I agree, I am not a teetotaler, I've had my share of shady evenings, but, to me a free bar is the same as a free cigarette bar, or a free heroin bar. Alcohol is a drug and as such many have a desire for it. So since alcohol is legal I have no problem with having some available, but, I ain't payin for it. Just me, but, if friends and family cannot spend a few hours together without getting hammered, I'm not interested in supplying the juice.I know it's considered tacky, but we did a cash bar. I honestly don't see what the problem is with it. I shouldn't have to pay for people to get trashed, which as you stated, opens up additional issues. We paid for softdrinks, plus we had punch. So there were plenty of options, and if people didn't feel they could have fun without some booze, they could spring for it themselves. The cash bar definitely did not deter people from drinking, and everyone had a great time. I'm not a huge drinker myself, but I didn't want to tell people they couldn't have alcohol....they are adults, they can decide for themselves. But you can't bring it in, you had to buy it there, so we just did the cash bar for those who wanted to imbibe.
