Soccer Drama-

2 kids on T’s team are being moved down. Technically this isn’t allowed because June tryouts guarantee Fall thru Spring seasons without being moved down (can be moved up) until the next year’s June tryout.
Supplemental tryouts are next week, this is where kids can move up, and potential new kids can try out.
Every kid must tryout so they can see how club-hopefuls play with current players.

Basically the 2 kids were told that if they remain on the team they won’t get any playing time, so it would be beneficial to move down. Obviously at that point the parents agreed.

I’m worried though. T BOMBS at tryouts, in any sport. Totally like watching a different kid. I emailed his coach to ask if he was in any danger. The reply was “No, he has great skills, he’s not going anywhere. His confidence has improved a lot this season.
However, I think he could benefit from speed and agility training during the winter. I recommend doing a 6-8 week training session.”

There is absolutely no way that I can fit that in our schedule now!!

If it is this cutthroat at age 8.. what’s it going to be like in a few years??? This whole thing, especially after last Spring, just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I definitely know that T’s last growth spurt has had a negative impact on his running mechanics and agility.. he still has speed, but he’s not reaching his full potential because of the poor mechanics, he looks a bit awkward. I just feel like the coach should help with that. Give me a plan that he can work on at home. I hope this won’t have an impact at supplementals!
Kid’s sports is just so cutthroat at any age. Sports are great, but they shouldn’t take up all your free time. I am glad cheer is just 5 hours a week, split in 2 days. The most they can practice is 8 hours a week, and that is older teams. The hours are a set standard by the cheerleading association.

Do you think the driver abandoned it? If the person didn't have insurance, maybe he/she didn't want to pay to dig it out, only to have to get it repaired for more money?

No clue.
It’s just so weird, as normally they’re removed quickly.
And, who knows what all fluids are leeching into the water...gasoline, oil, transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, gear lube, battery acid, windshield washer fluid, etc. All, normally, pretty closed systems, but, who knows what was damaged during the accident... :cyclops:

Well, I have to say, if they've got 2 kids on the team who are being moved down, which is technically against the rules, they obviously didn't do a very good job with choosing their team. Given that T was originally wait-listed, and now the coach says no way he's going anywhere....That makes 3 kids, out of how many, who were not accurately assessed during the tryout. I should say "at least 3"....there may be more. It doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in their ability to assess skills and get the best out of the kids they coach, because if they were chosen for the team initially, they must have something in them...why isn't it showing now? Probably because these kids are.....kids!! Is it really necessary to take it so seriously? Man, the amount of pressure on these kids must be huge. I'm all for teaching kids to be dedicated and to work hard....discipline...but it doesn't sound like they are rewarding hard work and effort...the emphasis is on being better than everyone else. What do these two kids learn from being moved down?
This was so well stated!!!

How many years did it take before you wanted the change? I still love my set after 17 years. I'm an oddball though. I didn't want a diamond, I went for pearl. Not as expensive, not as flashy, but more me. I dreamed about my ring, described it to my husband, and we were walking through the shopping district one day and passed a jewelry store. I looked in the window, and there was the ring I had dreamed...I pointed it out and the next time we were walking, it was gone and I was so sad. My husband had gone and bought it secretly so I could have the ring of my dreams. (Literally) And I still love it to this day.
Great story!:inlove:

Those time restrictions are great!

We have two more games next weekend, then the season is over. I think that I won’t register him for either technical or goal keeper training in Nov/Dec. His regular training starts back in January.. in November/December he’ll get soccer on my team, and his futsal team.. and he’ll have basketball. Risky or not, I won’t let my kid spend all of his time on soccer. I want him to enjoy as many sports as he wants until he’s forced to choose in high school. It’s crazy that they expect kids to give up everything for ONE sport!
Soccer is not the only one guilty of this.. just a youth sports rant in general.

I will admit that the speed and agility would benefit him in all sports, not only soccer. He does need to fix this new flatish foot run that’s going on. I also understand why his coach recommended it. I’m just going to try to do it myself at home. I can have him do box jumps and butt kicks etc..I’ll get an agility ladder. I just don’t want to take on another 6-8 weeks of formal training.

Any jewelry lovers out there (specifically engagement rings/wedding bands) might appreciate this. I have been in the process with my current jeweler to get my ring "re-set". I didn't really like my original engagement and wedding ring setting that I have been wearing since we got married. Don't get me wrong. I picked them out, but over the years, they got I guess you could say clunky as a set and I wanted something more simple. So I decided to this past September to finally have the center stone rest into a bezel-halo solitaire. I have always had a soft spot for solitaires. And I am getting so anxious to get that baby back!

(I got pics of the original and the casting of the new ring if you want to see;))

Would love to see (if you haven't already posted them) I'm in love with my ring... and I can't see me ever getting sick of it... we had looked 5 places before I finally saw it in a case and knew that was it... and i never put a band with it because it detracted from the ring. But this year for our 10th anniversary my hubby bought me a anniversary ring that actually goes quite well, so I'm wearing them together now.

I can understand abandoning it, because no matter what you do to a car that has been submerged in water, it will not be worth the effort to try and fix it. All the interior would have to be redone, flooring, upholstery and countless other things plus possible damage to the engine and other exposed moving parts. That means that the city or county would have to spend the money to move it. My bet is that they have checked it out which is why all the yellow tape was attached to it, gotten the serial numbers and know who owns the car. They could possibly be waiting for a response because even if the owner doesn't pay directly to have it removed, the government will move it and bill/garnish or do whatever is needed to have he or she pay for it's removal.

