I read and could be wrong but I've seen you can't use adult credits for kids meals at qs locations.
Never saw solfege referred to as solfeggio? @Songbird76
How about here?

We have been to 7.
Grand Canyon in Arizona
Sequoia, Yosemite, and Redwoods in California
Great Smoky Mts in NC
Zion and Bryce Canyon in UT

Never been to N Michigan.
@Rista1313 lives in Michigan. Maybe she can help you? I have been to Yellowstone.
These are the US National Parks that I’ve been to...unfortunately, the last one was Big Bend in the summer of ‘77...!!!!!:cyclops::hilarious:

Yep.. kinda live here =D Been lots of places in the state, but I missed the rest of the conversation if there was one, what can I help you with?
Been to all of those. Forgot I have been to Gettysburg too.
I've been to the Grand Canyon National Park.

Lumping these all together for the next question- How much time did you spend at each?

And for those who have done multiple western parks- Which was your favorite?

@Rista1313 - Have you spent time on the upper peninsula of Michigan? Specifically, Pictured Rocks National Park and Isle Royale?

One of the members on the boards here did a trip report, last year maybe, about their visits to the National Parks with their 4th grader, seems like a cool program.

The project T has to do seems interesting, I like the planning a trip part. But I’m confused, so part of the project is that you travel to a National Park? Is that mandatory? Seems unfair and a financial burden to some families. What if they can’t travel to a National Park?

I’m going to have to find that trip report. Is it general chat or the regulartrip report section?

Yes, they have to visit one, or have visited one in the past. It also includes certain landmarks under the National Park umbrella, there’s a few that are close by.. without even needing to spend the night somewhere.

It’s 2 projects- One is planning and picking their preferences of the choices and why, and what they will see and do there- this can be any National Park in a US territory. That’s due next month.

The other one is writing about their experience at a National Park/s, details about said Park/s... not due until the first day of school. It doesn’t have to be from this year though, it can be any experience that they remember.

Edit- to be clear, the two reports do not have to be the same Park.

Who has been to National Parks, and which ones?

Also, has anyone been on a Northern Michigan park trip or even just a one spot vacay there?
I've been to quite a few. I have been to Lincoln's boyhood home....not sure if that's actually a national park, but I remember going there and seeing a replica of the cabin he grew up in, etc. I've been to Mammoth cave and the Louis and clark trail. I've been to the St Louis arch, though I don't remember much about it. I've been to Little Bighorn Battlefield many times growing up, but I think the last time I remember going there I was knee-high to a grasshopper. Chimney Rock, Scottsbluff, and POSSIBLY the homestead monument, though I'm not sure about that one. I've seen the Statue of Liberty from a boat. Badlands, Jewel cave, Wind Cave and Mount Rushmore, all many many many times. Bryce canyon and Zion national park. National mall and memorial parks (Lincoln, Washington memorials, etc). Devils Tower, Fort Laramie, the Tetons, Yellowstone...I've also been to a lot of other Forts and historical points of interest like Independence Rock, the Oregon trail wagon ruts, Sacagawea's grave, Fort Casper, Fort Bridger, Fort Fetterman....and there are probably more I don't remember. My mom was determined that we should visit significant places and learn about the history. And we went every couple of years to visit my mom's family in Illinois and we'd stop at places along the way....we did the same one year driving to Florida, and then when I was in college we drove to New York so I could sing in Carnegie Hall with one of the choirs I was in, and we went to DC. So I know I've been to a lot of places, some of which I don't remember completely. I remember touring a "mansion" somewhere of some historical figure, possibly a founding father, but I couldn't tell you whose. And we visited a lot of capitol buildings. The Lincoln boyhood home we went to, I'm not sure which one...there are several and my BEST guess is probably the one in Illinois because of my mom's family being in IL. But we also visited Mammoth Cave in Kentucky on our way to Florida, and there's also apparently a Lincoln site in Kentucky, too, and I thought we visited the Louis and Clark trail at the same time as we visited Mammoth Cave, but a google search is telling me that the Louis and Clark trail doesn't go through Kentucky, so I must have that mixed up in my brain...it was probably the same trip, but a different day. And I know we visited something in Tennessee, but I don't remember what. I also remember visiting a stage coach station somewhere, a mining museum, a fur trading post, some sod homes somewhere, and I am pretty sure we visited Fort Robinson in Nebraska, but that's apparently a State park, not national. So I've been a LOT of places. The ones in Wyoming and South Dakota I've been to several times because they are so close to where we lived, I think I've been to Yellowstone maybe 4 times, but we visited Devils Tower almost yearly, Mount Rushmore was several times a year, Badlands was whenever we drove back from Illinois, etc. Does that help you at all? I don't even know if I've actually been to Michigan.

