I'm 2 1/2 or even 2 3/4 hrs from there. I've not been out there in almost 2 years because Mrs. Steve correctly points out that the gas and tolls make that 5 hours round trip on the road "a bit too far" just to go to my favorite eateries. She's right.....but I still want to
When we go out that way it's usually for a few days, in fact I don't thin anybody in my group has done a day trip since the airport closed in Hershey.

We got ours on a Black Friday sale from Prime Now. They delivered it Thanksgiving morning for less than it would have been at BF at Target. It's amazing. We have two dogs, and that thing doesn't skip a beat!

I complain about one ballet class at 6:15 on Tuesdays :hilarious::hilarious: I cannot imaging having to commit to something every weekday night! There's no time left for hiking and creeking and bike riding and walks in the rain.

I’m not upset about the 3 nights, just the 5:15 time is tough with my schedule. I’ll miss most of the practices. He withdrew from the school team, so this Fall will be a lot less hectic than spring! I’m glad he took a break and skipped summer training, but he’s ready to get back on the pitch and see his teammates again, along with some new faces. Goal keeper training should be interesting 😂. I’m not quite sure why he wants to do it when he’s primarily a striker or midfielder, but he’s excited about that the most. I never wanted to play or train for keeper. I think he just wants to dive over the mats.lol

Still plenty of time for bike riding etc, and he’ll get to play in the rain while at practice quite often. I’m just hoping for A LOT less heavy rain and lightening this season!

@figmentfan423 and @MySmallWorldof4 and any others, really..... I'm wondering if you have any healthy meal ideas/recipes that cost less than $5 for the whole meal (minimum of 2 servings)?

Including veggies, or counting homegrown veggies and herbs?

We had egg white fittatas this morning, with dill and spinach.. sliced cucumbers on the side. That would probably be under $5

Not including herbs and spices. Or cooking oil.

I have frittatas and omelets on the list.

I'm going to try to do like.... $12 a day for food for the foreseeable future. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and coffee (I'll miss you, Starbucks!!)

You can make your own Starbucks at home. Not exactly the same but not bad either. I get a large bag at Sam's and it seems to last quite a while even with my dh taking some to work. Aldi and Walmart seem to have the cheapest beans. A pressure cooker pays for itself in no time if you cook with dried beans. Frozen veggies and fruit in family sized bags are the cheapest except for farm markets. Coupons are your friend.

@21stamps and @dryerlintfan the cost is for all store bought ingredient. Most recipes are for 4 regular sized servings. Heck some cost under 5 even if feeding my boys.

I have a lot of “healthy meals under $5” saved on Pinterest.. they don’t make a lot of sense though.. one of them is stuffed peppers, which I love.. but unless you grow your own peppers then there’s no way to do it for $5.

I think there’s plenty of recipees that would probably come out that way if taking leftovers into account.. and even sandwiches or most breakfast foods.

Another suggestion on fruits and veggies- Do you have free community gardens at a park somewhere? If so, take advantage. Free and much better than store bought. :)

vegan stuffed peppers can be done if you buy peppers by the case or in quantity at farm markets.

That must be how they’re counting it. I usually by 4 at a time. I haven’t made vegan peppers, usually do turkey or veal. Can you share your recipe?
It’s been awhile since I’ve done stuffed peppers, may have to put that on the list this week.

I figured out I don't like actual coffee, but rather enjoy espresso drinks. So I got a Nespresso machine. Coffee is still $1 a day, but that's much better than the $4.85 I was paying daily at Starbucks!

We don't but we do have farmers markets and veggie stands :)

I think they count them as the "in season" price. Like, bell peppers are routinely $1.29 ish... but right now they're in season and you can pick them up at the local farm for 35 cents each.

I don't use a recipe exactly. Get out an 8 quart pot and make marinara. Make 2 pounds dried black beans. Core enough peppers to fill 2 turkey roasters. Make 2 pounds rice cooked with 2 very large onions, a bit of celery, a few tbsps. cumin a handful of allspice, the pepper trimmings and a nice large head of garlic crushed. Put some marinara in the bottom of the turkey roasters, mix the rice and beans together, stuff the peppers with the mix, top with the marinara, cover with parchment and then foil bake 350 for about an hour. Aren't you glad you asked;) edit I usually add some frozen chopped greens to the mix and serve with what marinara is left

I read that too fast and didn't read it as Marinara

I just bought a cold brew pitcher at Target for $15 to make my own cold brew decaf here at home. I am tired of paying $5 for a decaf latte since they never have just regular decaf made! I bought my own beans and will grind them or you can grind them at the store.

That's just crazy talk. I used to decide at about 10am that I was jonesing for a Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich and drive from Mid-Vermont to Montreal. Not a 2.5 hour drive but by the time you get into the heart of the city and find a place to park and then walk to Dunn's Deli on St. Catherine Street the timing is about the same. Have a sandwich (which by the way was at least 3 inches, if not more, thick) get back to the car and drive back home. Just looking at the picture has me drooling.
