The fudge and rum balls sound good, so do the toffee cookies. Yum yum!

Sorry to read about your loss. Will there be a virtual funeral? Some churches/funeral homes are live streaming funerals. I liked songbird's idea of sending a picture. Even including a personal story can be comforting.

I went to a wake about two months ago. It was interesting odd. The family was roped off 6 feet away, of course it didn't stop them from coming up to you and there was no seats except for immediate family because they want you to leave right away. I didn't go to the funeral because they had a mass and I didn't want to be inside a church with people.

I am one of the few that likes SPAM! In Hawaii, spam is very popular as a luncheon meat. The McDonalds breakfast special in Oahu when I went was miso soup, fried spam, scrambled eggs and a mound of white rice. McDonalds in China is coming up with a spam and Oreo cookies burger. That is a unique combination but then again some in NJ put ketchup on their bagel with Taylor Ham.
I’ve love Spam too. When we visited Hawaii we would order spam McMuffins!

Maybe you and @epcotisbest can answer what is so special about Spam. I don't get it at all. It's meat and worse it's meat in a can?

For me it is pretty simple. I came from a dirt poor upbringing. We had nothing. No, to get up to nothing we had to borrow something or it would be less than nothing.
Anyway, I remember lots of hungry days and nights as a kid. The best meals were when we visited grandad and granny or the free lunch program at school.
For us, it was mostly beans and potatoes, but every now and then, and it was not often, we would have Spam, and it was a real treat. The salty, slightly tangy texture, especially fried and served with fried potatoes, made for something special, especially when you had not had anything but beans and cornbread, or peanut butter sandwiches for awhile.
So it is sort of a nostalgia thing. These days I like to try different things with Spam, but still will have just a plain ole Spam sandwich sometimes.
We did not have much, but we had love and every now and then, some Spam, especially when they had some dented cans the grocery store marked down on sale.
And yes, when we went to Hawaii a couple of years ago I had some Spam. Grilled Spam and pineapple was good, as was Spam musubi.
Here is a Spam hash I made for breakfast awhile back.

Today, finally get to the fudge and rum balls.
I also found a recipe my mom used when my brothers were younger. It is a cookie mix base, that is the start of a bunch of different cookies. Planning on snowballs, thumbprints, peanut butter. There is a toffee cookie I might have to try, too. Since exchanging cookies isn't a thing this year, seems like a good way to get a bunch of different cookies, without having too many for he 4 of us.

And, last weekend was sad. The best neighbor I could have ever asked for passed away. All of the things I would normally do, I can't. Her daughter lives around the corner, and is also a close neighbor. Our boys grew up together. I know I can't see her, because there is no way I could not hug her afte her dear mother has passed. I can't send over a casserole, or dinner. Can't go to a wake or funeral. The best I can think of is a gift card for a food place to order from, and a card. But that doesn't seem adequate. So, in these Covid times, what do I do?
I am so sorry for your loss. I think sending food over is a kind gesture.
