I woke up to the news that a tornado hit just north of Laramie, Wyoming, but it seems no one was injured. There were some pretty spectacular videos of it. I'd be taking cover, but maybe that's just me. I find it difficult to judge distance in those wide open spaces. Who knows when it will barrel down on your house!!

But not a single picture from the school of the kids at camp. They weren't allowed to bring any phones or other electronic devices, but promised to post lots of pictures so we could see what our kids are doing. I keep looking it up and there's not a single one!!
I would want to see pictures. At least they should let you know the kids arrived safe.

OK, just got off the phone with my pop, and keep in mind, this was all well over 40 years ago... :cyclops:;)
Everything I've posted is correct, except for he said they did have to pay for the pants when we got into the two upper leagues, but, we also got to keep all of the uniform. He said he thinks they're all in a box somewhere deep in their attic...!!!!! :hilarious:
Also, he remembers the signup fee starting out for us around $35, and always being less than $50. Also, all of the coaches, umps, scorekeepers, etc. we're volunteers.

Just my uninformed assessment, but, it all just seems like so much more of some kinda' weird business now.
Back when myself and my bros, as well as my 12-year younger sis played, we, of course, wanted to win, but, if we didn't it wasn't the end of the world...it was just a game (as well as soccer) we loved playing!
We gave it our best, and we won and we lost games. I went to school with so many I played games with and against, and we would just laugh about most of the silliness that would happen!
Ultimately, of course, we all would have preferred to win, but, that's not how sports, or life in general, work (although, we all win by just doing what's right, and what we need to do for our family ;)).
Bottom line...life's a kooky (no, not a cookie...sorry, I sooooo want a cookie right now...!!!!! :joyfull:;)) thing, and taking it all too seriously is beyond stressful, as is taking it all too lightly...there needs to be a balance. :)

Same for us in Little League. We had to bring a mitt, and that was it. Of course we bought a cheap bat from play it again sports so we could practice at home, but it wasn't mandatory. The parents were all responsible to volunteer as umpires, take turns bringing snacks, and work in the snack shack. But we only paid like $35 per kid for the season. This was back in the late 80's, early 90's

I always resupplied in Laramie in the Oregon Trail. I've never been there, personally, but definitely have an affinity for the town from that game, lol.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think it was last year that they tried to rename ketchup in the Chicago market, where they put an entire salad on a hot dog, but god forbid you suggest ketchup.

What the heck is salad cream anyway? It looks like mayonnaise.
Much tastier than mayo. I would even eat veg with it.

My first thought was International house of breakfast. They don't have to change anything, it just is more broad than "pancakes". But, I have to wonder why....It's been IHOP for decades. Why change now?

I hadn’t even heard about this! Odd.

T will be thrilled! I think you're not excited because you're still worried about the NEXT time he has to do this again. But, there's no guarantee either way....he may have the best try out of his life next time. And hopefully the weather cooperates and he can actually get something out of it this time that helps him with his nerves. This is what he wants, right? And if he doesn't get to play and doesn't enjoy it, maybe he'll change his mind next season. Good luck!!
Thank you!

Maybe it was calculated by I-HOP leadership that this move would get the company a lot of free publicity. It sure has worked out like that. Yet, changing all the signs and menus to reflect the new logo or new name will be costly. I guess they know what they are doing o_O

This is so weird.

That must be frustrating! T goes to camp in August, I’m worried about the lack of communication as well. All they can do is write letters and receive letters.

Regarding the tornados - a Tornado scare me much more than a hurricane every could.

Yeah parents can be a real thrill sometimes, and this lady is a teacher in our district too. So she should know how it is. Her kid was at a B+, I think she wanted him at an A. He should have done the work for an A.

Thanks for your good vibes on the other situations. We haven’t heard any news about any of them. The boy that was in the accident is a church member so hubs is going to visit him today.

Wow that’s a lot all at once! Prayers that everything works out!!
Wow! That participation fee is way more than littlest dd's commitment to compete in cheer. You have to pay for coaching and tournaments on top of that, I assume.

Yeah, that’s just the participation fee due upfront. Then there’s ‘training fees’ ‘team fees’ ‘tournaments’ ‘uniforms’. Uniforms consist of 2 practice shirts, 2 shorts, 2 pair of socks, a Home Jersey, and an Away Jersey. Uniform orders must be placed by June 15th. Oh, and warmups to go over the uniforms.. I forgot about those. Luckily he should fit in his same pair of socks next Fall.:hilarious:
The team fees are for refs, and tournaments, they vary from 200-300 at T’s age, but those won’t be due until closer to the season itself.
Soccer is supposed to be one of the cheapest sports.. but adults have somehow found a way to make it obnoxious.
Our “custom” Home Jersey is a special custom color from Nike. It’s gray. Do we really need a custom gray? So stupid. The boys still have to change anytime they play against other gray team.

Sorry that I sound so sarcastic after being so upset a few days ago.. I just think my eyes are opened a bit more now. Youth sports really have become such a “business”.. it’s sad to see. I am happy for T though, even if I sound a little jaded at the moment.

Regardless, I have decided that he is not going to attend summer training. I’d rather him see a personal trainer Instead of 9 hours of training per week with the club. T needs a break. I need a break.

I'm sure it's rude to ask.... but what do you think the ballpark total would be for this year?

I don't think that the argument here is that bubbles are bad for kids, but rather that they're inconsiderate to the other people around the area. Especially when the area is a line queue or other place with limited room, or anywhere there is food.

I have bought my daughter a bubble wand, and she loves playing with bubbles. But I'm certainly teaching her to be considerate to the people around her when she uses them.

So you can buy her a $35 bubble machine but couldn't get her shiny shoes to meet the princesses in ;););)

With Fall and Spring combined, because each will have seperate team fees, as well as all of the additional training, as well as indoor + futsal teams over the winter- way too much.
When I ordered the uniforms last Fall they were close to $300..he’ll be grown out of them soon, but I’m hoping the next order will last thru both Fall and Spring seasons. I do also let him pick out a new ball and shoes each season.
This will be our first year where we’ll have an entire calendar year with the club.. from my projections, it’s going to come out at somewhere in the 2-3 range.
I told him last Fall that if we do this, then there’s certain things that aren’t going to happen anymore, less weekend trips..as well as some local things that we may give up, Kings Island game cards being a prime example..I won’t reload it every time we go..I gave him a set amount in the beginning of the year, when it’s done, it’s done. He plays a lot less games at the park now. Luckily we were so busy over the spring that cutting back on weekend road trips didn’t even feel like it was a rule in the first place, we didn’t have time anyway.

That's a really good life lesson for him!! Do the things you love that bring your life joy. But make sacrifices elsewhere so you can fit them in!

It also helps that he actually requests a lot of sports equipment for presents.lol. Christmas and Birthday..his baseball bat, shoes, and bag were all Christmas presents..and my dad gave him a new baseball glove. He still has another year with his golf clubs, those were a birthday present when he was 5.
I think he understands that they’re “extras”.

If my DD is any indication, you will have plenty of opportunity to make up for it...and then some.

She's already got around 25 pairs of shoes. We've separated them into practical shoes she can wear outside of the house, and impractical shoes she can only wear inside the house. So far, the concept is really working for us. Fingers crossed that it holds.
