The special for Mickey Mouse's 90th is on ABC tonight at 8pm eastern time.
I missed it for a mandatory cheer parent meeting last night. Apparently a lot of "drama" with some cheer moms, and some not nice behavior with some kids had caused the gym owner and staff to call the meeting. My dd being in the 5-8 year old group had no involvement, but it kind of scares me as to the future as dd gets older. Can I say again how Facebook is a very bad thing especially for kids. My whole thing is it is a team sport. If you want your kid to stand out and be the center of attention, then you are in the wrong sport. Do gymnastics, or tennis, or any other sport where you compete against everyone else. I kept my mouth shut as I generally do for the 1 and a half hour meeting.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Parents can be so much worse than kids. The parents at out last game yesterday were atrocious. Yelling at the ref, berating our players, one parent even called the red a “B...”, loudly.

How do you do that in front of 8 year olds?! The ref was fair, and nice.. every time a kid received a penalty or lost a throw in.. she would ask the kid if they understood the call. I love when refs do that. There was a lot of penalties/hand balls/lost throw ins.. but neither team was playing rough. They were just playing soccer. I felt horrible for the ref and the players. I was disappointed in the opposing team’s coaches for not reprimanding his parents. He should have.

Then, I check my email last night. Apparently there’s basketball drama before the season even starts.:hilarious: Several boys must play AAU as well (select basketball) and their parents are asking coaches to change practice times to accommodate them.
It also spoke of parental behavior.

Here’s part of the email -

Hi Everyone,

with basketball practice starting tomorrow, there are a few things that have come up that I wanted to communicate with everyone:

1) The league is taking a much harder stance this year on spectator behavior because of events the last couple of years. Unruly behavior by parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles/etc in the stands may lead to technical fouls for the team and/or the coach, as well as potential suspensions up to 2 games for the person in the stands and/or the coach. In situations where someone refuses to get under control, game forfeitures and suspension for the year may be warranted. Be a positive influence on your son and his team when you're in the stands.
2) I have fielded numerous questions on AAU. I realize AAU is an important supplement to the school league. There is no way we can take individual requests to work around AAU schedules. There are simply too many variables. The **** coaches have every right to lay on consequences (e.g minimize/eliminate playing time) if your son misses practices to go to an AAU game or practice. Both myself and the Athletic Club Board will back the coaches in these situations.
3) Practices are for the boys and their coaches. Please refrain from attending practices until it is time to pick up your sons.

First, these are 3rd graders. First year of school basketball.
Second, there’s multiple kids who play more than one sport at once. I can’t imagine asking for my kid to have special treatment as a result!!! I’m worried about futsal and basketball having conflicts, but I have already told T that he might be penalized if we miss a game because of it.. in either sport. The same thing happened with Soccer and baseball last spring. That’s part of the consequences when you play select sports and school sports during the same season.

First, I am sorry for the loss of your dad. I personally don’t have the same type of experience that you do with family. Maybe speak with a therapist?
I had a few good therapist over the past 7 years to help me get through everything. I had done some grief counseling afterwards following my dad's passing and have now come to terms with him being gone. Talked with my MIL and DH and think the best thing I can do for myself is just stay far away from her. I don't need to enter back in the toxic environment. Thank you for your kind words.

That is sad. Our dead mall no longer has any anchor stores. It had a Sears, JC Penny, and Bonton when we first moved here 7 years ago. Now, the biggest store is some antiques knock-off store.
As of July 2007, Cary Towne Center had the following shops inside or just outside the mall: I have crossed off the ones that are no longer there.

  • Some of these stores have been replaced by private groups involving kids as a place to do a scientific and mechanical projects, but, just as a meeting and work place... no retail sales. There are also others that came in after 2007, but, are gone now, so no real sense in listing them... the list is long enough already. :p The moral of the story is... if you love to go shopping, but, hate crowds, this is the place to go. The largest number of people in there now are old people, like me, that are there walking in a futile attempt to keep the joints from locking up on us.

One of the complaints that the head coach had was due to family conflicts with choreography and stunt camp which is during one week in the summer. There were also complaints of conflicts with competitions. Well, every parent knows that cheer competitions are generally from December until May. I purposely do not schedule vacations during those months, even though I could because my kids are home schooled. With the choreography, they actually pay for a professional cheer choreographer, who is also a judge to come and choreograph the routines. Now the head coach has to coordinate the cheer kids and the gymnast team kids and make sure that there is no conflict. She said this year was so bad. She also said that the choreographer was in a hallway and overheard some parents complaining, "why isn't my child in the center?" Well, as I had to explain to my husband, choreography is done so the kids don't trip over each other when they go from one position to another. They can't have kids running across the floor to get to their next spots. The point is a clean looking routine all around. He asked the coach, "what is going on the gym this year?" Anyway, 2 Fridays ago, one kid was removed from a senior team that only had 9 kids to begin with because the parent had berated the owner in a not nice way, and issues had been ongoing. She just couldn't take it anymore. So now you have kids that had already lost a teammate to injury, and one who quit last month, and now dealing with that. All because a parent was just so overbearing and disrespectful. Just sad. When my kid comes out of the gym, the only thing I ask is "Did you have fun?"
