When school is out, I get to go on vacation!
I know I'm the unusual teacher. I much prefer teaching to summer vacation. I realize ajrwdwgirl is speaking as a parent. A whole different point of view :)

Weā€™re actually doing something really neat for Teachers Appreciation Week this year.. my favorite of the past few years anyway.

Weā€™re buying large beach bags for each.. then stuffing them with summer ā€œmust havesā€ - magazines, lotions, Graeters (an ice cream shop) gift cards, beach towel, picnic supplies, baked goods, etc etc. Weā€™re also making lunch every day that week.
Definitely a group effort. The PTA sent out a signup genius page and most parents contributed a few things, some several. I hope the teachers enjoy the gifts and the week! They definitely deserve it!

I think itā€™s always so tough to figure out teachers gifts for holidays/appreciation/end of year before summer break. Iā€™m always worried that a gift will get banished to a junk pile or that weā€™ve given something that everyone else has already given..lol. Iā€™m sure you two have encountered that a lot over the years. Teachers should send out a ā€œwish list for giftsā€ with their introduction emails before school starts every year ;). Help us parents out!

That is above and beyond. I am so impressed. The teachers will be thrilled I'm sure.

Anyone know why the seedlings we planted that were flourishing, are no limp and sad looking? I donā€™t think we overwatered them. We did take them outside during the day over the weekend to get direct sunlight. Think that was the problem?

Could have been too much pressure exposure too quickly. They have to aclimate over a week or so. They'll likely bounce back but they'll be a free weeks behind. We made that mistake once and the plants had just as many blooms and fruits.

We normally bring in donuts but this year we're going to buy some special supplies the center doesn't buy that her teachers want.

I hope so! It sounds neat.. I only mentioned a few of the items.. thereā€™s so many!

I only signed up for a couple of packs of taco shells and 3 magazines. I purposely stayed away from the ā€œhomemade baked goods listā€, and all of the gift card slots were already taken.lol.

Iā€™m still not sure what T will give to his teachers. I played it safe the past 3 years at Christmas with Yankee Candles inside of a Christmas themed tin.lol. Appreciation week we usually just do a gift card, but T says ā€œthatā€™s no fun!ā€ So, heā€™s picking the gifts this year. Should be interesting. ;)

I am a teacher, but I am not a parent. At least not to a human child, I have a 6 year old baby girl schnauzer.

I will agree with you though if you enjoy teaching more than summer vacation! ;) I like my job, but I much more enjoy having the summer to do all the things I like to do whenever I want. I always have a ton of projects and little things I want to do that I just don't have time or energy to do during the school year and summer breaks from work allow me to do those and recharge for the next year.

I wish we got those teacher appreciation gifts. When we were in Cincinnati hubs and I had Graeters ice cream and it was delicious! You can send me a gift card to that place any day, I could order it online!:)

Wow! Things vary by community I guess. Teachers in my school are honored by the PTA with a lovely deluxe lunch. We do not (as far as I know) receive any gift from individual kids. I'm happy with chicken parmesan and some sincere sentiments :)

I donā€™t know how you guys do it.. I really donā€™t. I have so much respect for teachers..I may have selfishly complained earlier, about the nights when put it all together.. but it definitely wasnā€™t because I donā€™t value what the teachers do every single day! :)

I went against etiquette and just asked :hilarious::hilarious:

I see Tā€™s homeroom teacher at conferences a couple of times per year, but I never see his other teachers after orientation night.lol. I always ask the school secretary, (who always gives a ā€œtheyā€™ll like whatever you get!ā€ non-answer) ...I should probably just email the teachers themselves!
