We were about 15 minutes early so we headed over to the bar.

I was surprised at how loud the room was, but couldn't get over how nice the decor was and of course the view. It was breathtaking! Tim even let out a "Wow" when he spotted the castle. We sat down at the bar and each got a cocktail. Before we could even take a sip, the assistant manager came over to tell us that our table was ready in the private dining room. "I'm sorry, the what?" I did hear him right, the private dining room. Tim looked at me, stunned as well, and asked how I managed to pull off getting that. This was not at all part of my plan so I was completely shocked. He grabbed our drinks and escorted us back to the wine room.

When we arrived at our table, we found Mickey confetti all over it. To be honest, at this point I started getting quite nervous. Was this something he planned? Did he have something planned? Oh my God is he proposing? We've been together for a bit now and I know he is absolutely the man for me but I SOOOO wasn't in that frame of mind. But no, this was not the case. This was the celebration for his first trip and our timing was apparently just such that we got this table. I'm not going to lie, I was originally bummed that we could not see the castle from here. But this room was so much quieter then the main room and we actually could see ROE at Epcot from our table.

100_3969.jpg

Tim ordered a bottle of Veuve Champagne and a bottle of Cabernet to celebrate. Although we were on the basic dining plan, we both had stated that this would be our special night and we were prepared to spend some extra money here since we are both big foodies. So two bottles it was!

We also opted for the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli and the one I had been stalking online, The Tuna Three Ways.

They were kind enough to actually split the ravioli between the two of us, which I thought was lovely.

100_3974.jpg

100_3975.jpg

Both were terrific! We are both huge Tuna fans so that was a big hit between us, as well as the ravioli.

For our entree, I went with the pork tenderloin and Tim got the filet.

100_3978.jpg

100_3979.jpg

Holy amazing Batman! This was one of the best dinners I have ever had. The pork was perfectly cooked and Tim was thrilled with his filet. Our server was very attentive and even freaked out a bit when he accidentally poured red wine into my champagne glass.

It was now fireworks time! We were tipped off to go to the second observation deck, out the door by the bathrooms because it would be less crowded. What a great tip! We were the first ones out there at 15 minutes before where the other observation deck was packed. At this point, one of my best friends, Jennie and her boyfriend, Ray came up to the bar to meet up with us. Jennie is a cast member and has been one of my dearest friends for over ten years. We were thrilled to be able to meet up with them. They had been at the 3D Dessert Party at Epcot and made it over in time to watch the fireworks with us. They were great! It was funny to see the actual distance between the Castle and where they are set off. It was also quite windy and chilly. But I plowed through!

We headed back inside and Ray & Jennie joined us at the table. I don't think our server was too thrilled about this. Really not sure why since he would end up getting more money out of us and it wasn't going to effect his tip. We got a cheese plate and the banana napoleon thing for dessert. Honestly...I was buzzed at this point and did not take photos. I know, not ok. But they were great! We finished up and headed down to the Wave, but it was closing up. Ray and Jennie drove us home and we passed out from being so tired.

Next...Day 5!

Great TR so far! So cool about the unexpected private room at Cali Grill.

I love the pic of you at Tatooine Traders with the R2D2 Mickey ears. I'm a more closeted Star Wars fan but anything Disney and Star Wars is great! The boyfriend and I went this past May during Star Wars weekends and it was awesome. We watched all the movies in order (the way George Lucas intended it...not chronological order) to prepare and it brought out the fan in me. And those ears are so adorable! The boyfriend and I were Han Solo and Leia for Halloween. I have been bitten by the Star Wars bug.

Can't wait to read the rest of your report!

Day 5
The Return To Hollywood Studios

(Gosh I can't believe we are only on Day 5!)

100_3996.jpg

So one would think that after a late night out after a full day and downing two full bottles of alcohol, one would sleep in? Yeah, no. It was extra magic hours at 8am for Hollywood Studios! What did this mean? Hopping in the Toy Story Dash again? Again, yeah no. We had a plan this time to make the run down Sunset and get Tim on TOT. Last I was at EMH, they also weren't doing FP's. So I figured at 9 when the park opened, we'd go get some.

100_3995.jpg

100_3999.jpg

So Tim headed to TOT and I bee lined over to RNRC. As I hit the RNRC entrance, I noticed that FP's were up and available. Oh crap, I was going to have to high tail it over there! Should I run now? I'll run there afterwards. I was on the first car for RNRC and of course, I loved it! So I assumed at this point that Tim would want to roll through TOT twice since I don't do this one. As I came out of the exit, there was Tim ready to run to TSMM.

