I had to hunt one of those down for days just to try it. One day going through all of the recipes left from my mom, I found what must have been the original recipe for it. I want to say Borden put it out. I probably couldn't find it again. Here's to cousin Finn!

I thought this is where the Chef got his inspiration from too. Just adjust the gunk on the top and it is 'Disney Magical Cookie Bar'

Magic Cookie Bars from EAGLE BRAND®

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND® Sweetened Condensed Milk
    Eagle Brand® Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate morsels
  • 1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • Add all ingredients to listDirections

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F (325 degrees for glass dish). Coat 13x9-inch baking pan with no-stick cooking spray.
  2. Combine graham cracker crumbs and butter. Press into bottom of prepared pan. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crumb mixture. Layer evenly with chocolate chips, coconut and nuts. Press down firmly with a fork.
  3. Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Cut into bars or diamonds. Store covered at room temperature.
  4. Footnotes

This is the recipe I've always used down through the years. It's quick and easy--and delicious!!! :hungry:

13 years ago today, my now husband, took me to the ballet to see the Nutcracker and upon returning home I saw a vase of roses and a card on my counter. I read the card and it said, "will you marry me". :inlove: Isn't he lucky I said yes?!:joyfull: Later I asked him why he didn't get down on one knee and he told me it is because I read the card too fast!:happy:

And I woke up at 2:30 this morning--for absolutely no reason. Thank goodness that doesn't happen often. I usually sleep in until 4 or 4:30. I was robbed of a few hours of my beauty sleep last night. (Then again, even when I sleep the full night, beauty doesn't automatically follow that . .. :p )

Sad about the sleep. Sure Jack enjoyed the extra morning magical hours with ya though.

Haven't stayed there in years, but I did really like it, and the rates were very good. The reason I stopped going there was due to the private bus that picked up at all the hotels on Hotel Blvd. (slow . . .), and it didn't run that often to and from the parks. At the time, it dropped people off in the middle of a park's parking lot, which wasn't bad, but with no cover from the sun in hotter months, I didn't want to wait long for a return bus.

And back when it was just Downtown Disney, I'd sometimes get a bus to there (from one of the parks) in the late afternoon to return to the hotel (I'd walk from the stop across the street to Hotel Blvd.), but I think they instituted a new system some years back where they stopped those direct routes to DD from the parks. Guess everything has probably changed now, though.

In the past 15 years or so, I've preferred on-site hotels, as I like to take a break in the middle of the day and the WDW transportation is usually fine for me. Haven't rented a car down there in many years and I don't ever plan to again, either. The traffic, etc., is just as bad as any major city--no thanks.

That particular Hotel Blvd resort works as does the Palace as it is right across the bridge to Disney Springs. Just take the direct (newish) bus from the Parks to Springs crossed the bridge. Going to the parks cross bridge and get on any bus at Springs that is closest to park you are heading.

The Blvd. buses run every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour. Motor Coaches.

We will be on the Mag Mile. Lights at the Zoo (theory) and Pier for fireworks.
Not likely to be out in -4. Revising the days activities. Maybe instead of Zoo it could be Coco in a cozy theater with wine service. We shall see. The zoo is on Lake Michigan. It is so pretty at night but I wouldn't likely enjoy it while being a Human Popsicle.

I'm hoping the projected temps for over a week from now rise a bit if not, Plan B.

I still need to wrap everything for ours! I bought everything months ago, but I don't have anything wrapped except the Harry Potter books because they wrapped them for us in the store.
I hope you have a great celebration!

Thanks so much. We have always done the majority of our holiday celebrating on Christmas Eve, and this year, I keep getting the day mixed up in my head. It's Sunday, and not Saturday like I keep thinking. Cheyenne and I had a great shopping trip today, and I came home with a few more things to wrap. Target had all the hats, and gloves on sale, and I bought myself some much needed warm hats and gloves. The weather has been beautiful, and I hope that pattern stays around for awhile.

About 15 years ago I stopped sending Christmas Cards. Between my business being on overload at the holidays and all the merriment of the month plus shopping, wrapping and cooking....I let Cards go. Now a smaller demographic I send Happy New Year cards too.

Curious though. What do you folks do with all those family photo Christmas Cards? Yeah I like seeing most but really don't want to keep them...but the guilt of throwing pictures in the trash...so what do you do with those?

We send out photo cards, I used to write a not with them but now I just put them in the envelope and send them out. When we receive photo or any Christmas cards we tape them to the door in the living room that leads upstairs and after Christmas I do throw them away. I feel bad but I did spend time looking at them from my couch.

I have used cake mix as a substitute for the graham cracker crust it works pretty well.

Sounds like a nice time, the zoo and the movie with wine. Not so much the -4, although we will be getting similar temps here too.

Properly bought fish should have nothing on it, have a slight ocean scent not a fishy smell, be firm, have bright clear eyes and properly wrapped by a monger and cooked within 24 hours.

I had absolutely lovely peppered, light lemon trout today. Slurp :hungry:

Highly doubt it was caught within 24 hours but firm and beautifully prepared.

Totally agree here, but believe me the lack of financial skills goes across all generations. I tell my kids that one of the most important classes they can take is an economics class in college. I think economics should be a mandatory class in order to graduate. It wasn't when I went to school. I have ds taking a econ 101 class (free online from Hillsdale college), so he can get a head start. I put the importance of business knowledge up there with math and science.
By the way dh needed to block out vacation dates at work for September so wanted to know when we were going to HHI. Usually we go the week before Labor Day. The room rate is almost half less after Labor Day then before. Anyway, all the 2 bdrm villas were booked.:eek: The week of Labor Day was open though, so I thought I should book before I lost that.

We went down the day after Labor Day for our long trip. (Hurricane Irma trip)
When I took my kids out of school for our long vacations back then this is why.
But now the rates while better are not what they were before the pilgrimage to Food and Wine coupled with Free Dining. We took the room discount over free dining and bought the dining package and came out ahead and better than our bounce back would have been at POR and we stayed at the Wilderness.

We booked that trip way out using a travel agent which costs nothing to us and they watched for the 'bells' in the wee hours of the morning for the release of the discounts when the time came and then adjusted the room rates for us with the discounts they nabbed. We have in the past not been able to book our 1st choice of rooms but the travel agents (Disney Approved ones) can stalk and called back when a room we wanted popped.

Well, getting up and going to work. We have a Thank you lunch off site for our team. After that, I'm coming home, working from home for the rest of the day, and then my grandma and I are heading to the airport around 4 pm today to fly south to Charleston. We'll get there, get the rental car, and drive to my aunt's house to stay overnight. Then, tomorrow, we'll drive down to Hilton Head. I'll probably fall into bed tomorrow night.
Godspeed. Enjoy.
