They were going to double his rent, and he said he just couldn’t make any money at that point, so he really had no choice but to close the business.
He said he really doesn’t know what he’s gonna’ do now, but, it probably won’t be retail.

Myself and others that worked there always wondered why he didn’t advertise more. We always thought he could make a lot more money doing so. Guys of all ages (and gals lookin’ for stuff for guys) used to come in all the time and comment how they wish they knew about the store sooner because we had so much cool stuff.
But, ultimately, when he had the 2 locations he appeared to have his hands full, and seemed relieved when he went back to just the one.
He really wasn’t interested in creating an empire, he just wanted to be hands on with one location. He was just interested in selling good quality cool stuff for a good price and making a decent living for his family.
It just sucks.

I said for him to get in touch with me if there was anything I could help him with, asked him to stay in touch, and wished him the best of luck.
Hopefully, he lands on his feet again soon, doin’ somethin’ he loves...!!! :)

Sympathy like and {{HUGS}} for both of you. Somewhere in the back of my mind I had hoped we'd make it down your way so you could fit the guys for suits.:(

Hubs and I decided to see the Nutcracker movie tonight. I really enjoyed it. I kept reminding myself that it wasn’t the same story as the ballet, so that stopped me from comparing the two. I love the ballet so much and I was very happy with how the music was incorporated into the film. But now all I want to do is listen to the music! Also in the theater it was just us and one guy. Apparently hubs didn’t see the other guy come in because as we left hubs said it was fun for us to be alone in the theater. So I turned and pointed out the other guy and hubs was so surprised to see him! 😜

Apparently it did terrible in theaters but I learned to love movies that did terrible - Pete's Dragon, The Newsies. I want to see the Beautiful Boy. It's in 540 theaters so far and the theater near my house is one of them. No desire to see the Queen movie.

That is sad. He put his heart and soul into that business. As noted, his ambition was not to build up an empire, but to have a good business and treat his customers well.

And, with the slowdown in customers in malls, etc., I was surprised that the mall owner/real estate agent, wanted to double his rent. I mean, what the heck? They're shooting themselves in the foot with that strategy. :cautious:

Oh that stinks! You would think that if a mall didn't want more stores closing they wouldn't increase rent. I know the dead one by us gives the remaining stores very cheap rent because of that. Maybe he can just find another location?

The movie might pick up viewers closer to Christmas. I kind of want to see the Queen movie, the music should be good but I’ll wait until I can rent it.
