Yeah... I thought there was talk that they would not bring back the Joker.
To be honest... with how well Ledger did in his portrayal and his recent death, I don't see the general public warming up to someone else taking over the role in this series of Batman films...

I agree. I really don't see how anyone can compare - not to say they couldn't, just not portray him the same.
I'm pretty much willing to bet, we'll get a line along the lines of 'with the Joker in arkham...'.

They have to bring him back. He's the ultimate batman villain. I'm sure someone else could play him just as well as Heath.

I agree that he's the ultimate batman villain, but I strongly doubt we'll see him again in a Nolan-verse movie.

I agree completely, for all the same reasons. I don't expect to see The Joker portrayed by anyone other than Heath Ledger in the Nolan movies. I know a lot of people would not be too thrilled with recasting the part.
As for the re-release, I'm not sure it'll make enough to pull past Titanic. I've been wrong before though

I wonder how much longer it will stick around, if they're re-releasing it in 4 months. Can the studio basically order theaters to stop showing it after a certain date, or is it up to the theaters?

They need to do one of those Home Alone second pushes. How many times have you seen it? Add a blooper reel like they did for the earlier Pixar movies. Do a sing-a-long version like Hairspray and Mamma Mia. Something. We can dig together an extra 80 mil. I'm sure of it. Maybe give away free Joker trading cards or something. Or maybe $5 of the DVD coupons or something.

I'm thinking Titanic is safe at this point, re-release or not. The bottom has really started to fall out, not just in number of theaters but in average take per theater. $127 average Monday. This thing will probably disappear before too long.
If they put it back out in January (just 4 months away) without releasing the DVD first, I'm thinking one big weekend, possibly around the $20 million range, then a quick drop. I just don't see another $82 million here. Seems like everybody who cares has seen it.
(Please note Wilt Dasney is in no way an expert on the film industry and is probably talking out of his butt...unless he is proven right, in which case he will shout "Ha! Told you so!")

Bumping this to note that Titanic finally caught Dark Knight over the weekend, when you compare their takes after an equal number of days in theaters.
After 108 days
Titanic: $530,406,538
Dark Knight: $528,213,279
So it took 3 1/2 months for it to happen. Not too bad. Is that January re-release still a for sure thing?

^ An okay article. Iron Man is no where near best picture material, but IMO WALL-E and The Dark Knight are two of the best movies I've seen in a loooooong time, so I think they should get nods.
Of course the Academy has their heads up their collective butt, so WALL-E will only get a stupid Animated Movie Oscar

I completely agree with everything you said. I can't comment about Iron Man since I haven't seen it (I know, I know but I'm superhero saturated haha) but I definitely think TDK and WALL-E deserve nods. It's too bad they'll pigeonhole WALL-E into the animated category... if it doesn't win that though, there's something seriously wrong with the Academy lol

The Dark Knight is a first for my DVD collection. It will be my first Blu-Ray disc! (Do I have a Blu-Ray player yet? Nope :lol: )
