We had Woolworth's and Zayres, too. I loved Woolworths--they had everything. I mean, you could buy gloves and scarves on the first floor, sit at a lunch counter and get a hot dog and soda, and then go upstairs to the 2nd floor and buy a hamster! :hilarious: (No, I'm not making that up--parakeets and hamsters on 2nd floor, along with more clothing, housewares, etc.) That place had real CLASS!! :p
For me, Woolworth's had their Pet section at the bottom floor. I saw the Animals you mentioned on that floor. Woolworth's was a very rare store in the late mall I went to as a kid. The late mall in question only had one Floor except for 2 stores. The only way to enter the stores with 2 floors was by using the two store's escalators for going to the bottom floor.

The other store in that mall with a 2nd floor was a Gimbel's that turned into Boston Store. We used to go Woolworth's a lot in that late mall including using that lunch counter.

Woolworth's was part of the late mall's Trick or Treating day when the store was in existence. How trick or treating was handled at the mall was you go to the shops with a costume on and you get treats. The mall usually had trick or treating on a different than the houses did in the area back when the houses only had 1 day of trick or treating with the mall sometimes having it on a different day than the houses.

Woolworth's was at a great location in the mall. The Entrance I used for getting into the mall was in the middle of the mall. Woolworth's was the first store you see on the right hand side past Santa or the Easter Bunny depending on the Holiday season.

The late mall was designed with 1 floor with 2 shops having a basement floor for a good reason. The mall was originally built as a Strip Mall in 1951 and the development of that strip mall decided wants stores could have a bottom level that only can be access from the store itself. My dad used to go to that mall growing up when it was a strip mall. My dad was not alive when the strip mall first open though.

Gimbels was one of the stores from the Malls strip mall only days and I have no idea about Woolworth's. Back in 1970, a mall was opened in the suburbs with it being 10 times bigger and having a 2nd floor with shoppers leaving that old strip mall to the new mall. The old strip mall was outclassed in every way.

The owners of the Strip mall made most of the strip mall into a enclosed mall and made it 2 times bigger. but it had no 2 floor except for the two stores I mentioned.

I called the mall that had Woolworth's late because not a lot of that mall exists anymore. Woolworth's closing started the end of that mall. Boston Store left that mall in the same year and the mall was left with no anchor stores. That mall tried getting anchor stores, but the deals fall through and and a new buyer bought the non strip mall sections. The new buyer demolished the non strip mall section for building a Wal-mart.

There also were the Brookstone, and Sharper Image catalogs. I wonder if Brookstone will still have one since they closed all their stores. It was fun looking at the gadgets.

The clothing stores last location was in the old Brookstone location.
That store was in the mall since it first opened in ‘95.
I think the only thing I ever bought there was a cool-looking little desk fan.