I’ve been to quite a few. Yellowstone, Sequoia/Kings canyon and Joshua tree are a few favorite. Also loved Volcanoes and the Badlands in South Dakota.
I knew about this from another forum member who went to Yellowstone. You can also buy a pass good for one year that lets you into most national parks. I think it costs $80, but if you go to a few parks in that year, it's worth it. It lets in everyone in your car. Does the 4th grade pass let in the whole family? Anyway, if you plan to visit some parks, but you can't fit them all in in one year, you can buy a pass for another year. I'm planning to get one when we do our big Wyoming trip and I am trying to convince my husband we should drive from Wyoming to California and visit Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, etc and spend a couple of days at Disneyland. But the pass would get us into Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the grand canyon, Zion national park, etc. If we take a few weeks we could really make the pass worth the cost, and I SO want to see Disneyland!!

Yes, it’s $80 per year typically, for a family. I think the 4th grade thing is probably more to make kids and families aware of the different national parks, and encourage a visit...more than the savings.. but it’s still a nice gesture!

We drove from Yellowstone to Yosemite and a whole bunch of places in one trip . And Disneyland! Fun trip. Well actually we started driving from Wisconsin. 😀

Nice!! How long was this trip?

@Rista1313 - Have you spent time on the upper peninsula of Michigan? Specifically, Pictured Rocks National Park and Isle Royale?

The amount of time you'll spend really depends on you. You might consider the Junior Ranger program. Each park has a junior ranger thing and it's kind of like Wilderness Explorers in AK. You get a little booklet of things you need to find, questions you need to answer, etc. Once you complete it, you get a certificate or something. I think there were different ones for different age levels, but I'm not positive. Caves generally take a while because there will be various tours and you might have to wait for a tour group to get back before your tour starts, and there are also usually trails to hike in the area. It just depends on how much time you want to invest. We spend whole days at Mount Rushmore...there's so much to see and do. The Wagon Ruts didn't take much time at all...we did Independence Rock, the Wagon Ruts and...maybe a fort or two? in one day. But Fort Laramie was more expansive, so that took longer. Custer Battlefield (little bighorn) is the same way. There are walking trails and tours, there's a visitor's center, there's a cemetery, etc. But nothing says you have to do it all. Some things we stopped for an hour or two on the way to wherever we were going and other things we visited over multiple days. Make sure you pay attention to opening times though and I'd call in advance if you plan to do any sort of tour because the tours fill up fast in the Summer months and if you get there too late in the day, they might not have any spots left.

I can’t find the trip report under a search for “national parks” or “4th grade”. :(

Anyone remember the name of it?

Of the ones I circled on the map in my post, we spent at least one night (up to 3 nights) in Redwood, Yosemite, Sequoia, Rocky Mountain, and Big Bend. The others were day visits.

Also, here’s’ a more complete list of the National Park offerings, including, Monuments, Historical Sites, etc. The main National Parks are bolded.
I haven’t gone through the whole list of the non-bolded offerings, but, it would add many more to my list, including places like Fort Point National Historic Site and San Francisco National Recreation Area in California, and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and Padre Island National Seashore here in Texas...!!! :)

We have been to Grand Canyon three times-twice to South Rim and once North Rim. We spend two days. We always get a room close by so we can get more days to explore.
We’ve been to Zion twice. We stay in Springdale which is in the park. You can catch the shuttle to the park so no driving. Very good place to hike! This is a close tie to my fav Yosemite! We always stay 4-5 days.
We visited Bryce once when we stayed in Springdale. It’s about an 1-1 1/2 hr drive I think from there. DH wants to go back to explore it more. We only spent the day there.
Yosemite was special. We loved it! We stayed nearby so we could get two days in. Great hiking.
All the rest of the parks were one day trips.
The Redwoods were amazing.
All the parks are so nice. We did not dislike any of them.

I guess if you have National Parks or monuments nearby then it isn’t a hardship for families. In our area that would be a lot to ask. We don’t have much in the National Park system nearby. There are other historical things though. I would have loved doing those projects when I was in school.

Nice!! How long was this trip?

Our driving trip was a little over two weeks. We went to the following places:
Wisconsin to South Dakota: hit the Badlands and Mount Rushmore
South Dakota to Cody Wyoming: went to Devils Tower, Buffalo Bill Cody museum, a rodeo
Yellowstone: spent a couple nights there
Drove from Yellowstone to Yosemite in one day: spent the night at a town called Lee Vining and entered on the northern end of the park
Yosemite for a couple nights
Then San Francisco for a couple nights
Disneyland for a few nights
Drove to Grand Canyon and stayed at the El Tovar (on the canyon edge) for a night
Then drove home with one night in Nebraska when we were just too tired to keep going
