Well, this says he collided with another player. https://www.omroepgelderland.nl/nie...ige-keeper-gesprek-van-de-dag-in-s-Heerenberg so the people talking about it at work yesterday must have been wrong. Or I suppose the news story could be wrong. It just says he collapsed and didn't get back up after the collision, and they took him to Nijmegen to the hospital (That's quite far!) where he died of "Brain injuries". If it WAS a ball to the head, it was an accident, because I'm pretty sure they banned headballs here a few years ago up until the adult level.

It sound like he was in goal, but there was a collision. I’d like to follow this story, please let me know if you hear any other details.
My heart goes out to the other player in the collision as well. What a horrible thing to carry around.

Edited to add- I wonder if the impact could have been the foot and the head, not a ball at all.

I feel like there’s so many freak devastating incidents in youth sports recently. :(

We love love love Key West, and have gone many times, including our honeymoon. It’s a solid 4 hour drive, so kind of “at the line” of what’s a reasonable day trip.

Plus Kylie does not do well in public there. My dog who never barks, barks at every rooster on the street!

We never tawk like that!

I had them all on my DVR without commercials from the HBO marathon last Christmas. Of course, we got a new DVR and I lost them all. I have the SyFy ones with commercials now.

I’m sure there’s a way to get a shirt made - the thing is they may have to charge you a hefty set-up fee. But my concern is how the other kids treat your kid when they’re all supposed to wear one and he isn’t. So get it anyway.

Does Kylie do better in the upper or middle keys? If so, then yeah, I could see skipping KW.

Yeah, the simplest version of this spontaneous trip would be to rent the convertible (that would make it special enough for us) probably a Mustang or Camaro, drive down to Islamorada with puppy (presumably) loving the top down, go to lunch at MM88 Restaurant, which is excellent and has a large patio outdoors where she can stay with us, wander around a bit and go home. We're talking $70 for the car plus maybe $150 for a really nice lunch.

But now I'm all into getting the car for two days, driving up to Orlando tonight, going to Epcot tomorrow for F&W including the Mediterranean lunch pairing (have to call right now to see if it's available) bring Kylie, take her to BFPC during the day ($40) and then we can either go home Tuesday night, or spend another $155 in points to stay at Port Orleans Riverside with the pup + $50 pup fee, and drive home early in the morning so we can both work on Thursday.

I requested the name in my last email on Friday afternoon. Still waiting on a response.

I wish we could set up an account for school, Like put $500 or $1000 at the beginning of the year.. let them deduct as necessary and then we get the balance if any is left over at the end of the school year. 😂

That way parents as disorganized as I am wouldn’t miss any deadlines. ;)
It boggles my mind how I struggle with one kid when other people manage with 3 to 5. Between work, soccer, and school I feel like I’m on overload.

Maybe even using an app instead of random emails from different people.

I wish all info/requirements came in ONE form of communication. Instead, we have some papers that come home, some things on the website, some in the weekly emailed newsletter, and then others from these emails from committee moms. Just condense it to ONE!
Yeah, or at the very least, it should all come from the same source....like, if you are going to send something through email, it should always come from the same email address so people don't think it's spam because they don't know that person or email. Committees should ask the school administration to send the mail so it comes with the school name in the email address. I can understand sending things in multiple forms in case some people don't have wifi at home, and need a paper, etc, but I'm guessing that's not a problem at your school because it's a private school, right? In our neighborhood, the school has a lot of foreigners who are not native speakers, many who barely speak a word of Dutch, and a lot of them are refugees and have no money for things like computers and wifi. (In DD's class last year, she had one girl from Aruba, one from Poland, one from Syria, one from morocco? A couple of boys from Turkey, a girl from Iraq, and they had a boy and girl from Somalia, but they moved to England. I know I'm missing a couple. But they don't all have computers at home. So they have to send emails AND papers. But if it's something important, they should follow up if they notice they haven't gotten something from you, to make sure you actually got the email. You don't just send only one email and expect that everyone got it. Send a reminder when the due date is close, and then call any parents who didn't respond.

