I've had one of my cars for 11.5 years. The thing is a clunker, for sure, but it still runs and gets us from A to Z.

Our last car (a 1997) we had for 14 years, and it was only because the car was rusting out that we finally got rid of it. the (used) car we have now is a 2007 Chevy Aveo, and we've had it over 4 years now. Point A to Point B and that's all we care about--will drive it until the wheels come off.

Is it celeriac or kohlrabi? It looks too smooth on the bulb part but maybe?

WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KOHLRABI:hungry::hungry::hungry::hungry:

Never had that. Probably ignored it in the supermarket cause I have never seen that in the organic section. What does it taste like?

A PSA for all---

Today is the last day of school for the kiddos and just a half day. We are supposed to take them to the park this morning but thunderstorms are happening now so I guess we’ll have to think of a different plan. Probably gym time. We did take the kiddos on their reward trip to Valleyfair, a regional theme park, yesterday and the weather for that was gorgeous. They all loved it!

Thrilled for you that school is over for the summer! Enjoy your time off!!

Sorry, not following this based upon your recent posts?

He was placed 1st on the waitlist after tryouts.. meaning they we’re still debating either adding him or if another kid declined (the latter is usually what happens).
That’s what I was trying to explain in my last post.. Some kids try out for multiple clubs, sometimes they do it to make sure they get on a team, and trying out for multiple clubs increases their chances... sometimes they do it because they really do want to switch.

Within 72 hours of tryouts, for any club, you either get offered a position, declined, or you’re one of the few kids who get waitlisted.. Waitlisted because the club thinks they want you, but they saw someone who performed better overall at tryouts, and that kid gets offered it first.

T only tried out for the one club, last year and this year.. it’s the only soccer club that he wants to play for.
This whole thing has been a rollercoaster and has kind of soured me a bit. I just told T, he was jumping up and down.. so it looks like we’re accepting regardless of my feelings.

O.k. Thanks for the explanation. Don't blame you AT ALL for feeling less than happy with the latest result, after all this.

You and he can decide whether he plays with this team or not. But even if he does decide to go with the team, he needs to keep in mind that in 6 months, this ridiculous try-out fiasco will repeat itself all over again--and he may or may not be able stay on the team in the future, due to this.

I was a little confused at the every 6 months.. this offer is thru Spring of 2019.. but they do still have to try out again in November..apparently they can be moved up at that time, but it’s rare that they get moved down..either way they can’t be asked to leave the club based on that tryout performance. It’s all so confusing to me. Sooooo different from my soccer days.

This is where Kids/Parents can accept or reject. You must accept within 48 hours.
Apparently another kid must have rejected the offer.

He's so naive. My gosh, was I ever that naive? I hope not.

And arrogant. He has a god complex, it seems. My long-time friend once told me she was going to PA school and not med school because she had no desire to have a god complex.

He'll be in for a rude awakening later in life...

I think people like that are either frustrated at home- so start arguments and/or say outrageous things online to get their frustrations out, or- they have serious bullied syndrome issues, and come online putting people down in order to make themselves feel better.
I could be wrong, but I see quite a few people who do something similar, and that’s what I always think. I don’t see how anyone finds enjoyment in attacking/putting people down from behind a keyboard..so, I look at them as “amusing”.

Oops @donaldtoo and @figmentfan423 I didn’t mean to quote you above, so pretend I did it here. ;)

You guys weren’t required to have your own bat when you were a kid? I was.

My dad played in a competitive softball league until @ 40s when he his hips and shoulders (4th shoulder surgery) all needed to be replaced. My father is why I’m one of the few parents who aren’t complaining about the “new”-ish pitch count rules. I saw what a few decades of baseball did to my dad’s body.

I’m not understanding the complaints about the new bat rules. I don’t even think ****’s or any baseball shop sells bats that aren’t regulation. Maybe they do though.

We’re not in Little League, but our bat standards sound similar. Bats come in a wide range of price points and quality though, same with gloves, or cleats etc.. I don’t think the rules required every family purchase a $200 bat for the young kids. I hope not, baseball gear is expensive, but still less than sports like lacrosse which would be the competing same-season sport, so hopefully that would keep them in. I’d hate to see more kids quit baseball. The US is losing enough already. :(

Nope, we were never required to have our own bat. And, actually, that article was, honestly, the first time I've heard of players/parents having to provide all that gear/stuff.
We could bring our own approved bats if we wanted to, but, there was always a plenty good selection in the team bat bag.
At home, back in the day, we had some old wood bats, and also some Oakland A's (we were living there when they won those 3-straight World Series from '72-'74!!!!!!! :joyfull:) bat day bats that we used for non-team practicing at a local park with my pop. My pop coached "C" league in our local Little League for many years, but, team gear he reserved for the team, not our private use.

I've posted this pic before...

image.jpeg

Youngest bro was in C league, middle bro was in minor league, and I was in major league.
All we/our parents had to provide was the mitt and cleats.
Youngest bro got to keep the cap and t-shirt, middle bro got to keep the cap and jersey, and I got to keep the cap and under jersey.
At one time or another, I played every position on the field (mostly pitcher, shortstop, second base, third base, and left field), including catcher, and all that gear was provided.
This was at the time aluminum bats were first being used in Little League. At one point, I remember our team bat bags having about the same amount of wood and aluminum bats.
IIRC, the mom in that article paid $470 just for "gear" for her boy to play one season...not including any other expenses just for signup, etc.
Good grief...!!!!!!!

Yup, that one wiped the hell out of all the tuned up Mustangs in the race..
Mostly because the track (thanks to the wind) had a lot of dirt, and the Audi has traction all 4 tires.

Ironically, the guy who owned it was a young dude who played in a popular soccer team. He seems to like to show up his Audi.

Also, while the club is for Mustangs, other teams and groups were in the gathering too. Including some classic ones.. And some guys with.. well.. generic cheap Hondas tagging along. :hilarious:

Hahaaa...!!! :hilarious:
Cool!
In the last pic, the one in the front looks like about a 1939 Ford coupe, and the truck looks like about a 1957 Chevy...?
Fun stuff...!!! :)
