Oh good grief.

I don't know too much about Uni, but do you actually need a rental car there? Because you could get a Lyft XL to take you from WDW to Uni, or between your hotels for cheaper than renting a car. Then you can get a Super Shuttle back to the airport. Might be worth looking into.

I personally only use my Memory Maker (I get it as part of my AP) for sharing a few photos on Instagram from rides, and then I take my own photos, but...if this is something you can only do once every few years, isn't it worth getting all the photos possible during your trip, especially if you're not really a photographer yourself?

Have you looked into renting points for Poly? You might still be far enough out to get some availability, and points at a studio tend to be cheaper than getting a hotel room.
DH refuses to use lyft or uber, which is why I went researching in the first place. I didn't know how to get from Disney to Universal without renting a car the whole time, and we won't need one at Disney, so it would be a waste of money. And we'll need a car for the time in between Disney and Universal, so wherever we rent it, we have to bring it back. So renting from Disney and using ME to the airport just makes the most sense to me.

Those were some really kind words. Thanks. I don’t want to be super woman though. I have realized lately that I cannot do everything and stress myself out. I need to make time for me everyday and the kids now know not to bug me when I do yoga and meditate. That is my time.

I've been learning this as I've been forced to have alone time now. Since she was born, it was basically just A and me 24/7 so I didn't take any time for me at all. Every day was spent creating and doing activities with A and trying to enrich our relationship and her childhood. Now that she has some nights with her dad, I have huge blocks of time where it's just me. So I go running and go to the gym and it's been really sad to not have her but kinda great to rediscover the things I used to do that made me feel strong and healthy.

If it is me that was directed at, my granddaughter is a great pastry chef, but, my diet would consist mostly of cakes. Not a bad short range idea, but, I don't think it would be a wise long range plan. My grandson on the other hand only has two useful skills. The first being video games which would be his entire life if allowed and the other skill is sitting at the table waiting for something to eat. Yet, he is so skinny that if he turns sideways all you see is a narrow line. If he sticks his tongue out he looks like a zipper.

That's my FAVORITE Disney movie :inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove:

It is a difficult transition when you are used to doing everything and then some. I am also a "yes" person and have a hard time saying no when someone asks for a favor. I am now learning to say no. Hope things continue to go in a positive direction for you and A.

Do not attempt to do electrical work yourself, if you are not trained to do so. It can be VERY dangerous.
Nope nope nope....not touching it. DH helped the electrician and he has a bit of experience....he did a lot of it. But I'm not going near it. But it's been this way now for 13 years, so I doubt it will ever get done. It's fine...I have what I need, so if the extras never get done, they never get done.

In other news..

Cant believe how full of crooks banks are in my country.

Mom got victim of a fraud, where a young kid trained in "fast hands" took her card and replaced it with another, then went to an expending spree of 2,000 USD worth of stuff AND a Mac computer.

We called first the bank, and told us that we had to make an official report to apply the card shield who supposedly has a stupidly low 500 USD protection and refused to protect the rest. Despite the card being reported as robbed in a mere pair of hours after it was taken.
Then they gave us a list of things "to do" to be able to get that "protection" (which is not instant and requires making the police report..etc..etc..)

Since my mom as bronchitis, I had to do everything myself and go to the bank for her. They were VERY UNHELPFUL.

My mom then decided to do her best effort and called the government line of credit card protections. and turns out that making the report to the bank with their instructions actually prevents the investigation office of the government (which handles the consumer protection of banks, credit cards, etcs..) leaving you at the whim of the Bank and "their investigation" (aka dirty instructions so you only get the crappy 500 USD protection and not the full protection they were supposed to give, which is 100% protection on the next 48 hours as per federal rules).
These instructions were on purpose so the victim actually loses the money and the bank gets away with no paying anything they should.

These things are even more sketchy since my mom's debit card supposedly had a maximum buy and retire per day limit of 350 USD, yet the thiefs removed and buy more than 2,000 USD in Mexican Pesos!.
Second, my mom's card is supposed to send SMS and calls for anything "suspicious". They DIDN'T send anything at all.
So either the thief was extremely well trained to fool protections, or he had help from bank operatives (which happens).

Worst of all, this happened in another state.. which means my mom has to travel (look how stupidly dumb the laws are..) to make the report IN PERSON.. and hope for the best.

Ugh, so sorry that sounds like a huge pain in the a$$. I hope it all works out for her.

That is awful! I'm so sorry that happened to her. It does sound sketchy, but there's probably not a whole lot you can do about it? Would the bank manager be able to look into it and fix it, or was that the person you talked to?

I'm sorry.

I'm guessing he is comparing the Portofino to the Poly, both Deluxe resorts. I've stayed at both and I love Portofino but they are so different. If he is talking Royal, it is beautiful. The pool is beyond awesome, the beach I believe is still playable with water and sand. It is an awesome hotel and I like the lobby more than the current Poly lobby. But if the Poly is a real bucketlist for you nothing is going to help fix this. Could you try and win 'that one' the Poly and compromise on something else? If remembering correctly this trip is because of your Dad passing and inheriting the funds to make for memories??? I hope I am remembering correctly. Maybe you can try and appeal to it is very important to 3 family members and maybe he could suck it up and let that happen?

As I look back at all the planning I did for Disney trips for 25+ years I am thankful I was able to plan and pick it all. Back then there wasn't the 180 days nor FP+ so we all picked what we wanted to do, taking turns each day. Blessed that way. I have passed those reins onto my daughter and when she asks if this sounds OK my reply is always YES.

And I agree, if he wants to be the bad guy dump'n the Poly after it was agreed, I'd certainly let him tell them, no way should that be coming from you. Hope it works out better.

EDIT: There are some fine hotels immediately around Uni but be so very careful about which directions you go off into picking a cheaper hotel. Some are very dicey now.
Suggest The Unofficial Guide to WDW and Universal. They spell it out. You need that if not familiar with those areas.
He knows nothing about any of the resorts. I picked Royal Pacific because it has the Polynesian theme, and I told him that, so now he says "Oh, well, so you're staying at a Polynesian hotel. Bucket list item crossed off." I've never seen the Royal Pacific though...or ANY universal resorts actually. I just read the description and chose that one. Maybe it will be nicer than the Poly....I have no idea. I hope so.

The unofficial guide for 2019 isn't out yet...I looked months ago and it comes out the end of this month. I'll be buying a copy for my brother and one for myself.

I'm so glad to see you! I was wondering where you were! I'm glad you have some "me" time, though. That's so important.

Yeah, that whole thing where he won't use Uber or Lyft makes planning more difficult. Until @ajrwdwgirl mentioned they rented a car from the Dolphin, I really had NO idea how to work it...I thought that was the answer to our problem, but now DH threw another monkey wrench into the plan. I think I'll wait until I get the unofficial guide and see what it says and go from there. I know I will get it figured out...I just wish I didn't have to figure it out AGAIN once I had the solution I wanted.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

I think it is nicer than the Poly ( just my opinion) and it is where we are looking at for our next Florida trip.
The theming seems to be more Thai etc part of the world rather than Polynesian.

For goodness sakes....it's so much cheaper to just use Lyft if you're going that short distance. My parents discovered it this trip. We've been using it to get to water parks and between hotels. They love it.
