Just booked my August WDW flights. $132 going down, $101 coming back. Coming back at 10 pm and not landing until after midnight, but who cares. May just work from home the next day. My dad when I told him the plan of coming back super late to save $20...
Our flight home from our cruise is at 9:35 pm which puts us in Cleveland after midnight. We're one of the first off the ship so we booked a room at LaQuinta to spend the time that day. Swimming and napping.

My first one was a black, off-the-shoulder coctail dress...really cute, and only $50 2nd hand. I was shocked because I didn't think my mom would let me get an off-the-shoulder dress, or one that was short. I had fallen in love with it immediately but didn't even show my mom because I thought she'd say no way. Then she pointed it out and said "What about this one?" I loved loved loved that dress!! My Senior year was not the nicest. I still have it...it was wine-colored velvet. It was a last minute purchase for $40. My boyfriend bailed on me because he had a band gig that night, he said. He lived so far away and he didn't want me to have to drive so far to come to his prom again, and he had a gig on the night of mine. Really, I think he just didn't want to be the jerk to break up with me, so he just made excuses. So by that time, most everyone already had dates, and I'd ask someone that I'd heard was free only to be told they had a date from the next town over. I asked a guy from the speech and debate circuit and he turned me down. Asked another and he agreed, but then canceled when his transportation fell through. So I was without a date until 2 days before. A guy who I'd grown up with had gone to the alternative school in the other town, and since he wasn't a student at our school, he could only go to our prom if he had a date from the school, and he really wanted to go because all his friends went to our school. So we agreed to go together, but that meant I needed a dress. Where do you get a formal dress 2 days before prom?? Technically, I don't think it was considered a formal dress, but it was the closest I could come at the last minute and it wasn't like it was a real date, so it didn't really matter.

My dresses were so hideous when I look back at them. Sophomore dance was a dark blue satin, hit right at my knees. I remember feeling so grown up in it. I thought it was beautiful then, not so much now.
I went to my brother school’s junior prom that year too, I think I wore a tight sequined dark blue dress with spaghetti straps, about an inch or two above the knee.

My junior prom (the phantom theme) I wore a black sequined dress, long, with a slit up the side. I can’t even remember what I wore to bro school’s homecoming or their senior prom, the dresses must not have been too special. ;)

My senior prom I wanted an off white satin dress, long with a low back.. searched forever and couldn’t find one like I envisioned in my mind. Parents said “no” to getting one made, so I ended up with a royal blue short sequined dress, this time strapless.

For my brother school’s senior prom that year I wore a short velvet purple dress, halter straps and sweetheart neckline. Omg I loved that dress, also laugh at it now.
Senior dance I wore another blush colored halter dress as well, and for another boy’s prom I borrowed a dress from a girlfriend who had graduated the year before. His senior dance I finally found an off white satin, but it was knee length and a cascading neck and lowish back. I loved it! Have no idea what I wore to bro school’s homecoming that year either.

Every dress was so “90s”, but I kept the white one for a few years, actually wore it to a Navy “dining out” event 2 years later.

I wonder if our velvet dresses were similar.lol. I don’t remember the cost of any of mine, but they couldn’t have been too expensive, I went to a lot of dances and there’s no way my parents would have spent a lot of money on them. I think for my own proms they may have spent more.

I went to an all girl’s school so we didn’t have our own homecoming dances or marches or king and queen etc.. most of us dated guys from the all boy’s school which was considered our “brother school”, or at least had friends from there, so the majority of the girls at those dances were from my school, which felt like it was our dance too. ;)

Has anyone done Ancestry DNA? I'm reading the constant form.....which makes me not want to do it but I want to do it anyway.

Go for it. I don’t totally understand it..and the whole thing kinda creeps me out.. but I guess it could provide more info for your family tree if it doesn’t go back as far as you’d like.

At this point if you can get a white one that fits maybe you should just dye one. I'd just go a size up and make a few darts in it.

Every word in this sentence is way above my capabilities. :hilarious:

I have 3 dresses hanging that are finished except for the hems(I'm waiting for them to drop):joyfull: Only one is for me:(

Question, why does tailoring take so long? I was given an eta of one week just for T’s pants to be hemmed, 3 weeks to take the pants, vest, and jacket in. I used to get a lot of clothes tailored, mostly just straps shortened or pants taken in.. also jeans back when they were made to be hemmed (glad that trend went away!).. and I’ve never understood the “you’ll have them back in a week” norm.

Wow, my mom taught for almost 40 years and never got anything like this. I guess it just depends on the schools. Our PTA puts a majority of their fundraising towards things the schools/students need. Teacher appreciation is usually a catered breakfast from the local bakery.

I don’t know if every school does the following, but we have quarterly PTA dues. Maybe technically they aren’t mandatory, but I know we have 100% participation. We also do a ton of donations, so instead of using the money from the PTA fund, we’re all providing the items needed for things like teacher appreciation week. They do lunches for the kids once per month and a few other kid’s events out of the budget.. PTA money actually paid for a lot of Emmaus Day activities, and they contribute to the 8th grade graduation activities. Also to “big sib/little sib” events 8th/1st grade.. there was a few kindergarten events as well.

Our school is fond of “blackmail” ;)...almost everything- PTA dues, fund raisers, box tops, energy kits.. etc etc etc.. is all tied to Out of Uniform days. No one wants to send their kid in uniform on the specified day. :cautious:

I honestly couldn’t be any happier with out teachers so far. T’s homeroom teacher this year is amazing. Prior to the school year she sent a hand written card telling T (and all of her students) a little about herself, and how excited she was to have him in his class. She’s a huge Bengals fan, and included that tidbit in the card as well. He was thrilled.lol. They did brackets for every game during football season and whoever “won” received a no written homework pass.. there were also squares for the entire class to have no written homework. In the beginning it was a little bit of an adjustment because she is very strict about personal responsibility.
I forgot to sign his planner one night the first month of school, T came to the car crying the next day because he received a “color” for not having the planner signed. I emailed her and explained that it was my fault, she wrote back “It’s his planner, and it’s his responsibility to make sure that you sign it.” I was a little shocked, but I like it. :). They have “jobs” in the classroom and rotate them weekly, she also rotates the seating arrangements once per month. I’ve never had a kid in 2nd grade before, so maybe all teachers do that now.. but I hope that we continue to get teachers like the one he has this year, I’m going to be sad when he moves out of her class.
We had planners that needed signed all through elementary school. I'm guilty of not signing them too and she also got a color mark. (Oops!) Must be using the same program. The "jobs" in the classroom is to teach responsibility.

The one week eta is to give them enough time depending on how backed up they are. Pants are cut on the straight grain which means they can be hemmed as soon as they're marked. Anything cut on the bias like a circle skirt shoul be hung to let the hem drop for a few days so it's even after wearing. Hope that helps