Not judging as i am on my second wedding ring. :cautious:

I’m still on my first wedding ring after almost 30 years of marriage.
But, I have lost it 3 times over the years...
The first time was in Lake Travis when we were swimming with our 2nd 2 pups. I jumped off a short rocky ledge down to them to play with them in the water. When I finally got out of the water, I noticed it was gone, and panicked. Fortunately (and NO JOKE), there were 2 scuba divers that had just surfaced down the shore. I walked over and asked if they wouldn’t mind...
Sure ‘nough, they found it in the 15 ft. of water right below where I was playin’ with the dogs...whew!!!

Second time...
Yep, you guessed it, Lake Travis again...!!!
My cousins were in town and we decided to head to the lake to swim for the afternoon.
No dogs this time, and it was down by the boat ramp near the dam. Lots of sand and silt in that area.
Took quite a while for all of us to find it with borrowed snorkeling gear, and with all the silt bein’ kicked up, but, eventually, my youngest bro saw a glint on it from the sun and snagged it...!!!!! :joyfull:
Again, whew...!!!

Third time’s a charm...
One weekend afternoon around the house, I just looked down and realized it was missing...
WTH...?! I knew I hadn’t taken it off (I VERY rarely do), and was completely perplexed and kerfuffuled (sorry, just love that word ;)).
I looked up and down for it everywhere, to no avail.
DWifey wanted to get me another one, but, I resisted.
Over 2 months had gone by, when on another weekend day we were going through clothes to donate from a basket we kept next to a chest of drawers in our bedroom...I heard the plop on the bedroom floor, looked down, and there it friggin’ was...!!!!!!! :joyfull:
Whew!!! Again, and the only thing I can figure is it flew of when I was drying my hands with a towel after washing them and it flipped into the basket...!!! :cyclops:

That last time was about 15 years ago.
The ring is nowhere near as intricate as it was when DWifey first put it on my finger all those years ago because of wear and tear, but, that just symbolizes all the love and craziness that we’ve been through together over the years...!!!!!!! :inlove::happy:

My ring...!!! :)

And, marked for life...!!!!!!! :inlove::happy::)

I sure do. I've been toying with the idea of pulling some of the stuff that is sitting in a safety deposit box. One day my Mom handed me her 2 caret replacement wedding ring. My sis got her original one. I don't like the setting. So I'm so up for seeing new settings.

Blurg. Little kids need time to pick and choose what they want to be and where their talent really is. Sports or Music as an example. Little kids need the opportunity to discover all areas of interest. So didn't want my kids to be a Tiger Woods, trolling the golf course at a destiny defined by a Dads whim. Yeah, wealthy. But a screwed up man. Choices.

The two kids being moved down are two of the kids who were being decided about against some of the Spring team kids.. and other parents left the club, over being waitlisted at that time. I think I posted about that beck then, I tried to get T to switch clubs with them, but he wouldn’t.

Those two kids performed better at tryouts, but when it came to meshing with the team, they weren’t a great fit. It’s so frustrating. These kids are 7 and 8 years old at June tryouts.. some can’t handle the pressure, i.e. my kid. This is the main reason they send trainers and other coaches to practices and games near the end of the season.. because those times are supposed to carry more weight than tryouts for current players. BUT, that’s not what happened in June. Our team dynamic suffered for it, a lot of kids got hurt in the process.. for what???? 2 of the new ones being moved down anyway??!!!!

I feel bad for them, but I just hate the entire scenario from A to Z. Now we get at least one more new kids after supplementals.. one of the kids on the team below us is moving to our team though for sure..I know his parents, I like them, and I’ve seen him play..he’s really good and definitely deserves to move up.

We finished 1st in a major tournament in Spring, and we finished first in our division in regular season.. and yet the club wasn’t satisfied apparently. We didn’t get a trophy this Fall, and we finished 2nd in regular season. The club definitely made a mistake in June.
(Edit for clarity on this portion- 4 kids left the team after Spring season. 1 got moved down, 3 left the club altogether over the tryout result drama. We had a total of 4 new players on the current Fall team, this current team was supposed to stay together thru June ‘19)

Like you said, these are kids. A lot of them on their first or second year on a “select” team. They’re used to being the best on their school team, and a lot suffer confidence issues when they’re now on a team where a lot of players are better than them.. especially the opponents.. most aren’t accustomed to that. This is all normal!! Develop them, work thru their confidence and inconsistency IF they have the skills and potential. Don’t bench them every time they make a mistake. That should NOT happen until 10U in my opinion... not at 7 thru 9 year olds. I’m just confused and shocked by it all.
Again, what lesson are the kids learning? They work hard, they win first place in the division in the Spring and Second in the fall...and then 2 kids get moved down? Like...ok kids, thanks for working your tails off so we look great....but now you gotta go because we wanted first. And ok, I get it that it's a select team, it's competitive, so if you don't have the skills, you won't make the team. But even if they were replacements for some other kids who left, they were still obviously the best of those they had to choose from. At what point do the coaches look at themselves and say "What are WE not doing that they aren't improving? How can WE help them meet their potential?" And I agree with you....they are way too young at this age to be benched for making mistakes. Perhaps the lack in confidence stems from knowing their coaches don't believe in them? And fear of what will happen if you make a mistake? Just look at what you've said about T. He makes one mistake and his confidence is shattered and he makes more mistakes. That's what happens to a LOT of kids...one mistake leads to more, because they are rattled. If the stakes are so high at 8, no wonder they have issues with confidence! They are shooting themselves in the foot by having too high of expectations for kids.
