Up here in the North, some people even remove their batteries at night during long, seriously cold spells (like zero for 8 days in a row). The battery stays warm in the house overnight, and the next morning, they hook it up again and the car starts immediately. It's inconvenient, but luckily we don't have many long subzero cold snaps.

Also I heard today that the auto supply stores keep running out of batteries, because a lot of people were replacing theirs this past week. (Ours was new last summer.)
That was a good thing to do back when cars were primative, but, today with all things connect to a computer, taking out the battery completely on a daily basis can throw everything off kilter. Batteries are a little weaker when cold, but, ignition systems are a lot different now, and disconnecting the battery every night can cause some problems Unless something is wrong with the battery a new one should last 5 to 6 years. If I still lived in that climate I would install a circulating water heater so that when you go to start the car in the morning the engine is somewhat warm already. You get internal heat quicker as well.

Can't argue with that. We don't remove ours, but again, ours is only about 6 months old. I brought up the nightly removal of the battery (only in a long bitter cold snap) because it made the local news again tonight.

Today I finally had my long awaited appointment with the cardiologist. For those who might not remember past circumstances, I was recommended to a cardiologist back in October after I underwent cataract surgery on my right eye. During the procedure my heart recorded an irregular beat. Possible AFIB was the question. My 2nd cataract surgery was then postponed.

The cardiologist visit today was very thorough. However, I have not been officially diagnosed as having AFIB. I still need a few more tests. A stress test, and a 48 hour Holter monitor. My recent electrocardiogram, and echocardiogram, have all been normal.

I officially put off my cataract surgery until sometime in the Spring. The Cardiologist was more than willing to give me clearance, but why the rush? Chicago weather is brutal, and I'd be the unlucky one to wake up surgery morning to a foot of snow on the ground, or below zero temps, and a blizzard. So I'm waiting.

I really liked the cardiologist. We touched on all angles of this entire scenario, and we may end up discovering this has all just been one huge mistake. However, I'll sleep better at night knowing what I don't have. So keep your fingers crossed for some more good test results.

Guess the kids all get bundled up like Randy in "A Christmas Story" then.;) Hopefully the schools are all nice and toasty.

The school was a lot warmer than I thought it would be. When I came home the temperature gauge said it was 12 degrees, it was practically a heat waves.

It's 3 degrees today. THREE. We're heading into the negative degrees this week, not including windchill. I normally like the winter, but having just come home from Orlando, I'm having a hard time with it this year :hilarious::hilarious:

Trip report writing took so much time! I've got 17 pages to catch up on here

Yep spending a couple of days in warmer weather is enough to lose your cold weather tolerance for awhile.

On Saturday I visited Den Bosch, the city I was born in.
I ate a Bosche Bol which is a large profiterole filled with sweetened cream and topped with chocolate ganache.

With a very full tummy I walked to the market, as long as I can remember the town has had a market on Wednesday mornings and all day Saturday. The flower stalls are my favorite as I love the smell.
You can also buy fruit and vegs, fabric, cheese, meat, fish and an assortment of other things.

My next stop was the St.Jan cathedral.

No visit to Den Bosch is complete without stopping by Tum Tum, a candy shop that hasn't changed in over 80 years.

Looks like an awesome place. I would love that profiterole, and the candy store looked great too.
