The dangers of a first floor room

Just got back from a 4-night stay at the Boardwalk. Had a nice room on the first floor with a pleasant view of the courtyard between the hotel proper and the garden suites. However, there was one very strange episode that has me rethinking ever accepting a first floor room again. One night, I went to bed around 11. I was awakened at about 11:30 by a loud pounding. Having just awakened, I was a bit disoriented, but thought it sounded like someone at the door, so I went to check. No one there. Then, more pounding, and this time I could tell it was coming from the back door to the patio. I opened the curtains to see a very angry looking woman. When she saw me (obviously not the person she was expecting), she turned bright red and quickly slunk away. I did yell "thanks for waking me up", but didn't see the point in doing anything else. So I guess I should just remind everyone that if you're going to try to get into your first floor room through the back entrance, be absolutely sure you know which room is yours.

I didn't like first floor at Boardwalk either. :( I didn't have an epidsode like you did, but it was a little less private than I would have liked. :)

Hey, I stayed in a 3rd floor room, and a hooker knocked on my door at 3am... It doesn't get much more, um, interesting than that:lookaroun!!

When I read the title I was thinking along the lines of a clogging group above your room.:snore:
I think I stayed beneath them once or twice!

We've had ground floor rooms at the Poly on two occasions, and both were pleasant--just a short walk out of the room to the beach. However, we had some VERY noisy kids on the floor above us on one occasion and management was reluctant to do anything about it. I now prefer third floor or higher!

Oh that was so confusing.................... In the UK a first floor room would refer to a room on the first floor ABOVE the ground floor. Just wondering how someone could knock on your patio doors if its 20 feet off the ground

That happens here too. Sometimes it is called the ground floor, sometimes the first floor. We have stayed on the first floor a few times at various hotels and I don't remember ever having any problems. I guess something can happen at anytime though, even in Disney.

Sidenote: Are you very superstitious about the number 13 in the U.K.? I ask because in many places in the U.S. skyscrapers will leave out a thirteenth floor, in terms of numbering. Although, there is one building that I can think of that has a thirteenth floor.:animwink:

I always request the top floor (unless exclusive) of any hotel I stay in to avoid foot noise from the guests above me. Of course, that doesn't stop drunks knocking on my door at all hours (twice in one night at All-Star Music one year).

Yeah, we have superstitions about 13. Mostly Friday 13th. I used to work for a firm of conveyancing solicitors (house buying and selling) and they were always very quiet on Friday 13 as no one wanted to move on that day as it was considered unlucky.

Strangely, 13 is actually my lucky number...:lookaroun

When we stay at The Polynesian or The Contemporary Wing rooms we always request a first floor room.

It's nice when you hear the Water pagent or the Magic Kingdom Fireworks going off just to open the sliding doors and walk over to the beach for a better view.

The patio doors have double locks so my wife and I feel pretty secure at night.

I also love to have my morning coffee on the first floor patio.

The only drawback is at night, if you are in a heavy traffic area, like the Hawaii longhouse at The Polynesian, and you're feeling frisky, well let's just say you better make sure all your curtains are completley closed.:animwink:

Similar to the OP but not a 1st floor incident, at Pop one year we had someone call our room, ask for someone that wasn't us, then hang up several times. The last call the guy was really aggitated and started cursing at my hubby because he had the wrong room number and thought we were lying that whomever he was asking for wasn't there. Oooh, that fellow got an ear full from the old man! LOL! It was funny!!! This was part of our list of reasons to avoid staying in a value resort again if we could afford to avoid it. So far we've had better luck overall with other than value accommodations.
