Confession time. No card sending for us this year. James did find a beautiful one for his bff and a nice box set at the dollar store for his buddies. I'll have my dh print out some for our mom's. The new printer or computer (dh's Christmas gift shhhh) came with a nice program:joyfull:

It's the thought that counts, Figgy. Sorry you can't make it up here, as is hubs and my sister. Now, they're stuck with my cooking!

Well, let's see--I have the ham. That's as far as it's gone. :hilarious:

We're getting an icy mix through midday tomorrow, so I'll probably hit the grocery store on Sunday and get a few veggies (except for the squash casserole my sister is bringing), and some rolls and a pie from the store bakery. If I had thought more about this, I could have also ordered a precooked entire meal (with dessert) from the supermarket, but it's too late to place an order now.) If the meal turns out to be a disaster, we can always call out for Domino's pizza! :p
Good luck

That was our issue this year. 3am seemed to be the only time to do it safely. :banghead:
Yep...last year, we waited until the kids went to bed, but we were wrapping when DD came downstairs because she heard noises and couldn't sleep and wondered what we were doing. Now that the kids are older, they are up a bit later and it's harder to find the time. It's compounded this year by the fact that I now mostly work evenings and DD just got out of school 10 minutes ago for break....so since I was still getting up every morning to make lunches and such, I couldn't stay up after working until 11 to wrap presents. And tonight I have dress rehearsal for our concert tomorrow night...so I can't do it tonight, or tomorrow night because I won't be home. Running out of time and I can't leave it to my husband because he doesn't even know what all I've gotten for the kids or where it's all hidden.

We send out photo cards, I used to write a not with them but now I just put them in the envelope and send them out. When we receive photo or any Christmas cards we tape them to the door in the living room that leads upstairs and after Christmas I do throw them away. I feel bad but I did spend time looking at them from my couch.
I throw them out too.

I feel for you. We wrapped in the basement, so that is at least 2 floors away. Still am waiting for an item that is supposed to arrive today with the mail lady, and I am hoping she doesn't ring the doorbell, because I won't be home but the dd who is sick will be.

Heck you could just move the family HOME and visit the Netherlands. :)
Nah...it would be too hard on my in-laws to not see their grandkids. Besides, there are certain motivating factors for remaining in the Netherlands for at LEAST the next 3 years. Not that I'll have won the lottery by then, but you never know. But the schools are also better here, and DD has 6 more years of school after this, and DS doesn't do well with change. We'll stay put here and take long Disney trips. Now that my dad is gone, there's not as much incentive for me to go "home".

at least here they shut the roads down before it gets that bad.
The one I remember was the blizzard of '84. I think I was in 1st grade...I remember mom coming and picking us up from school and the wind was blowing so hard I couldn't breathe because it just rushed straight down your throat. We were stuck inside for 3 days....roads were closed for a few days and people had shoveling parties to get people out of their homes when the wind had blown the snow up past the door. I know we couldn't see our car...it was completely under the snow. This is the only picture I can find on the internet...it's from the local newspaper. https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.tow...1e3-bf92-0017a43b2370/535c6f095a5a4.image.jpg

I have a whole box of really pretty ones my DD and I made, but I just don't have the money to send out cards to everyone....so there sits the box. I did use 3 of them for DS's teachers and therapist this year...DD didn't want to give any to her teachers. I'll probably send a late one to my friend in Idaho who isn't on FB and she LOVES to get real mail, and always sends me one, so I make the effort for her. It will be late, but she'll appreciate it anyway.

Can you put a sign on the doorbell that says it's broken? Or leave a note for the mail person to please not ring/knock because the sick child might be sleeping and to just leave it on the steps or something?

We budget around $100 for holiday cards each year. Between our families, friends, and work people, we send out 100 cards. The stamps always seem to be the most expensive part.We don't send out treats to everyone anymore because shipping is just too expensive, so the cards are important for us to continue doing. I'm sure one of these days we'll be priced out of that, too.

We display all the cards as they come in, but when its time to take down the tree and decorations, all the cards sent to us go into the recycle.

That is amazing! The most snow we ever had here was I think 2 or 3 years ago. I am thinking 3. We got 3 feet of snow. The schools were closed for almost a week because the snow was piled so high from the shoveling that it would have been unsafe for kids to cross streets. That winter seemed to last forever.

I had a note up the last 2 days for UPS. I took it down because all the packages were delivered. This package may fit in our mailbox because it is something small. This new mail lady we have usually drops packages on the front porch and doesn't ring the bell unlike our old mailman who retired. If dd is not in the dining room than she won't see her. Hoping that it just fits in the box by the street. It is just 2 small bottles of nail polish. For whatever reason she went for mostly cosmetic stuff this year, like lotions, polishes and things like that.
