Same for us in Little League. We had to bring a mitt, and that was it. Of course we bought a cheap bat from play it again sports so we could practice at home, but it wasn't mandatory. The parents were all responsible to volunteer as umpires, take turns bringing snacks, and work in the snack shack. But we only paid like $35 per kid for the season. This was back in the late 80's, early 90's

That’s awesome! I’m assuming we have Little League here, I’m not really sure. Everyone either plays for their school or a club baseball team as far as I know. There’s no way our school athletic club could afford to provide equipment for all of the players.
We do take turns bringing snacks and drinks to the school sports games, and we also have to either donate or volunteer at our festival, as well as at least 2 hours in the concession booth at the fields- but this is per year, not season.
Umpires are paid, coaches are not.

I always resupplied in Laramie in the Oregon Trail. I've never been there, personally, but definitely have an affinity for the town from that game, lol.

I loved that game!! It’s actually the name of my generation. ;)

Winner, winner, parmesan dinner
Yum...I LOVE eggplant parmesean. So delicious! There's an Italian restaurant "back home"....well, close. It's in Colorado, but we'd go there every once in a while for dinner and my favorite thing was a sampler that had Fettucini alfredo, lasagna, manicotti, eggplant parmesean and your choice of a meatball or piece of sausage. It was all SOO good and I didn't have to choose just one thing. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

I'm sure they're just too busy having fun to post anything
Yeah, they finally posted a video. It looks like they are having a great time, but it was the same group of about 7 girls that was in every shot in the video, and DD wasn't in that group. I did see her for about 3 seconds riding a bike with the whole group and she didn't look happy, and I saw her back for about 2 seconds as she walked into the ocean. That was it. Several of the parents commented on the video " Where are the boys?" because they don't appear much either. I think they must have just given the camera to the group of girls and said "Make some videos" and they did....just not of anyone but their friend group. But the beach/ocean looked fun...they all looked like they were having a good time, so I'm praying DD is enjoying it more than she thought she would.

Ha!! I don't remember any specific places from that game except Independence Rock. I've actually been there. Laramie is a really nice town. Lots to do because with the University there, there are always sporting events, theater, concerts, discussion panels, and of course a lot of restaurants, skating rink, mini golf, movie theater....always something to do there. And some pretty cool historical stuff there with the Territorial prison. It's worth a visit if you are ever passing through.

I hadn’t even heard about this! Odd.

Thank you!

This is so weird.

That must be frustrating! T goes to camp in August, I’m worried about the lack of communication as well. All they can do is write letters and receive letters.

Regarding the tornados - a Tornado scare me much more than a hurricane every could.

Wow that’s a lot all at once! Prayers that everything works out!!

Yeah, that’s just the participation fee due upfront. Then there’s ‘training fees’ ‘team fees’ ‘tournaments’ ‘uniforms’. Uniforms consist of 2 practice shirts, 2 shorts, 2 pair of socks, a Home Jersey, and an Away Jersey. Uniform orders must be placed by June 15th. Oh, and warmups to go over the uniforms.. I forgot about those. Luckily he should fit in his same pair of socks next Fall.:hilarious:
The team fees are for refs, and tournaments, they vary from 200-300 at T’s age, but those won’t be due until closer to the season itself.
Soccer is supposed to be one of the cheapest sports.. but adults have somehow found a way to make it obnoxious.
Our “custom” Home Jersey is a special custom color from Nike. It’s gray. Do we really need a custom gray? So stupid. The boys still have to change anytime they play against other gray team.

Sorry that I sound so sarcastic after being so upset a few days ago.. I just think my eyes are opened a bit more now. Youth sports really have become such a “business”.. it’s sad to see. I am happy for T though, even if I sound a little jaded at the moment.

Regardless, I have decided that he is not going to attend summer training. I’d rather him see a personal trainer Instead of 9 hours of training per week with the club. T needs a break. I need a break.
9 hours a week is a huge amount of time. Youngest summer cheer practice is 3 days a week starting in 2 weeks. It is 2 hours per practice. During the year it was 5 hours a week.

