  • Some of these stores have been replaced by private groups involving kids as a place to do a scientific and mechanical projects, but, just as a meeting and work place... no retail sales. There are also others that came in after 2007, but, are gone now, so no real sense in listing them... the list is long enough already. :p The moral of the story is... if you love to go shopping, but, hate crowds, this is the place to go. The largest number of people in there now are old people, like me, that are there walking in a futile attempt to keep the joints from locking up on us.

The turnover of stores--that's insane.

In another story today, Lowe's is shutting down a bunch of their lesser performing stores (U.S. and Canada). The attached article from Market Watch also lists the states and locations. Think N. Carolina slid by, but that's because their headquarters are based in N.C., I would imagine.

That's very pretty. There were some brilliant red leaf trees around here on Sunday. Funny that all the trees with the yellow leaves lost them in the rain and wind over the past weekend. But the bright red ones are still there! :)
Thanks! All of our yellows left early too. This isn’t a super-color year. We have had better color. It must have been all the heat and rain -maybe?

Absolutely. Up here in New England, Maine, NH, and Vermont all had slower peak colors this year--off by 1-2 weeks, compared to other years. Weatherman said it was due to the warmer temperatures.

2 more days of work, then I go to the lakeshore for a knitting retreat thurs-sunday... 50 knitters all in the same room... it gets pretty loud. Since it's only 35 minutes away, I drive home at night to sleep in my own bed. So I keep anyone awake with my crazy snoring!

Then I work for a week,

Then Florida the next week. Boy that week in between is going to be a long one!

But, an update on the clothing store...
He finally returned my text late this morning.
Unfortunately, he is, indeed, out of business. :(
They were going to double his rent, and he said he just couldn’t make any money at that point, so he really had no choice but to close the business.
He said he really doesn’t know what he’s gonna’ do now, but, it probably won’t be retail.

Myself and others that worked there always wondered why he didn’t advertise more. We always thought he could make a lot more money doing so. Guys of all ages (and gals lookin’ for stuff for guys) used to come in all the time and comment how they wish they knew about the store sooner because we had so much cool stuff.
But, ultimately, when he had the 2 locations he appeared to have his hands full, and seemed relieved when he went back to just the one.
He really wasn’t interested in creating an empire, he just wanted to be hands on with one location. He was just interested in selling good quality cool stuff for a good price and making a decent living for his family.
It just sucks.

I said for him to get in touch with me if there was anything I could help him with, asked him to stay in touch, and wished him the best of luck.
Hopefully, he lands on his feet again soon, doin’ somethin’ he loves...!!! :)

That’s too bad about the store, from some of the pictures you posted it looked like nice quality stuff.

Hubs and I decided to see the Nutcracker movie tonight. I really enjoyed it. I kept reminding myself that it wasn’t the same story as the ballet, so that stopped me from comparing the two. I love the ballet so much and I was very happy with how the music was incorporated into the film. But now all I want to do is listen to the music! My 8th graders have a test tomorrow and I always play instrumental music when they test so I’m thinking I will be playing the nutcracker.

Also in the theater it was just us and one guy. Apparently hubs didn’t see the other guy come in because as we left hubs said it was fun for us to be alone in the theater. So I turned and pointed out the other guy and hubs was so surprised to see him! 😜