100_3997.jpg

We hightailed it over to TSMM and grabbed our FP's for a 12:05-1:05p return time. As we went, Tim told me how he was disappointed in TOT. I guess because out of all the things at WDW, TOT is the only thing that I would not do. I'm not a fan of elevators or drops, I just don't do it. He perceived this as being "terrified" of this ride and expected it to be a lot scarier. He thought it was ok, but not a favorite.

We rolled back to RNRC because Tim wanted to hop on this one again. We ended up riding RNRC 6 times that day...clearly, it was a favorite.

100_4005.jpg

This was a bad morning for me to not have any coffee off the bat. Yeah, I was feeling the night before a wee bit. So after two roller coaster rides, I needed coffee and something in my stomach. We rolled over to the Sunset Market and split another breakfast sandwich and got some coffee.

100_4013.jpg

100_4017.jpg

It was a nice sized breakfast sandwich, but actually had no flavor. We didn't want something major because we had a lunch/snack planned at 12p. Side note, this was the funkiest tasting coffee I had during the whole trip. Nescafe actually tasted better then this. I don't know if it was bad creamer or what.

We wandered over past Writer's Stop and being a Castle fan, thought this was great..

100_4019.jpg

We headed over to the Cars area to get a photo with Lightning and Mater for my niece. She is completely and totally obsessed with this movie. Princesses? Not for her! Give her Mack, Mater and Lightning any day! After that, we made our way through the Streets of America area. Tim's goal through the second day in each park was to hit up stuff we did not do the first day. To be honest, we plowed through so much, that there wasn't a whole lot we didn't get to.

So we hit up the Backlot Tour next. I hadn't done this in years so it was fun to go back on it. I love all the Pirates paraphernalia cause I'm a big Pirates fan. Tim snapped away with the photos, but I'll spare everyone with random prop photos.

However, I am a big fan of the AFI area. Oh yeah, and of this guy too...

100_4087.jpg

Afterwards we went to get in line for the Monsters Inc greeting area. I don't know if I mentioned either that I'm kinda obsessed with this movie and this little one too...

OK-joining the commentary a little late, but I think I'm still caught up in Halloween and Bday party stuff.

In any event...great TR!!!

I was so glad to see someone post a pic of the poutine. I saw it on LeCellier's menu and was starting to wish I'd booked it...but after seeing your pic, I know we're not missing anything!

I also love the pics of Boo. DD4 went through a Boo-look-a-like phase in her 2s and we became a bit obsessed. I might just have to buy that plush you're holding up. In fact, you've shown us a lot of toys we're going to have to resist. That - and all of those cupcake/bakery photos that look super yummy! :slurp:

So we waited patiently in line for Mike & Sulley. I really am still bummed that Boo does not have a meet and greet. I get that she can't see but if you can walk through a parade, can't you stand in one spot while people adore you? I'm just sayin...

100_4105.jpg

100_4102.jpg

I've seen Mike and Sulley before, but I was actually a bit more excited this time because I've now seen the movie (and fell in love with it!)

Photo0140FourBySix.jpg

After dropping into Monstropolis, we headed over to Sci Fi Dine In. So to be completely honest, we had lunch reservations for her booked for a bit. I didn't remember the food being ridiculously outstanding, but I wanted Tim to check out the atmosphere. Then I read Blackthidot's review on it. Needless to say, I aborted my plan quickly. I knew that if we went, all I would be thinking of is a sweaty belly button. So at the advisement of someone on this board, I kept the ADR, but was only going to go for a milkshake and pay out of pocket. So we decided to get an appetizer or two and a shake.

Well we had been worried about this park being mobbed since it was a Saturday and by the looks of this place at lunch, our thoughts were right. We waited about 15 minutes past our ADR time and then were called by a super creepy looking host. He took us to our car and we were greeted quickly by a server. We ordered spinach artichoke dip, onion rings and a shake for each of us.

As soon as she saw we weren't getting "lunch", her whole attitude changed. We watched her "play" with other tables and even joke around with the people sitting in front of us. Once we got our food, we basically didn't exist. We couldn't believe it. Now we understand that maybe the server isn't thrilled with us having a snack, but that snack was still over $25 bucks, which is still $5 in your pocket since we tip 20%. From my understanding, a lot of DDP folks don't tip because they think it's included. Tim was actually happy we didn't eat a full meal here or waste a table credit because our food was ok, but not exciting. He was happy to see the inside, he thought it was awesome.

Afterwards, we ran over quickly to TSMM to use our fast passes. Once again, I was defeated.

100_4112.jpg

Whatever...I still destroyed him in Buzz and would again...twice. But I'm not bitter.

After the butt whooping, we made our way over to the Tune In Lounge next to 50's Prime Time to meet up with Jennie & Ray again.

