It was really good all around!
The sign was up by 3am. It won’t have electricity until tomorrow, but that didn’t matter in the daytime.
Ribbon cuttings are fun! We had the Mayor, Vice-Mayor, a Commissioner, and another guy who is running now all show up. That last guy and the mayor and myself (and Brian) all went to Local Government Academy together in 2016. (Rather than run for a seat, I took an appointment to an advisory board to the City Commission which just ended a couple of months ago.)
I finished pricing new arrivals early this morning, dropped them at the store at 10, and ran to the Publix with a Starbucks for one of those big thingies of coffee and some pastries. By the time I got back at almost 11, everyone was there, plus maybe a dozen regular customers. I was able to give them all nice vinyl box sets that we secured from Universal (oops!) and a couple other labels/distributors. They were happy with that and deserved it.
We did the ribbon cutting, took pics, the City people cleared out, and we had a great sales day! (Double the usual Friday, even with a lot of discounts.)
I was passed out in the couch by about 1:30, and then had to go to the other store. Sales there were the usual, which is great because that means it wasn’t cannibalized by the other store’s event.
I had the craziest feeling of calm, in the moment, on the drive to the other store. Not thinking about the next step, not stressing, just calm.
There will be plenty of scrambling to do come Monday for Black Friday, but for now, I’m just relieved, grateful, and trying to sleep.
