The Dark Knight Countdown

Its kind of ironic how The Dark Knight is about to take star wars but another star wars movie is coming out and could claim the number 1 spot.

Fanart, but awesome, nonetheless.

Now that is COOL! I wish it were real.

Well...it looks like we beat Clone Wars (although the estimates are close), but the run at the top is over.

Weekend estimates
1. Tropic Thunder $26,000,000
2. The Dark Knight $16,790,000
3. Star Wars: The Clone Wars $15,505,000

The good news...we've vaulted Star Wars into #2 all-time. Titanic is still a long $129 million slog ahead though.

Wow, I can't believe a Star Wars movie didn't open up at #1. This MUST be a first!

I was surprised too. I didn't expect it to shatter any records, but I figured the Star Wars brand would be enough for a weekend at #1 at least.

Not after the backlash from the prequel trilogy. That and almost universally bad reviews kept the numbers lower than they were hoping.

One critic even stated it was "a feature length trailer for the cartoon series that will debut in the fall."

Another one, my favorite line from any review, said that "the most interesting character is a Hutt who seems to like crossdressing."

I think I'll wait for DVD for this one, especially since a new place opened around the corner from me that does $1 DVD rentals.

So...the Titanic question. Is it even possible?

TDK made 2.1 million Monday (Day 32) ...fairly modest when you're talking about needing $130 million for the title.

Then I checked the daily take for Titanic. On day 33 (a Monday, to make sure it's apples-to-apples), it pulled in 2.3 million. Roughly the same as TDK.

So basically in terms of the weekday hauls, TDK is just about where Titanic was at this point (in flat dollars, not ticket sales obviously). So it really all depends on whether TDK can match Titanic's staggering string of weekend hauls. It's not likely, but....at least it isn't out of the question quite yet. TDK is still WELL ahead of where Titanic stood in overall grab at this point, so it doesn't need to do AS WELL in the later weekends, just very, very well.

Depends on two things...how long will they let it run and how many theaters will it lose during that run.

TDK will pass $500 million sometime next Thursday, I am guessing. If it plays through mid October it has a real chance. I figure it will end it's run at theaters mid September, leaving it about $40-50 million short.

You have to realize TDK is playing in almost 1000 less theaters than it was a month ago. If the number continues to drop in that pattern, then it may end up $60-70 million short.

I see what you mean. Titanic was still ADDING theaters nearly 4 months into its run.

Wow, those are really amazing! I especially like the ones for Harley Quinn, they're perfect! The only thing I'd change though giving the ridler a mask, not glasses.

I hate Harley Quinn. :lookaroun

OK, "hate" is a strong word. I just think the premise behind the character is ridiculous, even by Batman standards...at least the one they gave her in the animated show.

Well, The Riddler there is David Tennant who currently plays The Doctor on Doctor Who. He does wear glasses at times, so they didn't have to try to photoshop a mask onto him using the glasses there. Either that, or the person that did it really likes David and didn't want to cover his face.

Timmay...

Due to a loophole...you were right...it will sink Titanic.

In January, Warner Brothers is RERELEASING The Dark Knight into theaters.

(They say it's to keep the film fresh on people's minds for the Academy Awards...I say it's because they know #1 is a lock if they do it.)

It is still going to be close. TDK may have $520 million by the end of this weekend. I am not sure it can get the $80 million or so it needs with the re-release. I say if the DVD is released before then, then it really has no shot. The numbers have just dropped off way too much the last week. I figured it would be still be doing close to $750K a day, but it is down around $400K.

As portrayed in the comic, she becomes fascinated with the Joker while interning at Arkham, and volunteers to analyze him. She falls in love nearly instantly with the Joker during their sessions. After helping him escape from the asylum more than once, she is caught by her superiors, who revoke her license and put her in her own cell. During an earthquake in Gotham City, she flees and becomes Harley Quinn, the Joker's partner-in-crime
