Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Lovely and eloquent reminder for the new year.

As we count down to the new year, we get to reflect and prepare for what’s ahead. For all the bad news that seemed to dominate our collective consciousness, there are countless stories from this year that remind us what's best about America.

Happy New Year! I unfortunately have no fireworks photos because the kids had just barely gone outside when one of the neighbors, who use the big huge commercial grade fireworks that cost 25 bucks for one rocket, set off a really big rocket, which exploded and then shot into DD's leg on its way down. Fortunately for her, she said it was no longer hot, so she didn't get burned, but she does have a pretty spectacular bruise on her leg. That kind of put an end to the fun. DS and DH continued to light the rest of our fountains (we don't do the big fireworks) and DD and I watched from inside. I was inside anyway because I still have a fever. I hope the rest of you have a nicer transition into the new year. I'm going to bed.
Sympathy like. Hoping you and your dd are all better today xoxo

And its been a while since I've worked for the airline but it was always once the plane pushed back they were in route, sometimes they'd really hustle (oops left a cart of luggage behind) to pull that jetway and push that plane back before the crew expired.

I was transferring a special needs passenger from one flight to a connecting flight and they were holding it for my passenger since she was already de-planed and elderly. I guess the gate agent told the pilot the passenger was onboard, true I was getting her settled in her seat and I heard that chilling sound of the boarding door closing and latching and saw the jetway starting to pull from the plane.Lead attendant told me the equivilent of ooops and showed me to a first class seat, plane heading from Ohare to SanFran. I'm pitching as quiet of a fit as I can in a steel tube to no avail. Sat down beyond angry I was going to fly to Cali and back and the attendant bells ping'd. Glares at me. I guess the Gate Agent told my supervisor he was going to be short staffed the rest of the night and thought it was funny I was going to Cali. :devilish: mind you no clothes, purse money. Only my Airline ID and the uniform on my back.
I found out just how much pull my supervisor had. Attendant glares at me, the jetway comes back to the plane and she said get off quickly. I resisted the need to slap the poop out of the gate agent who knew I was still on that aircraft. Threw the grapevine I heard he had a few unscheduled 'time off' for pulling that jetway. Betting the Attendants who also knew I was freak'n standing there putting a woman on the plane didn't hear the last of it either.

So many reasons why I went from transportation of humans to maritime cargo. :in pain:
Glad I never had to deal with transporting humans on commercial aircraft:joyfull:

But then where are the Unicorns?

A long time ago when the earth was green,
and there was more kinds of animals than you've ever seen,
They'd run around free while the earth was being born,
But the loveliest of them all was the Unicorn.

There were green alligators and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born,
The loveliest of all was the Unicorn.

Now God seen some sinning and it gave Him pain,
And He says "Stand back, I'm going to make it rain."
He says "Hey brother Noah, I'll tell you what to do,
Build me a floating zoo. And take some of them...

Green alligators and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born,
Don't you forget My Unicorn."

And he called out as they went through, "Hey Lord, I got your..."

Old Noah was there to answer the call,
He finished up making the ark just as the rain started fallin.
He marched in the animals two by two,
And he called out as they went through, "Hey Lord, I got your..."

Green alligators and long necked geese,
Some humpy-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but Lord I'm so forlorn,
I just can't see no Unicorn."

Then Noah looked out through the driving rain,
Them Unicorns were hiding, playing silly games.
Kicking and splashing while the rain was pouring,
Oh them silly Unicorns.

There were green alligators and long necked geese,
Some humpy-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Noah cried "Close the door, cause the rain is pouring,
And we just can't wait for no Unicorn."

The ark started movin, it drifted with the tide.
Them Unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried,
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away,
And that's why you'll never seen a Unicorn... to this very day.

You'll see green alligators and long necked geese,
Some humpy-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born,
You're never gonna see no Unicorn.

OMG I haven't heard that one in forever. Fixed that thnx:joyfull:

I was going to get one of those but at the time the largest I could find was a 4 quart. We wound up with a 7 power cooker quart from Sam's. I wish I could find an affordable 12 quart one

Cuisinart has a 6 quart. Long story short--I bought it for my in-laws for a Christmas present, but then changed my mind, as I wasn't sure if they wanted a fairly large appliance. Gave them something else instead. Meanwhile, I decided to keep the Cuisinart and there's a learning curve to it, but I think I'll like it more once I use it again.

I guess it depends on the person. I dont trust hotels direct websites honestly.. they always try to push rackprice to you.
I'm more confortable looking at conglomerates and big concentrators, they usually have the most varied offers because they buy in masse.

What you may not realize is that hotels often have block holds on rooms. If the group (say, a convention group) comes up short and doesn't need all the rooms, those may be released to the public at greatly reduced rates and/or with other perks like free breakfast (for example).

I worked on de-Christmasing our house it is about 60% done. Hubs doesn't want the main tree down until tomorrow and some other random things are up. We have two trees on the porch, those will remain up for awhile, not until it is in the high 30's or 40's but looks like we will be in the negatives to single digits through next week. No way am I taking that stuff down outside now! I might unplug it tomorrow though.

This makes me sad. I hate taking down any Christmas references--whether a tree, a tabletop decoration, etc. Today I really have to take down the tree, though. Back to work tomorrow, :( and I need to get the place back in order. (At least it's just a 4 day week . . . )
