I remember a few times as a kid having Spam, but not often. I don't think my Mother liked it. I have always been ok with it and never understood the negativity of it. We eat things that are a lot more disgusting. Snails and Caviar come to mind immediately. I don't buy it often mostly because I never think about it, but I find it good for an occasional thing. The things I don't eat from my Childhood are clams, sardines, oysters, perch, canned salmon, blood pudding and head cheese.

Spam reminds me a little of corned beef. They're both kinda pressed meat (not sure what kind or kinds), and then they pack in some fat. Nope, it's just not for me. (As a kid, my mother tried it a few times, but we all hated it.) :cautious: (Yet, I understand if someone was poor and that was all they had, then of course, they'd eat it -- maybe even find a few creative ways to cook with it.) I'm not saying it's bad to eat, it just doesn't appeal to me.

My mom like loves corned beef. She likes Reuben Sandwiches. I usually have corned beef sandwiches on St. Patrick's Day.

Maybe you and @epcotisbest can answer what is so special about Spam. I don't get it at all. It's meat and worse it's meat in a can?

I guess I just like the taste, the spices are nice and it also tastes like ham. When it is fried and has a crispness on the outside but a little soft inside is when it is best. My mom used to fry it up in little chunks and make homemade mac and cheese with it (Spam casserole), and that was SUPER tasty! I still make it occasionally too. Spam casserole was one of the first meals I made for my hubs, he was very skeptical about Spam and made fun of it but then he ate the casserole and he was a convert.

I think my mom also bought Spam because it was cheap. Eating spam was more tasty then her special scalloped potatoes with canned tuna! (gag!)
