Mount Washington hit a wind gust of 144 mph (231 kph) yesterday.

Currently, the second-highest surface wind speed ever officially recorded is 372 km/h (231 mph; 103 m/s) at the Mount Washington (New Hampshire) Observatory: 6,288 ft (1917 m) above sea level in the US on 12 April 1934. I honestly find that amazing considering all the other big mountains out there.
I climbed to the top of Mt. Washington once. Didn’t feel the need to do it again. I think that was the last hiking trip I ever did. I ached for a week afterwards.

We pay a one time sales tax at purchase (6.25%), $18.50 for yearly inspection (new cars begin after 2 years), and $51.75 for yearly registration.
Like us. We pay a sales tax when we purchase, then the yearly registration, and yearly inspection. It was the same when I lived in NY and NJ. It has been 20 years since I have lived in NY, so that may have changed.

Good for you. That is one heck of a hike, no matter what trail you take. I hiked up halfway, once. Also, I've taken the Cog Railway up there a few times. I really like Mt. Washington.

Took the cog once and the van twice. Lots of fun.

OMG! I completely forgot about the van!! Yes, I took the "stage" once, too. Sat right next to the driver and had a great discussion up and back. I wish I could recall what he said about the stage (vehicle) -- something about a different set of brakes installed on them. Those stages are more than the average van, even though they may not look like it at first glance.

Yes! I remember hearing about the brakes. The one driver mentioned that loads of people burn out their brakes on the drive down.
