It is normally my Mom that calls. I haven't had a land line in years, I rarely call anyone and the ones I do call are generally elderly. We have been a texting family forever long before any of us had iphones. Its quick, to the point and done or a photo with do you want this? A phone call can't do that. It worked in Disney at Epcot this last trip, couldn't find my family in Epcot. Stopped took a pic of a France Icon visible from where I stood in the dark just before Illuminations. "I'm here, where are you?" Photo came back of them on the bridge from Entrance to France. I love my iPhone. When I find myself wait in a longer than expected line somewhere I'll play on Twitter, check my alerts or CNN headlines, mindless stuff to pass the time. Now I want a 10x like my family has. Phone envy. I actually try not to email either, found that became a burden.
My two living grandparents are actually big texters. Grandma is very much into technology. She's got two tablets,a laptop, an iPhone, and she uses Facebook. She's 78. Just decided she wanted to know how to use it. She's actually pretty decent, although recently she tried to tell me that at 78, she knows everything, to which I said, "Uh huh. Next time you can't get your printer to work, I'll remind you of that.":hilarious:

Granddad doesn't hear well at all, so he texts. He also has figured out how to do most things online, like shopping and banking, so that he doesn't have to worry about hearing someone.

I prefer to text myself, unless it's to talk to my mother. Then I prefer to talk, mostly because she doesn't answer texts very well...

That is an interesting review. Haven't heard interesting attributed to the film. I haven't seen it and probably won't until it comes out on DVD.

Lol. I was on my phone. I hate typing anything long on my phone. Which I got rid of Verizon on Friday :)

Star Wars wasn't as bad I thought it would be though it wasn't any better either. I know Star Wars has to get past the main characters but the new characters just suck. Kylo was his usual emo self. Rey was like Harry Potter was in Book 5. Finn is just there like other than being there for PC purposes, he doesn't do anything other than yell and scream like Poe. Some scenes could have been cut. Luke and the animal. Leia Poppins was just bad. The audience didn't get to know where Snoke came from then again Darth Maul was the same. Too much going on but at the same time the plot didn't seem to really move anywhere for half the movie.

I loved the porgs though.

I know people hated the Esp 1 - 3 but I didn't mind them. They felt like Star Wars but they actually had new ideas. These new ones are basically the same as the original. Order comes within one inch of blowing everything up but the rebels with rubbish equipement ends up saving the day.

Though I loved Rogue One.

I am the opposite. I would rather call and speak to someome than text as you can read messages the wrong way as there is no inflection in it. Plus when i am at Disney and queueing i people watch or even (in a push) talk to Donna ;)
Very true about being misunderstood with texts. I carefully read what I type before I send as I hate misunderstandings.:)

Yeah, my Uncle does all tech well including his phone but he was always the type to 'keep learning' so new updates to his computer or a new phone did not bring on any meltdowns and he is 90. He is the rare elderly that I know that totally embraced tech. I've embraced tech more than I give myself credit for but I am a far cry from my kids especially my DD.

My Mom will read her email and she is out. She has a basic cell, takes it with her but doesn't turn the freak'n thing on. So yes she can reach someone in an emergency but nobody in the same situation can reach her out of the house. It was a real problem when my Dad was in and out of hospitals for 7 months, then they'd call me like as if I could find her. Did I mention that my Mom was the English HS teacher for the English Tech Lab? She never progressed beyond the floppy disk era.

@MySmallWorldof4 , although I mostly text or e-mail people, I sometimes seek out a colleague or the principal to say something face to face.....because of exactly what you said. The typed word...text or e-mail...there is no vocal inflection. If I fear my words will be read with a completely different tone or mood and be misunderstood....I play it safe and look into their eyes and say what I have to say.

My texts to my family are pretty direct not much could go wrong with them and the same that I receive from family and friends. Lunch Friday? 12:30? MBurger on West 1st street, see ya then type of messages.

As I've said before I don't hear well. Put me in Epcot in an Illumination crowd, music I'm not going to understand what is being said on my phone in those type of situations. Plus I can glance at a text quickly in situations where I can't answer a phone and do a quick reply if necessary. In a queue at Disney I'm less inclined to play with my phone though my family tends to. Now a long line at the Mall, Bank or Grocery store (usually understaffed) I will in a heartbeat play on my phone 'cause I don't want to watch those people in those queues with me they are likely as frustrated. So its the phone or pick out spot on rug and stare.

You can also give exact map coordinates as well, making finding people or things very easy.

Considering "synergy" I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to push other stuff to answer these questions.
Like TV shows, cartoons, etc.. and push for even more consumerism.

I went to go to the gym, turn to the phone and saw it was -3F and decided to hibernate instead but I'm seeing Star Wars later.

I was leaving my DD building at the same time as one of her neighbors. As soon as we walked across the sidewalk into the asphalt parking lot we both in tandem fell. Me being almost 2x his age fell far more gracefully than he did. That lot was wet 30 minutes prior when I arrived and frozen ice exiting the building. It was black ice, it just looked wet.

Be careful! I'm glad you didn't get hurt.

Come here little groundhog....I have this pretty little thing called a sling shot to show you. :angelic:

We are having an ice storm. Everything is now encased in ice. The weather report is saying shortly we will start getting snow on top of that ice layer. :cautious:
