So Saturday, we wanted to go pumpkin picking. We went to a Mennonite run garden center because they usually sell baked goods that the kids enjoy. We got there about 1:30/2pm. They had a small display of pumpkins and no baked goods, Apparently we were late to the pumpkin picking party. Well, we took the drive and decided to go into their greenhouses. They did have some amazingly huge mums for only $6.99. They were 3 times the size of what the supermarket was selling for $4.99, so we bought 3. We also bought a pretty daisy plant, which we have since put in our house. Well, then I suggested going to a farm where youngest's cheer team and the other teams are going for a team bonding experience. When we got their it was packed. No room to park, and the fields were muddy looking. For this place they had no pre-picked pumpkins you could choose from. You had to pay for a wagon ride in order to go into the field and get your own. That is normally fun, but not when it had been raining every other day for months. So, then we decided to go to a farm we had gone to 2 years ago that had had loads of pre-picked pumpkins and local goods. It was 30 minutes from where we were. We got there and unbelievably there was an auction sign on the property! The farm had gone out of business!:( We ended up going to a Mennonite grocery store/ garden center that we had passed on the way. They had plenty of pumpkins and lots of local baked/ cooked items. We got there at 3:50pm. They closed at 4. Dh was like, "It is really carpy to show up to a store right when they want to close". I agreed, but after driving for almost 2 and half hours for some stupid pumpkins, I said that I didn't care and we would be quick, which we were. So, I considered that a very wasted afternoon that I will never get back.

Wow. What a bizarre day you all had. I think we've all had those occasional days when everything goes wrong. Too bad you had to waste an afternoon like that, when you had your hopes up for fun. At least you got some nice plants.

Thereā€™s also a site where you can email Santa.. I havenā€™t used it before, but will this year.

When I was a kid, my mother sent away to some company, to get a letter from Santa for me. One day, I came home from school (kindergarten) and my mother said I had a letter. I was excited because as a little kid, I never got mail--that was for grownups! I saw Santa on the envelope and asked my mother to help me read it (I could only read a little bit at that age). I was ecstatic that Santa wrote a letter to me!!!:happy: (I think I still have the letter in a box someplace. :hilarious: )

@MySmallWorldof4 i forgot that I meant to quote your post earlier.. thanks to @MinnieM123 for inadvertently reminding me.

Sorry for your day, Iā€™m sure that was extremely frustrating. I love the pick patches, but even at those they usually have some pre picked pumpkins to choose from, even if at the store itself. Disappointing :(
Hopefully the backed goods made the end of the day a bit brighter!

Sounds like your daughter is having a fun team building exercise! Howā€™s it going? Any competitions coming up?

I don't have any children, but I think every mother and father I've known has echoed your sentiments above. Childhood really is a magical time, and it is sad that it's so short-lived. I send sympathy to you.

Thank you. Iā€™m having a tough time with it.
Everything from attitude to interests to facial features.. itā€™s all changing over the past several months. Current events and school talks didnā€™t help much either. Literally feels like I blinked and had a ā€œbig kidā€.

Oh this is so neat!! I never did anything like that. T really did think that our train rides were magic and that we went to the North Pole. Santa was onboard and cutting a B into the tickets as well.
Thereā€™s also a fantastic display of Elves in Cincinnati. Once upon time they were on display at a defunct department store called ā€œShilitosā€. Over time one man made a mission to collect the elves, and opened up a re-enactment display a few years ago.
At the end you write a letter to Santa and watch it get vacuumed up and transported to one of the elf rooms.

I wish we all could believe for just a little bit longer. We have to grow up fast enough. On the bright side, the memories of being a kid are always there for each of us to cherish. :)

Thatā€™s my second biggest fear about my son. The first is the lost magic, but I would also be so afraid that he would ruin it for another kid or my niece and nephew.

We had a lunch date with our church pastor a few months ago, because T questions the existence and role of God so often. I didnā€™t feel equipped to answer all of his questions, so sought help. The pastor told him that ā€œfaith is something that we can not see, but what we believeā€. It helped, but he still makes so many comments and questions.

The kid thinks Too Much.
Perspective from someone who of course has no children here, but....

He seems like he's highly intelligent. It might be time to let the whole Santa thing go. It may just be insulting his intelligence at this point. And if you're afraid he'll ruin it for everyone else, talk to him about it. I'm sure he'll understand.

Thanks. Heā€™s definitely an over thinker over analyzer. One night I went to check on him about 30 minutes after I tucked him in. (He usually kicks his covers off). He was laying awake, just staring. I asked what he was doing ā€œJust thinking about gravity.ā€ ā€œGravity, why?ā€ ā€œMom, is it possible that gravity could suddenly disappear and we would all float away?ā€ ā€œNo, T. Gravity is here to stay. Now please go to sleep. We can talk more about gravity in the morning.ā€
Who thinks of these things?!?!? Sometimes I just have to laugh, and other times I just sit perplexed wondering why he thinks the strangest things.

Iā€™m going to try to keep Santa and Luke real thru this December, but Iā€™ll be lucky if I make it that far. Either way, Christmas 2019 wonā€™t have Santa magic for sure.. just please send good thoughts that we keep the magic thru ā€˜18!

Practices have been rough. The 2 tall girls from last season aged out and are on the Youth team. So the stunts are really shaky, and falls are happening. Luckily the floors are bouncy. First competition is in December. It is a 2 day in Baltimore. Should be interesting. I just want dd to have fun.

The team building experience has been cancelled because there were too many conflicts, like birthday and Halloween parties. One less thing for me to go to so I donā€™t care.

That was really nice of your mom. One year I got the kids sent a personalized email from Santa.

Oh, @figmentfan423 , you'll be happy to hear that the plumber guy came to fix the furnace, so now we have heat if we want it. (P.S.: As soon as the guy left, I turned it way down, because it's too warm for heat now. :p )

My dog liked the plumber. He watched him work and looked fascinated.

Still behind, so didnā€™t know it was broke, but, glad the furnace is fixed...!!! :)
DWifey had the heat on when I got home.
Oh well, the natural heat canā€™t last all year long...even down here...!!! ;) :)

It is super tough to keep them young now with so much information available to them. I cannot believe my youngest turns 8 in 30 days. :(
