I don't use a recipe exactly. Get out an 8 quart pot and make marinara. Make 2 pounds dried black beans. Core enough peppers to fill 2 turkey roasters. Make 2 pounds rice cooked with 2 very large onions, a bit of celery, a few tbsps. cumin a handful of allspice, the pepper trimmings and a nice large head of garlic crushed. Put some marinara in the bottom of the turkey roasters, mix the rice and beans together, stuff the peppers with the mix, top with the marinara, cover with parchment and then foil bake 350 for about an hour. Aren't you glad you asked;) edit I usually add some frozen chopped greens to the mix and serve with what marinara is left

Ha ha ha! So basically, divide your recipe by 20. 😂😂😂

I'm 2 1/2 or even 2 3/4 hrs from there. I've not been out there in almost 2 years because Mrs. Steve correctly points out that the gas and tolls make that 5 hours round trip on the road "a bit too far" just to go to my favorite eateries. She's right.....but I still want to
Well if she likes to shop you could say, but what about all the outlets? The pretzel factory tours are fun, and Hershey is as well. It's great for a long 4 day weekend. That makes it worth it. Turkey Hill now has a thing where you actually can make your own ice cream flavor and they will make it for you, for a price of course.

@figmentfan423 and @MySmallWorldof4 and any others, really..... I'm wondering if you have any healthy meal ideas/recipes that cost less than $5 for the whole meal (minimum of 2 servings)?
Quinoa salad. But of course the ingredients need to be purchased. For multiple servings it ends up being cheap. I make quinoa salad with spiralized zucchini, shredded carrots and cabbage. Top it with a ginger dressing made from almond butter, ginger, tamari, onion, rice vinegar, and water. I get the zucchini from my garden right now so that is free. I always seem to have the other ingredients on hand. But that is my favorite healthy salad right now.

Added to the list, thanks!!

I'm particularly interested in non-meat but still protein dishes. Or eggs. Lots of eggs. I like eggs. The older I get though, the less I like to eat red meat.

That's just crazy talk. I used to decide at about 10am that I was jonesing for a Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich and drive from Mid-Vermont to Montreal. Not a 2.5 hour drive but by the time you get into the heart of the city and find a place to park and then walk to Dunn's Deli on St. Catherine Street the timing is about the same. Have a sandwich (which by the way was at least 3 inches, if not more, thick) get back to the car and drive back home. Just looking at the picture has me drooling.

Ah ha! We understand each other well then :);)

Not including herbs and spices. Or cooking oil.

I have frittatas and omelets on the list.

I'm going to try to do like.... $12 a day for food for the foreseeable future. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and coffee (I'll miss you, Starbucks!!)
I make a veggie soup that my 7 year old loves. It is very cheap. I get frozen organic mixed veggies from Walmart. Under $3 for a bag. I use 2. Saute 1 onion and then put in the frozen veggies. Add 4 cups water or broth. Then I add a can of white organic beans. My supermarket sells a can for $.99. Let it cook til the veggies are all soft. Then I add it all to my blender. I add salt, a little turmeric for color(cause she calls it cheese soup), I add some nutritional yeast which can be omitted. Then blend it all and put it in the pot. You can add real cheese to it to make it gooey and cheesy. I will add cheese to her bowl with crackers since I don't do dairy. Very inexpensive, healthy, and yummy.

You can make your own Starbucks at home. Not exactly the same but not bad either. I get a large bag at Sam's and it seems to last quite a while even with my dh taking some to work. Aldi and Walmart seem to have the cheapest beans. A pressure cooker pays for itself in no time if you cook with dried beans. Frozen veggies and fruit in family sized bags are the cheapest except for farm markets. Coupons are your friend.
Yes. Walmart has organic frozen veggies and fruit that are cheaper than the supermarket. Organic bananas are cheap too. My breakfast smoothie today was a banana, frozen berries, dried coconut, and coconut milk. I will throw in spinach because you don't really taste it, but you don't have to. All of that per meal is cheap because the dried coconut comes in a big bag by Bob's Red Mill. Coconut milk at Walmart from So Delicious is cheap as well at Walmart. My supermarket charges $1 more than Walmart for it.