With Fall and Spring combined, because each will have seperate team fees, as well as all of the additional training, as well as indoor + futsal teams over the winter- way too much.
When I ordered the uniforms last Fall they were close to $300..he’ll be grown out of them soon, but I’m hoping the next order will last thru both Fall and Spring seasons. I do also let him pick out a new ball and shoes each season.
This will be our first year where we’ll have an entire calendar year with the club.. from my projections, it’s going to come out at somewhere in the 2-3 range.
I told him last Fall that if we do this, then there’s certain things that aren’t going to happen anymore, less weekend trips..as well as some local things that we may give up, Kings Island game cards being a prime example..I won’t reload it every time we go..I gave him a set amount in the beginning of the year, when it’s done, it’s done. He plays a lot less games at the park now. Luckily we were so busy over the spring that cutting back on weekend road trips didn’t even feel like it was a rule in the first place, we didn’t have time anyway.
At my kids' gym for teams, they propose to get new uniforms for the kids every 3 years because they can cost $300. They are getting new ones this year for everyone. What they do though, is that when the new season starts, kids can hand down to smaller kids the outgrown ones and charge about half of what they would cost new. It is up to the parent to charge what they want, but usually they will take half. The more glitzy they are with Swarovski crystals, the more expensive. The one in charge likes to be straight upfront with cost. You want glitz, you will pay more. There needs to be a nice medium. She wants to keep the cost this year at about $200. The girls have practice uniforms and luckily dd has not outgrown hers. They have about 9 competitions during the year and unless there is a blizzard where the roads are closed, they are never cancelled. The participation fee is usually $75. I will say that we get our money's worth probably because we are located where we are, (not in a metropolitan area). Costs are much less in terms of tuition which includes coaches fees.

It’s mostly when I get on here. It’s goes like this: Congratulations you have won.... it sometimes interrupts while I am typing which is highly annoying.
That has happened to me twice. Both times it was when I was away from home and I choose to utilize the public wi-fi.
Once at a hotel and the other time at a chain restaurant.
Funny thing was that yahoo and tripadvisor were fine, but as soon as I got on WDWMagic, that's when the spinning wheel with the "Congratulations" appeared. I powered down the phone and restarted it......didn't matter.....when I went back on Chit Chat I'd got what I assume is a virus.
Now on my phone I use google chrome for everything except this forum. If I'm on my phone and I want to chat with you guys I use Firefox's browser. I plan to resist going on this forum on public wifi from now on.
My 16 year old tried to solve the Chit Chat virus thing for me but nothing seemed to work.

I think so too. Worst of all it starts at 6pm.. this is summer, T’s at a pool, park, mini golf, amusement park, etc in the evenings.
If I get a private trainer, he can work in 1 hour and probably get more out of it than what he would in 2.5 hours with a bigger group. Plus hopefully we can schedule some morning as well.. but I’m not planning on every week.

Nice!! Our uniforms are only good for about 2 and a half years, then they change the entire kit for the whole club- because that’s what professional teams do, so why not youth?:cautious:

The fees become a lot more expensive as they get older, especially starting at 11U.. we’re in the inexpensive stage right now.
I have a cousin who just finished high school last year.. he played club from age 7 thru his senior year.. my aunt said they spent close to 100, total cost including travel and trainers. She has questioned if it was really worth the money and time.. and we’ve talked about the ridiculousness of it all.
I can only hope that someday the USA will see the errors in what they’ve turned youth sports into, and how many kids are now excluded.. Not every one of these kids is going to end up with a scholarship to a D1 school, most won’t, even with the clubs who have clout with college scouts and exhibitions. The percentage that become a professional soccer player is less than 1%. The problem is, parents are paying it.. so it probably won’t change, we all complain, but we all contribute. When I was a kid select soccer was maybe $500-$1000 per year, total, for the “prestige” clubs! Not every skilled soccer kid could do it then either, but at least a lot more than now. They also appeared to be more about the players back then, they were still super competitive, but I feel like my parents had more interaction with the coaches than I do now... it also took a lot more than a bad tryout to get removed or waitlisted.

Back then lacrosse, hockey, dance, gymnastics were the “expensive” mainstream sports. They still are, but there’s no reason to try to make soccer that way.

That movie as it was, would not have been made today. I find it hilarious. It is on Netflix or Amazon Prime. Saw it somewhere the other day.

We’re definity going to watch it! I’ll check Red Box, if not then iTunes should have it.
