I'm not really a fan of United, but it's either fly them and go or it's not go because Delta (my preferred) is $400 more.

They just had it the best this time. I can get on the plane and be on it and land in Hawaii at 1:00 pm local time, and then have most of my day, and then coming back, I end up in Denver (which really is not a bad airport) and then back to Baltimore.

Plus, the 10 hour flight means the huge international jet, which means more room.

Southwest is usually preferred because they do two free checked bags, free drinks, and free snacks (they don't serve meals). You don't end up with hidden fees unless you do something stupid, like pack your suitcase above 30 pounds.

The airline I absolutely refuse to fly and wouldn't even look at was American.
funnily, I also hated American until they finally removed their ancient MD80's and extended MD90's from operation.
I felt their service was better than United.
And definitively better priced.

But then it will be obvious considering how different our flight patterns are.
I'm always coming from Mexico and the most usual hubs that are gateways to the USA.. are Dallas Forth Worth (American), Houston (United), and Phoenix (Delta I think).
And.. well.. you fly a lot on USA only territory.

Let me just say that it is a terrible idea, especially when you live in a colder state. The kids don't get to enjoy the warmer weather long enough. They should start right after Labor Day. Our kids in public school get out the end of May or first week of June. The problem is is that the weather is still cool. The pools around here that offer swim lessons are not even heated. Sorry but my kids are not going to jump in a pool in the morning when the temperature is still in the 60's and the pool water is in the 50's. I am wondering if the push to start earlier is a way to start year round schooling. That may be something @ajrwdwgirl may have a clue about.

You made me smile. The Mom of 2 competitive swimmers collectively for almost 20 years between them. In the summer swimming is outside from the weekend before Memorial Day. They'd be in the water at 545 am each morning until 8 am. The heaters clicked on at 530am and was warm by 9am or 10 am depending on the weather. They'd be long gone. It was cold. Some early morning days the temps were in the 50s. They did swim faster the colder the water was, the end goal of the sport to be the first to hit the wall.

I believe the coping skills of all kids widely vary. Same with School calendars. My kids until the last 2 years where they each had a car stood out on bus corners waiting for buses in rain, heat and snow along with nasty winds. As a Mom at times the conditions were not good and I felt bad for them but such is life. It did toughen them up early in life. I cheered when we went to the Colligete School schedule. No homework over Winter Break, No final packet study guides over winter break. It was awesome to have a real break without homework looming over.

United allows preboarding for allergic passengers and can inform those around them not to open packs of peanuts. Oh, and I'll have to request any flowered leis be put away in baggage for rows around me as well. You're supposed to put the leis into the ocean when you leave because it signals you'll be back...if you bring them with you, you're signalling you're leaving forever, but I found out the hard way that a lot of people leave them out. American definitely wouldn't accommodate.

Routes are definitely different in the US, but I've been to a lot of different airports within the US (BWI, Washington Dulles, Honolulu, Orlando MCO, Atlanta, Charleston SC, Minneapolis St. Paul, San Diego, LAX, Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, and Albuquerque). But since BWI is my home airport, I usually base my plans on that airport. Southwest is the largest...it's a hub for them. The other airlines are usually more expensive and might not have the route, so it's usually automatic for me.

We flew AA once from MAN to PHI return.
Never again ...

I ran across this on You Tube and I thought you guys might find it humorous. Sorry, if you have already heard it.

Super funny.
Our schools were legally mandated to go until June 15 and then went back after Labor Day. Then politics happened and that's no longer a rule (though my guess is it will probably end up being a general vote). Our county is still starting after Labor Day. That's the way most people seem to want it here. Our state has its tourism primarily in the summer (especially Ocean City) and for economic reasons, it's better to have the long summer.
Here, schools would go back in session the week before Labor Day. Then about 3 years ago, they switched it to 2 weeks before Labor Day. That was a decision made in March or April after parents already had made summer vacation plans. Many here do go to OC. My neighbor was very angry because they had rented a condo for a week. I had teacher friends who had no idea this was coming. Now everyone is used to it. It did screw up the businesses that year like our gym that runs summer activities for kids.

