I seriously considered going to Carleton, was even offered a pretty decent scholarship in an elite program, but being a year younger than the rest of my graduating class, I couldn't bear the thought of being so far from home.

So, I took the McMaster scholarship (big mistake), traveled back and forth every day (bigger mistake) and dropped out just before first semester exams.

On the plus side, because I was commuting daily, I was able to keep my weekend job, hooked up with Hubby @ that pizza joint, and nearly 30 years later ... the rest, as they say, is history.

I would like to have stayed at the University of Ottawa longer but being from out of the country it was really expensive. It was a great experience and I can't wait to go back.

We have them here too. Mean little buzzards too. Make the icky Canadian Geese look tame. The only thing we have here meaner are the Swans. Pea Brains

One day, I was walking with Jack near a pond with swans. For whatever reason, Jack thought they were vile and began barking his brains out. One of the larger swans waddled up on the side of the pond bank, and began flapping her wings like a bird possessed, which of course, just set off Jack even more  , who tried to lunge at the swan. Took all my might to hold him back from pouncing on the flapping wings swan, and finally I pulled him away and down the path.

In this case, I don't blame the swan, as there were baby swans (swan-lets? o_O HA!) in the water, and it probably was momma swan trying to scare off Jack, the big goon. :p

Well, I'm up ridiculously early (3:30 a.m.) because I have a cold. I haven't had a cold in about 2 years, at least. Woke up coughing, so just decided to go get some coffee and hang out here for a while. Have to get a 6:30 bus this morning anyway, so I might as well just stay up.

Stopped by Walgreens on the way home last night, to get some cold medicine (one of the nurses at work recommended one that had Advil in it). Haven't bought cold medicine in years, so I go to the aisle with the cold remedies and I find these cards in a slot, for the med. I want. It says you have to take the card up to the pharmacy desk to buy it. Okaaay . . . that's really inconvenient. So I take the stupid card up to the counter and the woman hands me the cold medicine. Then she asks for a driver's license (to purchase cold medicine??) and then I had to sign an electronic keypad to indicate that I wasn't public enemy # 1. I told the pharmacist that I was never getting sick again, because none of this wasted effort was worth it!!!

Woof...?!
Hope you're feeling better, by now. :)

It would have just moved Metcalfe west slightly and aded some green space around it. I think they could actually get rid of Metcalfe altogether. All historic buildings would have been moved. There were similar proposals when Mackenzie King was Prime Minister but they decided instead to make Elgin into a grand boulevard with the War Memorial at the end. Sparks St. is actually in kind of a sad state right now. It's not the vibrant shopping atmosphere it was in the 70's. The idea that a Metcalfe national mall would be too grand and un-Canadian was a popular complaint about the proposal. You know the old Canadian sentiment "good enough is good enough." That sentiment always upsets me though. Ottawa really could be by far the greatest capital in the world if it weren't for that sentiment.

I never did eat at D'Arcy McGee's but I did frequent the Highlander Pub on Rideau a lot. They have great bangers and mash. Dang, I need to book a flight.

Should have known Hubby bought the shirt:

And the sleeve, because he made me:

Bizarre how two photos of the same shirt, taken 20 seconds apart, can appear to be two totally different colours.
