We officially had 70 in my area (although my car said 72). It was GLORIOUS!!!!

Again, too hot for me, but glad you enjoyed it.

I was just wondering what the temperature is where Goofyernmost's ship is sailing?

Waaayy too warm for this time of year. I keep waiting for consistent, cold, crisp weather.

Halloween was low key--trick or treaters stopped by for candy up until 8 p.m. Our dog barked at all of them like they were all intruders!

How about you? It was a Saturday night, and I can't imagine you stayed home!

Ha ha. At least you have a dog instead of two chicken black cats who fled to hide under the bed for the night.

Oh the joys of domestic bliss. Was home all night handing out candy to the Trick 'r Treaters. We did flee around 9, but just to get pizza. And naturally, with the World Series being on and it being Halloween, our curse remained in tact - we were the last ones in the restaurant. Argh.

It's funny. Before we had kiddos, I used to sleep like a ton a' lead bricks. Once we had kiddos, I would wake at every little noise, and still do.
DWifey, on the other hand, has always slept like I used to.
It even takes me a while to wind down at night. DWifey's head hits the pillow and she's out cold in 30 seconds.
Go figure...

Of course--you and Phil are always the last ones in any restaurant--why should it be any different on Halloween??!!

Sorry that your team did not win for you. Although I don't follow baseball, I have cousins in N.Y. who has supported the Mets for an eternity; I felt bad for them, too, when the Mets lost. Well, you know, there's always next year!

Some of us are born into our families and some of us have to go find them. I've got a little bit of both going on and that's ok. As long as we realize that we don't have give someone more respect than they deserve just because they are related, it will be all good.

Agreed.
And, how lucky I am to have had both in my life is definitely not lost on me.

Yep...well, my dad is 82 now, so he's quite...old-fashioned (and very misogynistic) and he brought me to his lawyer to talk about the future. I was 14 and he had his lawyer talk to me about my desire to go to college, because women don't belong in higher education. The only thing a woman needs from college is to find a husband to support her and even if a women does manage to make it through college without getting married, her degree is worth nothing, because she is female and it's a man's world. The only jobs fit for a woman are teaching, nursing, and secretarial work. Needless to say, my father wasn't willing to contribute to my education.

ugh.... I still do not understand that dumb mentality.
Its almost like the racial thing against blacks. Its like some men feel their position of "top person" is somehow endangered if they let other groups gain more liberty or opportunities.

Wow! I'm glad I didn't have that growing up. I think if I would have grown up in another time I would have been one of those trouble making suffragettes. One of my room mates in college that that view of college is a place to meet a man, not get an education. She actually flunked out of college because when her boyfriend broke up with her she stopped going to classes. She didn't know what to do with herself now that she didn't have a man. It disgusted me and I had very little sympathy for her, she wasted a lot of money for nothing.

I started looking for a new sewing machine it's driving me up a wall! It's not easy trying to figure out the bells and whistles I need vs. the ones I want vs. what I can afford. Now I'm trying to see if going with a simple embroidery/sewing combo might be the way to go. There's one basic combo with some Disney designs built in. I'm afraid if I got that one there'd be Figment or Olaf on everything I own Come to think of it that may not be a bad thing

My pop actually has a few old sewing machines. Learned from both his mom and pop. Clothing and leather goods.

Well it will be cooling into the 40's later this week so back to normal temps for November here. It should be interesting to here about Goofyernmost's transatlantic cruise. That is something I would like to do for sure.

Meh. It's just the nature of the job. I am taking one vacation day on the 27th this year though because it works in with my ordinary days off + the 25th, giving me 3 days off in the row. But typically, my vacation time is in the summer. I'm sure this is true for lots of people, no?

Our firm actually shuts down for a week between Christmas and New Years, based on when the dates fall.

Yes, depending on the type of business, especially, it makes sense. I'm in architecture, and most clients are so busy with family stuff and traveling that there's no point in us being open. It's pretty dead business-wise.

That is very lucky. I think a lot of time it depends on what you do. For me, holidays are very important work days. (But I do get 29 days of paid vacation a year so I can hardly complain.) And I know in retail, inventory happens a lot at the end of the year. In other professions, there are other needs then. So long as you know these things when you sign on, it shouldn't be a problem.

Yep, retail is quite the different animal.
I had never worked retail in my entire life until I was laid off in January of '09 from the architectural firm I will be back with full-time for 3 years now in February. I was initially with them for 20+ years.
The first retail job I had and the last one I left was our local Disney Store after 4+ years. I had as many as 3 jobs at a time. The Disney Store, Batteries+, Kay Jewelers, Calendar Club/Go games and Toys, a men's clothing store (the one that I still cover occasional closing shifts for), and then 10 months of contract work from home before the firm hired me back full-time.
I remember going as long as 3 months without a full day off. It was nuts.
But, I sure did learn a lot, especially about myself, and I wouldn't trade that for anything.
