Ah, then they must have just added that. CNN is also commenting on it as well as some local sites around South Carolina. It's really bad this season. :(
It has been all over my news feeds on Facebook, but that is kind of to be expected as I subscribe to quite a bit of medical and science based ones.

Actually, just Googled one of Colorado's news websites and nothing in regards to the flu is mentioned.

You must have missed this posted last night from a Colorado news site...

Is that a joke, or are you just ignorant, or just a troll?

So far this season, 566 people have been hospitalized for influenza in Colorado, compared with the 150 cases typically logged by mid-December, state health officials say. Conversely, norovirus outbreaks have been light.

ā€œWeā€™re seeing a pretty severe influenza season so far,ā€ state epidemiologist Dr. Rachel Herlihy said. ā€œWeā€™re having roughly three times the usual number of cases at this point in the year.ā€ - https://www.denverpost.com/2017/12/20/flu-season-in-colorado/

Any idea as to why it is so bad this year?
A number of the sources I have read stated it was because the strain going around this year is H3N2 (simillar to swine flu), which tends to be more severe and causes more severe symptoms than other strains of flu.

There is also an issue with the way flu vaccines are currently made using chicken eggs. The end result is not always identical the the virus they trying to emulate and this years H3N2 is a bit off so the vaccine, while made to stop H3N2, is not working as well against it.

So do they not have national news in CO? I swear, every night there is a new story about the flu and some poor family who's had a loved-one die from it. It may not be in the local news, but it's definitely on the 3 primary national evening news reports.

I wanted to share something that happened to me today.

I havenā€™t felt well since Tuesday late afternoon. Started with chest pain and drowsiness. Then morphed to heavier chest pain, coughing, ear aches, fever, and intense body aches, extreme fatigue.

Left work early today to get tested for the flu.
Much to my surprise, I tested negative for both Influenza A and Influenza B.

So I asked the doctor- ā€œWhat do I have?ā€
She replied ā€œThe Fluā€.
I gave her a puzzled look and said ā€œDidnā€™t I just test negative.ā€
Doctor- ā€œYes. Youā€™re about the 10 or 11 th person this week with the exact same scenario. I see every symptom of the flu, but the test tells me otherwise. I believe it has to do with the strain weā€™re seeing this year. Iā€™m treating you for the flu.ā€

Anyway, just wanted to share because of the oddity of the situation. Iā€™ve only had the flu once, in 2014, and it felt exactly like this. Maybe the doctor is correct in her assessment.

Itā€™s not odd at all, the quick test has a high rate of false negatives.

That sucks. Hope you feel better :(

The intense feeling of cold is what gets me every time I get the flu. I hate it. It's like I am cold down to my bones and nothing warms me up.

Thanks. I agree. My water bill is going to be frightening next month. Iā€™ve taken 9 hot baths with Epsom salts over the past 3 days. And then a hot shower to wash my hair after the morning one. Iā€™m planning on continuing the 3x daily baths until I feel better. :)

That on itā€™s own wouldnā€™t be too bad.. but Iā€™ve pretty much washed everything in the house, dirty or not, to try to prevent any germs from spreading. Fingers crossed that it wasnā€™t too late.

Get yourself a good electric blanket and bunch of cans of Chicken Noodle Soup, and drink plenty of fluids. Most importantly, rest.

I get all Dr. KB/motherly when it comes to being sick. I don't like getting sick myself, but I especially don't like others getting sick.

I took my ds to Urgent Care last week, same symptoms. He was tested for flu, came back negative. The dr. mentioned adenovirus? It looks a lot like flu, but it's different. So, we came home with no meds - he is only now starting to feel better. His temp. was hovering between 102 and 103.8 for four days, I checked on him constantly and pushed fluids. He had one bath, that made him feel worse. I am so sorry you are sick - hang in there, take meds for symptoms, drink fluids, and rest. This too shall pass!

Itā€™s the flu. Itā€™s winter. Everyone gets it.
this is completely false, what many people call the flu is a cold or stomach virus. Actual flu is a big deal. As a fit person in my mid 30s, who worked out every day and rarely got sick, I was hospitalized with the flu which progressed to pneumonia. I was in critical condition and it was the first time I had ever been in a situation were a very real possible outcome was death. People make light of the flu because folks get the sniffles and say they have the flu, or get diarrhea or an upset stomach and say they have the flu. I'll say it again, the flu is a big deal. Its just that people label common infections as "the flu" and that diminishes our perceptions of it.

After that case I always get the shot, its a quick jab and makes me less likely to spend a week miserable in bed, or possibly worse. Seems like an easy choice.
