I line baking sheets with parchment, split them, rub with evoo, and stuff with a mixture of cranberries, stevia(half will get brown sugar if I make them for a holiday), walnuts and raisins, sometimes chopped apples if I have a bunch. They also bake and mash up quite nice. Once in a while I'll peel, cube them and roast alone or with other veggies. They can be baked and turned into pie. Pretty much pumpkin, butternut and acorn squash can be swapped out for each other in recipes.
I love your ideas. Is Acorn squash easier to chop up? I couldn't do anything with the butternut squash, hubby had to help me.

Not looking for sympathy, but, the fact is that all travel loses something when you do it alone. It can be fun, but, there is always the element of something special missing. Take advantage whenever you can, to make memories. I have plenty. I have never been wealthy, but, I have been lucky. My memories of trips, even closely budgeted ones, are all wonderful to think about, and I do, but, the actual experience is what life is all about.

Actually, I've always liked traveling alone. I also love traveling with hubs, but he's not into Disney. So I'm glad I can have fun no matter whether I'm with him or by myself. I think the difference for you is that a lot of your travels were with family years ago, so you can relate more to those travel experiences.

They are not the cutest creatures for sure. Nasty little things. We had a groundhog go onto our deck last year when I had lettuce and broccoli growing in some planters. I thought they were cute until then. Loads of beautiful lettuce and broccoli got chomped.

Yah, never mess with them. One time, my hubs cornered one (accidentally) while he was out in an overgrown brush area of a parking lot. That thing hissed at him and looked like something out of a horror movie--hubs yelled out and ran so fast out of there, away from the evil opossum! :hilarious: I saw the whole thing . . . :p

With people being who they are I would never stop for people

That's a safe approach--you have to be careful. I think I'd stop, but only if others around also stopped to help. (Safety in numbers.)

And if others weren't around, but I had a hunch the breakdown (or whatever) was legit, I'd pull over and call the cops, and have them come with help. I think that's a reasonable compromise.

Us too. We don't have the bin, yet but by the time it comes around we are giving almost everything away. Getting ready to move and downsize to little. We will be donating all furniture to Salvation Army and driving away with the clothes on our backs. I hope we go where we won't need boots, heavy coats and so on. Enough cold and snow for me!

I hate tha
Well, it was sort of fun . . . but, I left after an hour. Used to go to this event off and on for many years. Even up to a few years ago, it was more small vendors (cottage businesses, mom & pop's, individual artisans, knitters, craft jewelers, etc.) Used to always seek out a mother/daughter team that made stained glass items--beautiful work.

Anyway, now it's many more professional vendors with bigger, fancier displays, and they're coming in from other states--some quite a distance. Vendors pay the WTC anywhere from a low of $200, to over $1,200 for table space and location (many pay in the upper $600's to over a thousand).

I "get" that it's the city and everything is way more expensive than outside city limits, but the door fee per person, for the public to get in, has gone up to $15.00 ($13.00 if you have a coupon), and it's only for one day. Some other craft fairs "might" charge a door fee, but it will cover 2 days, if you want to think about something--and go back the next day to buy it. So the smaller vendors are getting priced out of the big city event. And it was the smaller vendors that were way more interesting.

So what did I buy? Well, they had a fireman whose firehouse guys made hot sauce and sold it (I think he probably got a break on his little table, because it was a charity for firefighters' family relief funds). I bought a bottle and will put it in hubs' Chrismas stocking. Then I left.
I hate that everything is bigger . Bigger is not always better. Those charges are crazy. I did some crafts in the 80's and the table was 10.00$ no matter what you had. People got in for free, if they bought one thing....2.00$ if they didn't buy anything. I'm not fond of the "new" expensive "normal".

Two years! Hubby is looking at condo's with everything provided....no more yard work, gutter work, keeping up the painting ( over 27 foot high) me....on a ladder....no more. And so many other things....hubby is keeping up with the driveway, and gutters. But he hates being on a ladder .....so he is ready to move.....about time....we were supposed to live the last few years of my pick....I went where ever his job took us. Now, I'm picking somewhere warm (Florida....here we come). No property taxes. So hubby is in!
