Yes they come back unfortunately. Mostly a nuisance. Just keep pulling them up by the roots. You may have to re-mulch. I usually do by the time I get them all pulled.

One of my brothers lives in North Carolina. They have those there. He calls them "boppers" and he despises seeing them on his lawn. By the way, boppers is his word -- not the actual name of them! :hilarious:

You may not feel the same, but.. to me wild strawberries and violets sound very pretty!

I’m going to have to do sod, is that what you’re doing? There’s too many stupid critters and deer that eat the grass seed. (They have also taken every single one of my tomato’s this year). There’s a side area that I’ll have to do, but I’m really hoping it will be contained to that area and the back. The stupid ridges from the huge equipment is of big importance to correct, that will have to be done first. I think it’s called “rolling out” (I’m not a lawn expert at all lol)
I’m always scared that T or a neighbor kid will turn an ankle while playing out there. He really only uses a portion of the yard now.
They are pretty until they take over all the grass.😜
No we rake the soil, put out grass seed for our area, fertilizer, and straw on top to keep the birds from the seed. We planted some a couple of weeks ago, and it is already getting green.
Wow it must be really hilly. That’s a pain trying to mow.

I will pull weeds, but I won’t mow. 😂. I did not do a weekly lawn service this year due to the mess and the grass.. I have a 16 year old neighborhood kid doing the mowing this summer, he hasn’t complained, I guess maybe the ridges don’t have too much of an impact on the cutting. It’s a new 0 turn mower though (I think that’s what they’re called), so I don’t know if that makes a difference.
I have had a company come to lay seed regularly.. but the deer and chipmunks keep getting it. It’s just a sad looking yard now.

I believe the older millennial aren't as bad as the younger ones, I'm guessing your kids are older. My husbands kids are millennial and boy are they pieces of work. My husband only got to raise them part time in their informative years. Trying to instill hard work in them was impossible with screens in their face all the time. I actually remember one weekend I made them go outside, and they didn't know what to do with themselves, they sat on the stoop and whined.

But you are right.... lumping them in one category isn't exactly correct either.

I remind my husband all the time, that our parents thought we were idiots too, and I think we are pretty ok.

I say pre internet millennial and post internet, we should be divided up. I think early 90s, it started to get commercialized. Smartphones started to get popular with the new generation, I believe.

But, the new generation coming into the workforce has no common sense. Well, every generation but...

I think people are starting to realize that it's not that they don't want to work, it's that they don't want to work the same way we do. Which makes sense because technology has changed everything. For example though, we have flex schedules at work, so everyone can choose their own 40 hours as long as their boss agrees to it. Almost everyone older than a millennial works a straight shift. My in between generation works a lot of AWE, which is work from home. So we'll work four days in the office, and one day at home. But the young ones, they get creative. They work from coffee shops or other cities sometimes even.

Which is neat to see because we've been able to reduce our necessary desk space by almost 50% in some areas because when they do come in the office they can share transient desks.

They work. They just work differently.

Interesting perspective you shared. It was well written, and thank you for that. :)

Generally speaking, each generation tends to take issue with the generation that follows them. My parents were the same way, and their parents also had their complaints.

As you stated, the technology end of things has made a major impact upon businesses, and how employees (in certain situations, work with flex hours, etc. -- once approved by their employer). And you're right that millennials have basically grown up with technology at the forefront, of pretty much everything they're involved in. Technology expertise is an excellent skill to have when they enter the workforce.

Yet, what I've noticed from time to time (with "some" millennials) is a certain disconnect with the other part of the equation. I think that some of them believe that they can work for a company, but assume that the company will let them make their own rules from day one on the job -- flex hours, working off-site, extra time off, etc. (Note: Nothing against flex hours or working off site, for companies that have approved it, and had success with this model.) But looking back at my own generation, you just did what the boss said to do, and rarely had additional requests.

Where I worked, flex hours, working from home, etc., would have never been allowed as everyone in our office was needed there full-time, and we worked our butts off, supporting each other as well. Before I retired, a woman in her 20s joined the office. She flat out didn't want to work on Fridays and whined about a friend of hers (in another company) that had a keg of beer in the office on Fridays. She didn't last long, by the way. ;) However, we also had another 20-something person join the office, who was excellent and the salt of the earth. :)

Maybe a big part of this (as @donaldtoo shared) is more about how you are raised -- with good role models, knowing the value of work, etc.). Regardless of any generation, maybe that's the real answer here.

I should clarify something.. I don’t mow because I don’t have the time, and secondarily I don’t think I would make lines as neat as the professionals.. the 16 year old doesn’t do diagonals in the front like I’ve always had before, but he does do straight lines.
Prior to living here, I was in Florida. No way would I have had the patience or want to do the yard and other landscaping in the heat.

That’s why I’ve never mowed. T will, as soon as he is in high school. 😂