100_4113.jpg

They grabbed lunch there and then planned to play with us for awhile before heading off to Party of the Senses that night. We had a drink there and then headed down to RNRC again. After riding, Tim spotted these in the bathroom outside and thought they were pretty awesome.

100_4117.jpg

100_4118.jpg

100_4119.jpg

Heading back up Sunset, we ran back into the Pixar Block Party Bash. I resisted my screaming-Jonas-Brother-Loving-Looking-14-year-old inner self that was telling me to go find Boo and just kinda bopped around to the Toy Story part of the parade for a minute or two. We then made our way to The Magic Of Animation. I hadn't seen this in quite sometime and was excited to do the "tour" again.

100_4128.jpg

Well, I was certainly surprised to find that it wasn't a tour anymore, and just a little sit down show followed by a couple different interactive stations and character meet and greets. I remember something completely different from when I was younger. Am I wrong? Either way, we still really enjoyed it and got a kick out of looking at the animation offices.

We ran over then to see the man himself, Mickey! He was quite a flirt! It was really cute though.

Afterwards, we wandered over to get in line for Lotso. I've been pretty honest throughout this TR, so why stop now? After seeing TS3 twice, I HATE this bear. I think he is a little stuffed devil. Lotso huggin bear? No, Lotso Evil Bear. However, being a Toy Story fan, I figured you might as well see him while he's out and being featured. I will say, I really liked how they made the area look like Sunnyside Day Care.

Well, evil bear came out and I have to admit, he was so infectiously likeable. He skipped out, squished through the rope area and then was ready for me to tackle him since we were the first in line. And he lives up to the name, he is a hugger. And a fun one!

I guess it's the Lotso that he was before he was forgotten. Either way I like that Lotso better then the one in the movie. I still wish though that the UP characters were still there. I would have absolutely love to have seen them.

Next stop, back to Tatooine Traders. Now, Jennie is the reason that I am a Star Wars fan. She is a FANATIC and has been for quite some time now. So if there's a store we were going to play in together, Tatooine Traders it is!

Shockingly, we didn't buy anything. It was at this point that Jennie and Ray had to leave us so they headed out and we made another trip back to RNRC. We were wandering at this point too and noticed that the park now seemed quiet. It was really nice. We had also been picking up trader pins along the way so we made a quick stop under the hat for a few more. We had been finding several Pooh pins for Tim and I had found a few along the way that I liked.

Tim and I then made our way over to Mama Melrose's. We had picked up an ADR there for dinner after backing out of Sci Fi. My best friend is a big fan of this place and every time we walk past it, it smells amazing. However, it doesn't have the most hype or the most reviews. So we wandered in hungry at this point and waited for our table. We were seated pretty quickly in what looked like a closed station.

I was advised to have their sangria, but I still was fighting my headache of the week and really wasn't up for alcohol. Neither was Tim. Both of us felt dehydrated and downed about three glasses of water for me, Lemonade for Tim. We ordered the Clams Oreganato as an appetizer to share. The sauce was amazing and they gave us plenty of bread to sop it up with.

I then ordered the Shrimp Pipette and Tim got the Wood Fired Tuna.

Boy oh boy! This one came out of no where for us. The restaurant itself felt like you were in a Fridays or Applebees. But the food did not match up to that look at all. My pasta was not too thick and had plenty of flavor. Tim's tuna and risotto was awesome. We managed to find some room for dessert. He got the chocolate cannoli cake and I got vanilla gelato because to be honest, I was stuffed.

His cake was scrumptious. My gelato actually tasted more like plain vanilla ice cream but was still good. We really enjoyed this meal and would definitely go back. The restaurant was relatively quiet and it was nice to just sit after a long day of running all over the park.

We rolled out and wandered out of the very empty park. It was closing at 7pm anyways for a private event and we had plans to go to the ESPN Club to watch the Phillies Game 1 of the playoffs. Apparently though, so was everyone else. There was an hour line to get in the door it was mobbed. So we took his photo to prove we made it over there and tried to get a boat back to HS to grab a bus.

Except they weren't taking boats back to HS. So then we tried to get a bus. Long story short, it took us two hours to get home that night. We were EXHAUSTED by the time we got home. We crashed and barely saw any of the Phillies. Oh well, that tends to happen in Disney.

Tomorrow...Day 6!

3 to 4 hours North for you.

For some reason Manchester NH is crazy about poutine as well.

I've lived in Manchester NH (West side, with the old canucks) almost all my life and we are crazy about Poutine (AKA Poo-Tang, that's what my friends and I call it). I've tried every Canadian want-to-be restos and they pretty much don't do it justice. When my mom visits our family I make her bring back the real cheese and a bunch of St. Hubert gravy packets and we eat it till we chuck...just thinking about it makes me hungry.
