Go for it. I don’t totally understand it..and the whole thing kinda creeps me out.. but I guess it could provide more info for your family tree if it doesn’t go back as far as you’d like.

Every word in this sentence is way above my capabilities. :hilarious:

You'd be surprised! There are dying methods where you basically just throw them in the wash. Easy peasy.

The one week eta is to give them enough time depending on how backed up they are. Pants are cut on the straight grain which means they can be hemmed as soon as they're marked. Anything cut on the bias like a circle skirt shoul be hung to let the hem drop for a few days so it's even after wearing. Hope that helps

That was actually really informative!! I don't ever plan on sewing my own skirts, but I'll remember that for when my daughter shows interest!

YUP! A few lessons and a basic machine would have paid for itself by now;)
My grandmother used to sew, knit, and crochet.. she made a lot of outfits for my mom and her sisters when they were young, also some for me when I was little. My mom could knit and crochet, and do basic sewing.
I went thru a stage where I wanted to make my own curtains.. looked in to sewing classes, then decided that I just didn’t have the patience. I think after this fiasco I may learn how to do at least the basics!

If nothing else you should lean how to do hemming and button replacement. Seeing T is slim you should also learn to run a straight stitch so you can take things in. As I said find a local sewing machine store. Most give at least one lesson included with purchase and give additional classes as needed.

Same. I can craft almost anything, but when it comes to sewing it's a huge nope from me. I cannot sew in a straight line, and more often than not trying to sew results in me throwing my pin cushion across the room in frustration. My husband sews though, so he normally handles any simple job. We pay for a professional to do more complicated things or ask his mom, who was a seamstress before retirement.

If you have problems with a straight line Put painters tape on the machine where you want the edge of the fabric. BTW peeps will work for wine:D

No
Has anyone done Ancestry DNA? I'm reading the constant form.....which makes me not want to do it but I want to do it anyway.
I want to do it at some point, though I'm kind of thinking I'll do the 23 and Me one with the health results. If I decide to get married, I should know whether I'm a Tay Saks carrier (my grandfather was) just in case.

I'm also interested to know the ancestry results. I know I'm a mixed bag of European DNA, but I've also got Native American in me, and we found out recently that one of my dad's ancestors was an escaped slave. So that would be interesting to know as well

I don’t know if every school does the following, but we have quarterly PTA dues. Maybe technically they aren’t mandatory, but I know we have 100% participation. We also do a ton of donations, so instead of using the money from the PTA fund, we’re all providing the items needed for things like teacher appreciation week. They do lunches for the kids once per month and a few other kid’s events out of the budget.. PTA money actually paid for a lot of Emmaus Day activities, and they contribute to the 8th grade graduation activities. Also to “big sib/little sib” events 8th/1st grade.. there was a few kindergarten events as well.

Our school is fond of “blackmail” ;)...almost everything- PTA dues, fund raisers, box tops, energy kits.. etc etc etc.. is all tied to Out of Uniform days. No one wants to send their kid in uniform on the specified day. :cautious:
I mis-posted, we have a PTO not PTA so no dues to rely on. I think it depends on the fact every school system has different dynamics. We are a rural county school district that's struggling. No uniforms, every sport and band is pay-to-play and two years ago we almost didn't have high school bussing but a levy barely squeaked by. All our school buildings were built between 1910 and 1954. The teaching staff do the best they can with what they have and are phenomenal at it.

We don’t use common core in our school. We have some elements, but our curriculum is not based on it. Thankfully!!!
Lucky you! I hate common core. If you know the answer, and it's correct, why do you have to constantly show how you got that answer. One paper my daughter got an F (which I excused her for) because she wrote CALCULATOR for a few answers. :joyfull: Smarty pants.

I may have said this before, but in preschool, the first time we received a Shutterfly valentine with kids picture on it , I was SHOCKED. I sent T to school with store bought valentines and mini play doh containers.. I couldn’t believe what he came home with! That’s when I realized that things are very different today.
I can’t blame anyone but myself for the Pinterest inspired bento box lunches, smile face post its inside, and sandwiches cut into shapes with PBK sand which cutters.:hilarious: (I stopped that in K..now his boxes are not photo worthy, and I haven’t put in a post it note except for special test days, who knows where my sandwhich and fruit cutters are now ;) )
My mom stayed home with us and didn’t even do that. I don’t know who decided to start this trend, but everything you said is spot on. Pinterest is the best and worst thing to happen to parents!

I know you work outside of the home too, so I think you can relate to the weird “competition” thing of stressing over what our kid brings on holidays etc. It’s not even that I want to be in competition with the army of SAHM’s...I just don’t want my kid to stick out or feel bad that his mom can’t find the time to do the same for gifts etc... if that makes sense?
I'm a SAHM and never believed in Keeping Up with the Pinterest Joneses. 🙄 Every Valentine's Day it was dollar store valentines and candy and every Christmas was dollar store cards taped to snack packs of chips. I refuse to go above and beyond to impress someone with something the kid will forget about as soon as they get home. I think kids are more excited to make their valentine box than what gets put inside.

I had to quote this part because this is what makes me sad about childhood today. They’re not doing this. Everything is scheduled play dates. We do have a few kids in the neighborhood, and they do play together, but not even close to when I was a kid.. when I was growing up it was “come home when the street lights come on”.

Back then we didn’t have indoor playgrounds, trampoline parks, bounce houses, indoor go cart tracks, etc etc etc etc. We had our back yards and the swim club, zoo, museum, and amusement park. Not even 1/10th of “kid activities” that exist today. We also didn’t have so many day/holiday ‘camps’.

It’s a strange world now, there’s things that I wish still existed i.e. riding your bike to a friends house and ringing the doorbell.
All those things you're lamenting still happen. Too many parents just don't let them happen.

Thank you friend. I'm sure that we'll be happy to hear the fun stories. For me it will be weird to wake up on Fri., Sat. and Sun mornings and she'll be away. For my wife it might be more than weird. It'll be a BIT sad or lonely. Yet it is good in a way. This sophomore girl will mature eventually to become a college freshman....it's over 2 years from now....but it's coming closer every day. We'll eventually face more than 4 days without her. So.... Enjoy every moment 'til then...right?
Every summer since she was 9 my daughter spends a month in Indiana with my ex's family. When she really irks me (when isn't often) I tell her "I can't wait for you to go to Indiana!" Then when she's gone for a few weeks it's "I can't wait for you to come home!" :joyfull:

Oh, its just..

Lets just say that you haven't sleep well for weeks. You have too much things to think (like school exams, thesis, etc..), you are swamped with things to worry about (like bills).

Your body literally goes into automated mode. When you try to remember what you did, you simply do not remember.

Example, walking from your home to the bus stop then paying the bus with cash.
Then I finally regained my composure.. I do not even remember walking nor paying!

Others times... like getting food.. and not remembering opening the fridge or even preparing the food at all.
Its like vanished time for you. You're just "doing" these actions with zero thinking with an empty mind.

I just named this "zombie mode".
I've been in zombie mode a lot the past month.