Well, I talked to DD when she came home from school...one of the girls in her class was there. She was in the changing room when it happened, so she didn't see the accident, just the kid lying on the field while they did CPR and then saw him taken away by ambulance. BUT, she said he collided with another player and "hit his head really hard". So apparently it was not a ball at all, though I don't know what part of the other player hit the kid's head. I looked for an English language article, but it apparently didn't even make national news here, so there probably won't be anything international. I'll keep my ears out. We got an email from the school with funeral details. I'll try googling his name and see what I come up with.

Update on my shirt drama-

Called the school secretary, they don’t know the name of the vendor.. it’s all handled by the 6 moms on the spirit wear committee.

So I started messaging everyone I know for help finding the name (had to bleep a few choice words).,
Seriously, what’s the point of withholding the info??????? Don’t order it for me, but let me try myself!!
There is one word that I want to use for these ladies, and it’s not “witches”.

It never made much sense to me that we'd have a week or 2 of school and then have a Monday off. Why not just wait until after the holiday?? It also never made much sense to me that we didn't start on a Monday.....it was always around my brother's birthday, and for a while I know we'd go to state fair and then start school the following week sometime. Now, they start school BEFORE State fair, which makes NO sense, because any of the kids showing stuff for 4H or FFA are gone that whole week for fair. I don't know who designed the school calendar, but it doesn't seem very logical to me. By waiting one more week, they could have everyone there and not have to immediately have a day off.
Here they started on a Thursday which makes no sense. And they start before Labor Day because supposedly it gives seniors in High School an extra 2 weeks to prepare for the state graduation exams. So 2 extra weeks is going to make a difference in a thorough proof of education.:rolleyes:They should do what Maryland did and make it a rule that school starts after Labor Day.

Well, the person in question could have made a deal and is getting a bit of money for every sale. And she/he does not want anyone to know?
That would make sense of the secrecy.

Worse?
He or she is overcharging the tshirts (aka the vendor asks for 25.. she charges you all 35$ per shirt)
So she pockets money at the expense of you all.

I understand all of that! And I do realize that I am at fault here. What angers me is it specifically says that Friday was the last day, not “11:00 am on Friday”. I tried just a few hours later.

I am more than willing to pay more, do the leg work, and handle it myself. I don’t know why she didn’t respond to my last email..

I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt that maybe they went out of town this weekend as the reason she didn’t respond. However, If I don’t get a response by noon today I am calling the school and seeing if they can step in. We’re talking a few hours late here, I could have put in the stupid order myself on Friday afternoon.

I’m friends with people on most committees but not Spirit Wear.. those moms aren’t really my cup of tea. They don’t have kids who are T’s age, and they’re the stereotypical ‘lunch date/country club/Facebook I love my life/look what my husband bought for me/my house is bigger than yours’ club.

I realize that I sound catty and petty here.. I grew up belonging to a country club, plenty of nice people.. but this little group of women is a different type of clique. One I have no interest associating with... but I just want the shirts!
I know the type you are talking about. They don't have to be wealthy either to act that way. I would ring the school.

Both kids collided? The other kid did not suffer any injuries? That is odd, unless this 13 year old had an undiagnosed aneurism that burst due to the area of collision. Truly heartbreaking.

I’m just speculating, but if it was a kick to the head then I could see this happening.

My sister shattered 5 metatarsals from someone kicking her in the foot during a game.. and she was wearing turf soccer shoes!

Goal keepers being injured by a kick is a serious and too common issue, refs try to prevent it, but it happens. The other possibility is maybe the goal post?

Like I said, I’m totally guessing, but those two scenarios frighten me, and I could see how something so horrible could happen as a result.

You aren't disorganized, you are one parent doing it alone. You are right in that there are too many forms of communication. My youngest's cheer organization is not using an app call Band. This way they don't bombard members with text messages, and emails. All communication goes through the app.

I am trying to get a Key West trip planned for my family. My dh loves Key West. I was even considering a cruise that stops there. We could always combine a Disney and Key West trip, but that would mean taking more than a week off for him, and he can only afford to be gone from work for a week. We are always checking out the Key West webcams.

Decisions, decisions. That is a tough call. I love Disney, but I may lean towards Islamorada. Less people.
