Well, I wish @donaldtoo was not on a cruise this week because I really could have used his sil's help since he works for Facebook. My dh's office debit card which was used to place ads on FB was hacked, and almost $7000 was charged between yesterday and today! He called the bank and they are looking into it and of course canceled his debit card. Cannot find any contact info for FB of course, and the one number I found was fishy. Someone picked up the call right away. No prompts, and said "Thank you for calling Facebook." What do you think @StarWarsGirl , @Cesar R M ? Any advice?
I'd have a few questions on this one:@StarWarsGirl Can FB be sued for not providing a contact number for businesses that use their ad services and end up having their banking info hacked?
1. Was the card used exclusively for Facebook ads?
2. Was the card just at home/in the office or did your DH carry it on him?
3. How was the card used after it was hacked?
Opinion:
If it was used elsewhere or he carried it with him, it's possible it could have been read while at a gas station or anywhere else. It tends to happen more to men than to women because men carry credit cards in their pockets and we typically carry purses, and it's harder to get a read from a purse.
It would be a long shot to take it up with Facebook. You would have to read their terms and conditions of purchase. There are probably clauses in there that prevent legal action, and you'd have to be able to prove that the result of the damages was as a result of negligence on Facebook's part.
$7000 would likely be considered grand larceny. Not that I think it would help, but it's worth reporting to the authorities.
