It's the thought that counts, Figgy. Sorry you can't make it up here, as is hubs and my sister. Now, they're stuck with my cooking!

Well, let's see--I have the ham. That's as far as it's gone. :hilarious:

We're getting an icy mix through midday tomorrow, so I'll probably hit the grocery store on Sunday and get a few veggies (except for the squash casserole my sister is bringing), and some rolls and a pie from the store bakery. If I had thought more about this, I could have also ordered a precooked entire meal (with dessert) from the supermarket, but it's too late to place an order now.) If the meal turns out to be a disaster, we can always call out for Domino's pizza! :p
Domino's is open on Christmas? o_O

Some of you may remember that we have plans to see Savannah 12/ 26 and arrive at Atlanta on the afternoon of 12/27 and leave Atlanta the morning of 12/29
Here's the thing i just discovered. On 12/29 when I am scheduled to drive us (family of 3)from Atlanta all the way back to Brick NJ.... the current forecast calls for 70% chance of snow in Virginia and 60% chance of snow in Baltimore and NJ. Current prediction is for 3 to 5 inches. The following day Brick NJ's forecast is for snow showers w/ gradual clearing.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO???

We could leave a day earlier but we've never been to Atlanta and since I've only arranged for a 1/2 day on Wed. and a full day on Thurs....if we leave Thurs. to beat the snow it will be really disappointing.
If we stay an extra day and come back to NJ on Sat. instead of Fri. I wonder how the roads and traffic will be if the forecast was for snow all day Fri. and snow showers Sat. morning transitioning to clearing skies?
Hmm.....decisions , decisions

I purchase "special" cards ($3.00 and up) for my immediate family... Daughters/Son in laws, grandkids and my sister. Everyone else, which only adds up to about 12 get good old boxed cards. Still cost me about $35.00 just for that stuff. As I was writing this I looked on the top of my computer desk and there are a bundle of cards that I have received over the last five year all neatly bundled with rubber bands. Don't ask me why I still have them, I do not have a clue, just can't bring myself to throw them out.

Just plan for the possibility of having to stop someplace in between Atlanta and NJ. Many times those forecasts are incorrect and also quite general in scope. The area you are driving in may have no snow at all. The further south you go the less reliable those snow forecasts are. Just go until you don't feel comfortable driving anymore. If you get to that find a place to stay and just chill.

The only real concern I would have is if you are leaving from Atlanta and decide to go on I-81 through Pennsylvania that is all mountains, if your cutting across to hit I-95 you stand a better chance of not having problems, and on the plus side also there are a lot more accommodations in the event you need them. On the down side 95 has a lot more traffic.

I think I'm going to book a hotel in Fredericksburg VA for Fri. night.
So Fri. morning leave Atlanta and travel 590 miles to Fredericksburg VA
Sat. morning leave Fredericksburg VA and travel the remaining 253 miles to Brick NJ

I can just put that in place and then cancel it if the weather forecast changes
Opinions anyone?

No
We spent the night with my aunt. She has a very small apartment, so I slept in the livingroom. She normally keeps the cat's litterbox in there, but had moved the litterbox out to the porch and said to just put the cat out for the night; she made her a nice warm bed outside andnthe porch is enclosed

Well, guess who did not have the heart to put the cat outside, especially after said cat crawled into bed with me and started purring and fell asleep with her head on my hand.

Of course, I woke up at 5 am, and it was quite a conundrum. The cat is asleep, but I am freezing because the door is open. What do I do?

The answer obviously being freeze.

Definitely going left to right diagonally from Atlanta to NJ....connecting to I-95 and avoiding PA completely.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Confession time. No card sending for us this year. James did find a beautiful one for his bff and a nice box set at the dollar store for his buddies. I'll have my dh print out some for our mom's. The new printer or computer (dh's Christmas gift shhhh) came with a nice program:joyfull:
Good morning, Figgy! I was feeling guilty about still not having cards done, and then I double checked. I bought New Year cards! So, I will get to work on this when I get back.
