We have a hotel booked and are planning on it. Hubs says I don’t have to go if I don’t want to, but I know he wants me there for support. I don’t know if I want to throw him into the wolves alone. I did tell him if any bad weather was in the forecast I wasn’t going.

I do plan to just be as minimally polite as possible and no helping with dinner or whatever like usual.

Yah, they're his family (poor thing . . .). Go to be with him, make an appearance, and get the heck out as soon as you can. Smart that you booked a hotel to escape. (And seriously--if they can't be reasonably gracious, and if any of them turn the conversation into a toxic atmosphere when you're there--BOLT.)

@ajrwdwgirl you two had a fun weekend! Loved all the pix!!

I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures, it was a fun weekend. :)

Oh I must not have been around last year for this fiasco!

Long story short....My husband's sisters are not nice people. Hub's broke his ankle and couldn't drive last year, I don't feel comfortable driving in the Chicago area (especially in the winter when roads might be icy). So according to them I am a horrible person because I wouldn't drive down for the family Christmas or put out over $500* to fly (and more for hotel) down to Chicago for two days. We offered to host for the year but they of course couldn't drive up here, and in the 13 years we have been married have never been to visit us.

Don't forget to pack a frying pan to go with the comebacks:angelic:

I don't think they are even worth a frying pan. :bored:

Oh, we will always stay in a hotel from now on. Luckily the night of the whole family Christmas dinner the Minnesota Wild and the Chicago Blackhawks will be playing, so since they are Blackhawk fans the tv should be on in the background and I can at least watch my hockey game!

I know it is early but if any of the Chicago area chit chatters are up for a mini-meet up around the time I have to go visit my in-laws let me know. Hubs and I are going to be staying over in the Woodfield Mall area a night before staying close to his sister's hours. With all the talk about how good Chuy's is, I think there is one in that area it might be fun to eat there.

Went downstairs to see what hubs was cursing about -- it was a fly he was trying to swat, and he is convinced the fly has Zika and is going to kill us. Even the dog came upstairs to escape the drama.
Well, you're too far north for that, and Zika is only dangerous for pregnant women, so unless there's something he's not telling you...

Where I live is kinda safe.. the floods need to be catastrophic to reach my house (Surge does not reach) but I will be isolated.
Main highway is elevated by approximately 10 meters above sea level. Problem are landslides caused by rain (lots of mountains).

We have food, we have water..
I hope you and your family stays safe. How is your grandmother?