What's the deal with gasoline prices?
My local Wawa gas station is charging $2.55 for regular this morning :(
We are at $2.65. It was 20 or 30 cents cheaper a couple if weeks ago. At least we get gas points at our supermarket and Sheetz and Rutter’s stores. Soon they will say that the summer mix is coming and it costs more to make it.

I have a Visa card linked with my Costco membership that gives 3% points on all gasoline, not just theirs. Even so, there is:1) no news about unrest effecting oil production. 2)No hurricanes or natural disasters have knocked out anything relating to the gasoline industry. So...I guess it is just world supply and demand that allows the prices to keep climbing.

Midway is nice inside. But yes we do have to go outside and do the local streets a good ways before we can get on 290. Flying out we are in a car at 3am and home after midnight. What you see out in the streets and coming to windows asking for handouts at that hour is not in my comfort range. I've never been through Midway in daylight hours. Ohare is very different. While legally Chicago it doesn't come close to touching Chicago proper. It is nestled in by 2 counties, DuPage and Cook. I am as comfortable driving to Ohare at all hours of the morning and night as I was when I worked for United right out of college. My Mom is 2 towns over, I drive it all the time. I can't say I want to do that around Midway, so not my comfort level.

I can understand that... I know even in the daylight.. when I lived there 25 years ago.. people coming up to try and wash my window by the freeway would make me super uncomfortable. I hated driving in Chicago (still do) luckily way back then my (ex) husband would drive. Born and raised in Oak Park, he was good at getting around (pre GPS) I was not as good!

We ended up getting only 7 inches of snow. The snow pile in the front yard is now a mini-mountain. It reminds me of the Matterhorn at Disneyland. We are going to be getting rain tomorrow night through Thursday, so a lot will melt but probably flood in places too. :bored:

I think that teens would really like Space Mt (much better than the WDW one), Matterhorn and Indiana Jones. In DCA they would probably love Incredicoaster, Guardians Mission Breakout, and Radiator Springs. I doing a year-long trip report, feel free to check it out. Right now it is mostly about holiday related stuff from our November/Thanksgiving trip but there are other non-holiday things too. If you have specific questions or want a specific picture just let me know.

Here's a link to my trip report.

My folks (mom will be 80 on April 15th, and pop turned 86 on Jan. 1st) have Androids.
They can both text, although they rarely do, and pop uses his for internet and email.
They also have an office at home with a desktop, and they have a laptop. This time of year pop also has 2 loaner laptops for volunteering to help other elderly folks with their taxes...! :)
My Mom has a laptop but only downloads pictures from her camera. 🤦 She doesn’t know how to use the Internet. She has no interest to learn.

I never tought they would convince him to get back.
RM is in shambles.. and Bale was an overpriced prima dona that never delivered.
Hopefully he will get PROPER reinforcements and remove the torns that are destroying the team.

I’m not a RM fan, but do love Gareth Bale. I hope he does a quick turnaround.
I’m a huge Zidane fan. Didn’t see this coming at all. I’m surprised by the return. T is thrilled! He said “We’re back see ya at El Classico, mom. You’re going DOWN” 😂😂🤣

T hopes that Navas will be starting GK again under Zidane... I’m not too sure that will happen.

So, Jack the problem dog, did something bizarre and new, even for him, today. When I rushed out to work this morning, there were 2 bananas on the table. Came home tonight, and didn't see them, so I asked hubs if he ate 2 bananas? He said no.

We then found on the floor, just the top stems of 2 bananas . . . :cautious: . . . and nothing else. That means that the dog climbed up on the table and dragged down TWO bananas and ATE them -- PEEL and all!!! :jawdrop: :jawdrop:
Leaving steak on the floor will stop his quite understandable behavior! You need to be reported to the ASPCA!
