Soccer Drama-
2 kids on T’s team are being moved down. Technically this isn’t allowed because June tryouts guarantee Fall thru Spring seasons without being moved down (can be moved up) until the next year’s June tryout.
Supplemental tryouts are next week, this is where kids can move up, and potential new kids can try out.
Every kid must tryout so they can see how club-hopefuls play with current players.
Basically the 2 kids were told that if they remain on the team they won’t get any playing time, so it would be beneficial to move down. Obviously at that point the parents agreed.
I’m worried though. T BOMBS at tryouts, in any sport. Totally like watching a different kid. I emailed his coach to ask if he was in any danger. The reply was “No, he has great skills, he’s not going anywhere. His confidence has improved a lot this season.
However, I think he could benefit from speed and agility training during the winter. I recommend doing a 6-8 week training session.”
There is absolutely no way that I can fit that in our schedule now!!
If it is this cutthroat at age 8.. what’s it going to be like in a few years??? This whole thing, especially after last Spring, just puts a bad taste in my mouth.
I definitely know that T’s last growth spurt has had a negative impact on his running mechanics and agility.. he still has speed, but he’s not reaching his full potential because of the poor mechanics, he looks a bit awkward. I just feel like the coach should help with that. Give me a plan that he can work on at home. I hope this won’t have an impact at supplementals!
