Well, I wish @donaldtoo was not on a cruise this week because I really could have used his sil's help since he works for Facebook. My dh's office debit card which was used to place ads on FB was hacked, and almost $7000 was charged between yesterday and today! He called the bank and they are looking into it and of course canceled his debit card. Cannot find any contact info for FB of course, and the one number I found was fishy. Someone picked up the call right away. No prompts, and said "Thank you for calling Facebook." What do you think @StarWarsGirl , @Cesar R M ? Any advice?
@StarWarsGirl Can FB be sued for not providing a contact number for businesses that use their ad services and end up having their banking info hacked?
I'd have a few questions on this one:
1. Was the card used exclusively for Facebook ads?
2. Was the card just at home/in the office or did your DH carry it on him?
3. How was the card used after it was hacked?

Opinion:

If it was used elsewhere or he carried it with him, it's possible it could have been read while at a gas station or anywhere else. It tends to happen more to men than to women because men carry credit cards in their pockets and we typically carry purses, and it's harder to get a read from a purse.

It would be a long shot to take it up with Facebook. You would have to read their terms and conditions of purchase. There are probably clauses in there that prevent legal action, and you'd have to be able to prove that the result of the damages was as a result of negligence on Facebook's part.

$7000 would likely be considered grand larceny. Not that I think it would help, but it's worth reporting to the authorities.

As always, this is a disclaimer: I am not an attorney; I just live with one. The above is my opinion and is not intended as legal advice. If you believe you have a case, you should consult with an attorney.

So the amounts were in increments of $250 first, and then went up. Here are screen shots of the amounts from their billing page.
It shows up on his bank account as being directly billed from Facebook. The phone number next to where it says Facebook actually works, but when you push #1 for customer service, it states “Sorry, fb doesn’t answer customer service calls at this time”. 😡😡😡

Cute cats.
For your other questions. It is his business debit account, so it is used for business transactions. As I said the charges came directly from FB. Meanwhile if he ever had a monthly advert bill for $15, that was a lot. I contacted my Congressman. Said there should be a way for customers to be able to contact those who they do business with easily. Oh, and while trying to find help on this, I saw other help posts with people asking what they should do about their credit cards being hacked from FB. The only answer found was to stop your credit card. What about the charges that were incurred??? Does your dad want to take on a class action lawsuit? Sort of kidding, and sort of not.

If you were in Maryland, I'd give you his info, but you're in Pennsylvania, so your best bet is to consult a lawyer up there.

And yup, it's grand larceny. The amount for being considered a felony in PA is $2,000; I looked it up. Again, bring it to an attorney who can help determine what legal resources up there you can use.

Oh, and as my non-legal advice, this is why you should NOT use debit cards. For a credit card, if you see fraudulent charges, you report them and that's it; you don't pay it. Debit cards, as you have seen, can be hacked and wipe your account clean. I have my debit card stuffed in a drawer in my room for that reason.

What a crappy day today.... DH woke up with horrible arm pain.... which is scary, because the first thing you think of is heart attack. He said it felt like contractions though. Took him to the ER, and they quickly diagnosed that it was NOT a heart attack, but it was getting worse and he was starting to have shooting pains in his legs. (this happens with his type of backpain, but I think it was worse because he was anxious, hadn't slept and was in pain. )

They took labs and decided one of the problems might be that his magnesium was low, so they put him on a magnesium drip for 2 hours... and they gave him a shot of muscle relaxer to help things calm down.

2 hours later he was finally falling asleep in between stupid alarms going off... and I knew his pain was lessening. We are home now... and he's sleeping.... we honestly think it was nerves in his back causing the pain... but the ER isn't there to diagnose, only get some pain relief and send you back to your own doc.

No pain relievers for Scott because he's already go to see a pain management doctor... so they don't ever want to mess with that.

Anyway... just venting a bit... Even though I slept all night these events always make me so tired.
Hope it gets better soon

omg!!! Something’s going on. I deleted all card info from my phone, changed all my passwords. My card was a debit and it’s like they could see what was in it.. the charge left me with an exact $0.00 balance.

I can’t belive it happened to 2 of us in the same day!!

I think I'll go check my bank.... even though I exclusively use a credit card for online purchases, and my credit union is usually great at spotting fraud charges... I think I'll check anyway...

Good morning! At 5:48am this morning I saw you gave me a "like" re. a post from last night. The alert told me you had done that 40 something minutes before I saw it.
Hey! You are retired, but you are up and posting around 5:30am?🥴😂
When the day comes that I retire, I think I'll sleep a little bit later than that! ;)

I'm a morning person. I love waking up early (anywhere from 4 AM - 6 AM, at the latest.) :D

That's really scary. Sorry that happened to you, not to mention @MySmallWorldof4 's dh's business debit card incident with the ads.

(This is why I still prefer to use regular cash for many local purchases. We're certainly living in crazy times with so much theft going on.)

Agree -- I NEVER use a debit card. Ever.
I think I only use one when I get groceries. Going to use credit card from here on after all this is happening! 😟

this is the smart thing to do.. and what I used to do to rack up points. But I’ve been trying to do debit only for almost 2 years now, with the exception of certain times when I do get double/triple points. I had 3 cards in my phone.. only the debit was hacked. So crazy.

I’m going to stop using Apple Pay for a while., and I’m definitely not going to link my debit card to it again.

I am done with the debit cards. Actually am going to file a complaint with the DOJ. They have an online form. There were so many charges though that it will take an hour. 😔

I'm neither a morning person or a night owl. On a non-school night I'll go to bed between 11:30 and midnight and on a non work day I'll get up between 9am and 9:45am.
My wife will almost always sleep until 12 noon on a Saturday!
We go to bed at 11 weeknights so DH can get up for work at 6 am. I get up around 8 ish. On weekends, we get up at 8 and go to bed around 12 midnight. We both definitely cannot sleep past 8:30 on weekends. Never have slept in.😉
