Wow! I’ve never heard of that!

How do you (and her) feel about the schedule compared to more traditional? Any pros or cons that you’ve noticed?
Mostly positive thoughts. When I was in school I probably had 8 classes in a day. If 6 of the 8 teachers gave homework I was soo busy! My daughter has 4 classes ....3 academic and one block is musical: Band and Chorus alternate. Band Monday, Chorus Tuesday , Band Wed. etc. etc. The next week Chorus goes first....etc. etc. Anyway, with this college style block scheduling more learning is accomplished in the 80 minute learning blocks and she typically has 1.5 to 2 hours homework.....BUT if there is a test the next day she will study forever. That is why I always hope for the books to go in the backpack by 11pm if possible.

Very interesting. Thanks for the info!

Yay for getting out early. Sorry about your poor head.
Thanks. It's partially my fault; I stayed over my friend's apartment last weekend and we didn't do much sleeping, and I haven't really caught up this week. I can't sleep in tomorrow, but Sunday...yeah, so sleeping in on Sunday.

I'm currently working in one of the shared offices with the lights out. Work's coffee bar also has Starbucks products, so I got a latte. Both are helping until I can go home and soak my poor head in the bathtub.

I hate to say but she's got to start making her own decisions as far as scheduling her time goes. Before long she'll be off to college where you won't be there to guide her. Trust you've raised her properly. Good luck to both of you
That's pretty much what I was going to say. You have to trust that you've prepared her to make her own decisions and have good judgment. My mom didn't let me make decisions (or mistakes) and I couldn't WAIT to get away from home, and I made some pretty big mistakes (like getting engaged to someone I had no business even dating) because I wasn't going to let my mom tell me what to do anymore. At a certain point, you become more of an advisor...someone they can talk it out with and can steer them in the right direction. If it becomes a problem, you can always step in. But all those activities also look great on college applications, scholarship applications, etc. I'd say negotiate the terms (grades, chores, other activities, homework, etc) and as long as she meets her end of the deal, let her do it.

St. Nicholas Day is December 6th. He’s different from Santa. He leaves a stocking of fruit and goodies and a few small toys and a book. (At least in my House)

It’s not a day for bigger presents, and it’s not supposed to be from Santa’s list. T was thrilled, but of course said “It’s weird that St Nick brought me gifts that I asked for from Santa, right?”

Ugh. Huge mistake on my part. Especially since he just had a block of last semester dedicated to 12 Saints, and then a large test on them just before Thanksgiving.
You know they are actually based on the same historical figure, right? Santa is short for "Saint Nicholas". That's why they have all the Christmas carols with like...Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, lean your ear this way..." and "Up on the roof top reindeer pause, Out jumps good old Santa Claus......click click click...down through the chimney with good Saint Nick." They are both based on Saint Nicholas and somewhere along the line, in the US, it merged with the Christmas celebration because they were so close together, I imagine. Here in the Netherlands, we celebrate Sint Nicholas (Sinterklaas) on December 5th, in Germany they celebrate on the 6th. But it's all the same figure. I totally get why you would want to keep them separate, especially learning about the actual figure since you are Catholic, but they are actually the same...Santa has just become more commercialized, I imagine to appeal to non-Catholics?

Yes, that’s why I think it’s so confusing. 😂

Santa doesn’t come on St Nick night, St Nick is a separate figure to us, and he only leaves a stocking... but Santa is also Nicholas. It’s so strange to me when I think about it.. I understand why we celebrate both, but I’m surprised that it goes over so easily.lol

I want out, I hate my school, I hate everyone, people are just so mean. I feel like a social outcast, I don’t understand what’s wrong with me. People just don’t understand me? Now that I think about it, it’s not the people. I try to make friends, and fail, and before everyone freaks out that I’m gonna harm myself or anyone. I’m not that doesn’t resolve anything, I love you guys, it feels good to vent :)
