Thrilled for you that school is over for the summer! Enjoy your time off!!

I still have to work a half day tomorrow, but no more kids. It was a crazy end of the year....

1. I had a crazy mom email about something she thought was unfair, he missed an extra credit opportunity and I said it was too late to make up, I pointed out to her (with multiple emails) that even if he had gotten all the points it wouldn't have changed his letter grade. However making corrections on his homework (which he didn't do) would have improved his grade. But she didn't care about that.

2. One of our teacher's aides had her son (30 years old) go missing and he is still missing.

3. Learned that a former student got pulled over and ran away from the cops and is still on the run.

4. One of my 8th graders got into a 4 wheeling accident this afternoon and has a severely fractured skull, brain bleed, and is in pediatric ICU.

Holy cow!

I think people like that are either frustrated at home- so start arguments and/or say outrageous things online to get their frustrations out, or- they have serious bullied syndrome issues, and come online putting people down in order to make themselves feel better.
I could be wrong, but I see quite a few people who do something similar, and that’s what I always think. I don’t see how anyone finds enjoyment in attacking/putting people down from behind a keyboard..so, I look at them as “amusing”.
The thing is that I used to see that those with science majors would be that way to business majors. Usually I would start asking them questions like, "Okay, what do I mean by present value of an annuity? You don't know? Well you should if you intend to buy a car someday." Or I would ask them the difference between straight line and compounding interest. And if they knew, I would ask them how to calculate it. That would shut them up pretty quickly.

Geez louise, the stupid stuff that inevitably happens where I work seems tame by comparison.

To interject a little "it's apparently in the Y chromosome" idea. I was doing that long before I ever heard of Evil Knievel. I like to think that Mr. Evil did that because of my influence. :joyfull:

Sure you do. ;)
Although, he was born a decade before you, was probably already doing it before you were born, and took it to a much "higher" :hilarious: level...!!!!! :D

God rest his soul... :angelic: ;)

I put him on ignore. I already deal with enough arrogant men who think they know more than me on a daily basis.

Spoiler alert - they don't know as much as they think they know.

I also work with some very nice men, so there's that. Nice women too, just fewer women than men in IT.

Yeah, sometimes I think I live and work in the twilight zone.
Crazy stuff.

I was about to say that we never had anything happen like that, but then I remembered when I was in middle school, two brothers and their parents were murdered by their older brother. It was terrible. I don't think any of us were ever the same after that.

Oh, and then there was that time one of my friends went missing for a week when I was in high school...scared us half to death. She was fine.

Nope, we were never required to have our own bat. And, actually, that article was, honestly, the first time I've heard of players/parents having to provide all that gear/stuff.
We could bring our own approved bats if we wanted to, but, there was always a plenty good selection in the team bat bag.
At home, back in the day, we had some old wood bats, and also some Oakland A's (we were living there when they won those 3-straight World Series from '72-'74!!!!!!! :joyfull:) bat day bats that we used for non-team practicing at a local park with my pop. My pop coached "C" league in our local Little League for many years, but, team gear he reserved for the team, not our private use.

I've posted this pic before...

Youngest bro was in C league, middle bro was in minor league, and I was in major league.
All we/our parents had to provide was the mitt and cleats.
Youngest bro got to keep the cap and t-shirt, middle bro got to keep the cap and jersey, and I got to keep the cap and under jersey.
At one time or another, I played every position on the field (mostly pitcher, shortstop, second base, third base, and left field), including catcher, and all that gear was provided.
This was at the time aluminum bats were first being used in Little League. At one point, I remember our team bat bags having about the same amount of wood and aluminum bats.
IIRC, the mom in that article paid $470 just for "gear" for her boy to play one season...not including any other expenses just for signup, etc.
Good grief...!!!!!!!

That’s great! Our leagues weren’t like that when I was growing up, or now with my kid. Parents and coaches supplied/supply everything with the exception of the fields, which the athletic dues do technically pay for.
How do the Little League teams have so much money to be able to provide all of that?

OK, just got off the phone with my pop, and keep in mind, this was all well over 40 years ago... :cyclops: ;)
Everything I've posted is correct, except for he said they did have to pay for the pants when we got into the two upper leagues, but, we also got to keep all of the uniform. He said he thinks they're all in a box somewhere deep in their attic...!!!!! :hilarious:
Also, he remembers the signup fee starting out for us around $35, and always being less than $50. Also, all of the coaches, umps, scorekeepers, etc. we're volunteers.

Just my uninformed assessment, but, it all just seems like so much more of some kinda' weird business now.
Back when myself and my bros, as well as my 12-year younger sis played, we, of course, wanted to win, but, if we didn't it wasn't the end of the world...it was just a game (as well as soccer) we loved playing!
We gave it our best, and we won and we lost games. I went to school with so many I played games with and against, and we would just laugh about most of the silliness that would happen!
Ultimately, of course, we all would have preferred to win, but, that's not how sports, or life in general, work (although, we all win by just doing what's right, and what we need to do for our family ;)).
Bottom line...life's a kooky (no, not a cookie...sorry, I sooooo want a cookie right now...!!!!! :joyfull: ;)) thing, and taking it all too seriously is beyond stressful, as is taking it all too lightly...there needs to be a balance. :)

Omg.

We’ve been at baseball.. just checked my email..

T WAS OFFERED A POSITION ON HIS SAME SOCCER TEAM.
View attachment 288150

Why do I not feel more excited about it? I’ve been staring at it for 3 minutes now.. haven’t even told him yet.
T will be thrilled! I think you're not excited because you're still worried about the NEXT time he has to do this again. But, there's no guarantee either way....he may have the best try out of his life next time. And hopefully the weather cooperates and he can actually get something out of it this time that helps him with his nerves. This is what he wants, right? And if he doesn't get to play and doesn't enjoy it, maybe he'll change his mind next season. Good luck!!

Hahaaa...!!!!! :hilarious: Indeed!!!
Believe me, if they would let me color 'em at this early stage, I would... :(;)

I'll be happy to anonymously send a box of these to your boss -- think he'll get the hint?! ;) :p

Well, there's just no reasoning with an irate parent who thinks their child is perfect. Are you required to offer extra credit? Isn't that kind of the point of extra credid work? That it's extra because you didn't do what you needed to do in the first place? So why didn't he just do what was expected of him? He had every opportunity to up his grade....it's his choice if he doesn't want to make use of it.

Sorry to hear about those other things! So sad! I hope they find the missing man and that the 8th grader recovers. That's not a very nice start to Summer vacation!!

Wow. First of all, it must be "interesting" dealing with the parents of kids. Because I'm so far removed from school, I think of teachers instructing their students only. I completely missed the other aspect of teaching--parents!

I hope the missing son returns safe and sound.

I also hope that the former student sees the light and that he/she turns him/herself in.

Prayers to the 8th grader in the accident--the injuries sound serious.
