I’m whining, but I don’t want to make the entire season sound horrible, we have had some fun!.. just not as much as in past years.

I usually take the day after Christmas off from work.. Christmas Day is hectic for us, parents for brunch with the siblings, and then an aunt’s house with a bunch of cousins and their young kids.

The 26th is always a day for me, my kid, and my dog. Going thru presents and playing with them. This was a shock being informed that I wouldn’t be able to do that this year, when it was already planned.

Edit (after reading this later)- I hate how “poor me” this looks..Yuk. I’m shrugging that attitude off. Moment of weakness out of frustration, it has passed. :)
I get it. When the kids were little, it seems like there was a lot of Christmas activities and things that were must do's. This year just doesn't have that Holiday feel. DS, once we stopped going to my parents, isn't a big fan. DD with her burgeoning social life, now has plans with this friend or that friend. She wanted me to take her to do some Christmas shopping at Target last night. I was legitimately excited. And then, I realized, how sad, I am this excited about a Target run. But, so far, it is the only Christmas-y thing we have done together.

I'll be sure to treasure this christmas more now. We have plans christmas eve to watch some christmas movies from a blanket fort, drink lots of hot chocolate, bring treats to our neighbors, make bird seed pinecone ornaments for our nature christmas tree tradition, and maybe open a present. Then on christmas we'll open stockings, eat breakfast, open presents, and then decide what toys she's ready to donate. We donate after Christmas every year.

I'll have it in the back of my mind..... it could only be a trip to Target. But honestly, I'd be pretty excited about that too!

That sounds like so much fun!

Cherish these days for sure. I keep looking back at my “FB memories” full of Christmas crafts and Christmas stuff... Blink and it’s over, or greatly reduced.

Oh I haven't done that since I was a little girl... sounds like messy fun!

We do this every year. There's a really cute christmas book about a family that goes out in the woods and decorates a tree like this. We don't do it in the woods though because I'm dumb and I used hot glue to attach the twine, so I like to be able to monitor the ornaments.
